That should work. I have also noticed that most of the AND villages are
actually towns now. Look around for the closest big settlement and that
should be it.

I do not know the exact location of those villages nor the accuracy of AND
data. Neither can I easily verify the location of those villages. Hence I
propose the following workaround :

1. Create a new node very close to the original village node, so that the
new node is not connected to any way.
2. Copy all tags from the original node to the new node.
3. Delete all tags from the original node.

Will that be fine?

Yes, I think there is a guideline somewhere that place nodes should not be
connected to anything else. But it would be wise to check also that the
place is correctly placed and named. I'm sure I've seen a few that were put
out in the countryside miles from anywhere.

[Talk-in] Moving place=village tags in Odisha

2013-08-31 Thread Aditya Nag
A large number of place tags in Odisha are imported from AND. Most of these
tags are on nodes which are part of a way. The OSM wiki recommends to place
a node at the center of a settlement and tag it appropriately. Can I remove
such "erroneous" nodes from the middle of the way and move them to the
settlement center?

Most of these nodes are very close to the actual settlements. Hence, there
is minimal confusion about where to place those nodes.

Aditya.
