Often friendly messages are the best way to sort things out. But once it's discussed in a group (e. g. mailing list) make it clear to others that you're messaging the user, this stops everyone else bombarding their inbox. The change to the A90 around Aberdeen [1] is also bogus. This project has just got the go-ahead recently, and I don't know if work has even started on the ground. Not a local though, so not sure of actual progress. This one should probably be reverted as well, and I would support a block until this user responds to messages on the site. I agree with your points, especially since there's more and more talk about introuding OSM into school environments, and not just for the UK region but also being part of the curriculum in other parts of Europe. The only problem I see with that is that it seems to be against the open part of OpenStreetMap. Anyone can edit Wikipedia, and eventually any errors will be detected. As long as each of us takes care of their area, maybe even instate some moderators to look over certain areas(such as highways) I don't see how major errors can slip unnoticed. It might be worth considering a 'play' version of the data base, where beginners, schools and others could try things out without damaging the main map. This would be refreshed every so often, and changes would disappear. Hi Donald I had a similar problem with a user adding random buildings to places that don't exist, as well as really badly mapped areas with intersecting/crossing buildings and incorrectly tagged areas. the user in question never got back to me. It seems to me like he was using OSM as a sandbox, to play around. I've often thought that maybe schools are using it for student projects, or something similar. I'm not sure how to deal with this, apart from reverting the changes. Seems to me like some sort of moderation is needed on OSM, or at least a grading system. i.e. Once a user has done enough contributions which have been approved, you no longer need approval. In practice, something like this would be very hard to implement.
