 Anyway - looks like a protgresql unix domain socket issue. osm2pgsql is
 failing with the following:

 osm2pgsql SVN version 0.90.1-dev (64 bit id space)

 Using built-in tag processing pipeline
 Using projection SRS 900913 (Spherical Mercator)
 Osm2pgsql failed due to ERROR: Connection to database failed: could not
 connect to server: No such file or directory
 Is the server running locally and accepting
 connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/[REDACTED
 ]"?

 It's mostly likely to be a permissions issue or something related to a
 package upgrade in the past. Will post further updates here unless I hear
 otherwise.

I believe overpass-turbo.openstreetmap.ie should be fresh again now. I'm
not familiar enough with the stack yet to be confident that everything is
good but by simple test of running a query and looking at  suggests the issue is gone.

indicate the last thing was a fast shutdown which suggests human action).
I've restarted it and will monitor for updates in the services that depend
on it (e.g. osm2pgsql, nominatim, etc)

If you look at the Data tab for an overpass request it will show

I've have a look when I get time but tbh I dont have much time anymore to
feed the hamsters.

Any unix sysadmins want to volunteer to help maintaining the OSM IE
infrastructure?
