Hi,
All listers are actually mappers in India. Nice that this thread is bringing to 
fore a very pertinent point.

I have been mapping since four decades, and mostly for the central govt (GSI).
Mapping never remained the same after Google made it's digital globes and at 
the beginning of 21 century
made mapping popular.

For us OSM users we always have mapathons, declared or undeclared. 'Crowd 
sourcing' ,'Dos and Donts', of mapping will help us for sure.
But we have to do a lot of Garbage (News Data) mining for it.

My thoughts are not very strong but, I think as long as we leave the vital 
points and defense installations out of the map, we won't grab much attention.
