Interesting.
My initial problem is the multi story car park in Evesham. Shops are on
level 6 along with the mobility centre, but the only road in is on level
one and the service access below the shops is also at that level. trying
to show delivery drivers the correct level to use, and route disabled
visitors to the mobility centre. But just showing the layers would be a
start :)

OSM does not manage multi-level data very well currently. I've got the
plans for a few local schools (and hospitals) but no real way to map
each floor of the complex :(

That is the pattern I switched to.
Roberts tool just lists the grounds element as a non-existant school
object but I think that is OK.

This is the bit I still need to tidy up ...
South Worcestershire College is on two sites and currently being listed
twice.
But http://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5902498 is only part of the
answer for Heart of Worcestershire College since - for example - the
various buildings in Worcester are not easily identified as part of the
college. Should I complicate the relation more, or simply tag each
building as 'Worcester Campus, Heart of Worcester College'. PERSONALLY I
would prefer to have a 'place' node for each campus, add all the
elements in a relation to that, and simply have a relation 'node' of all
the campuses.
Warwickshire College Group needs the same treatment since currently my
'Pershore College' entry is being matched to the main campus on the 'CV'
page of progress :)

I've not had that problem either yet ...

The short answer is 'No' ... these are outside the 'education system'
but are still colleges. Have the same problem with
http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/118736391 which IS a college but
obviously not a school system one.
( Must update the campus there .. I see someone extended the housing
estate to the left which I started some time back, but that area of the
college has been sold for housing )

Hi Ed,

You do get schools sharing buildings; eg Sandhurst School in Catford where
the Infant School is on the ground floor and the Junior School is (mostly)
on the first floor, they share the same entrance, but have separate
receptions on their own floors. There are also other schools where the
sharing of the building is less distinct

I am not sure what the best way to map this would be

Re: [Talk-GB] This evening: Night school - Status report

2016-03-02 Thread Ed Loach
Great news.

Is it possible we can add something to the wiki page about an agreed way to tag
multiple schools on a single site, or schools with multiple sites. I think
earlier discussions here suggested:

For a site with multiple schools (grounds shared, separate buildings) tag the
grounds as amenity=school, and the name, edubase ref and address details for
each school on the relevant building.

e.g. http://osm.org/go/0EHYuEeGJ--?m=

http://osm.org/go/0EHS4rvGk--?m=

For a school with multiple sites, use a site relation, with each site being
tagged amenity=school with the relevant address on each, and the edubase ref on
the main site. I’m less sure about this one and have no examples.

I also don’t have an example for multiple schools in a single building. If they
were separate entrances I’d probably put the differing details on the entrance
nodes, but as I’ve not encountered this I’m not sure whether it happens
anywhere. Nor if they share an entrance how that would be tagged.

Robert’s excellent progress tracking tool also shows adult education centres
where I have been unable to find an edubase reference, e.g.

http://www.openstreetmap.org/way/203713626

Should they have edubase references? If so how would I find them?

We did it!

Today we set the record for the highest number of edits to amenity=school
features in the UK. Between us we edited 405 schools beating our previous high
from 18th January.

Looking at the detail we created 202 new school polygons (a 33% increase on our
previous daily best) and modified 191 ways. The other edits (12) were to nodes.

We are now at 75.4% of all UK schools mapped as ways (according to Robert W's
fantastic progress tool). This is up from just 62.8% when we started this task
at the start of January. All but 10 postcode areas are above 50% complete. When
we started there was 30 below 50% (8 below 40%). At the top end we have 24
postcode areas 95+ percent complete. Compared to zero when we started!

A total of 38 people edited during the day - again, another record! And the
edits of those who used the #OSMschools comment in their changesets can been
seen at
http://resultmaps.neis-one.org/osm-changesets?comment=OSMschool#5/55.838/-1.604

Thanks for the amazing effort today. I hope the MapRoulette task is proving
popular and will encourage more edits in the least loved parts of the UK OSM
map.

Best,

Rob

Up to 320 edits on schools today :-) Which is getting close to the daily
record of 397 for the quarterly project (way back in January).

We're also just 3 edits away from a "create" record - Harry's tool measures
creations and modifications.

Great mapping effort this evening. Thanks for all the help.

FYI, I've just updated my comparison tool at

We now have matches to 75% of the schools in the official data.
(Though of course not all of these will be correct.)

Keep up the good work everyone,

I'm following the maproulette tasks which means lots of Wales. It's easy to
get sidetracked as the data is often poor here!

Maybe a focus for a future quarter...
