[Talk-it] Studio sul processo di tagging in OpenStreetMap
Cari mappatori, mi chiamo Andrea Ballatore e sono un ricercatore di University College Dublin (http://www.csi.ucd.ie/users/andrea-ballatore). Sto facendo ricerca su OpenStreetMap, progetto che attira sempre più attenzione nel mio settore accademico (geographic information science). In particolare, sto cercando di capire come i mappatori decidono i tag da utilizzare per descrivere gli oggetti geografici nella mappa. Vorrei chiedervi il vostro parere sui seguenti punti: * Com’è strutturata la comunità italiana di OpenStreetMap? * Come vengono decisi i tag da utilizzare nella mappa? * Come viene utilizzata la Wiki di OpenStreetMap? * Come vengono utilizzate le mailing list di OpenStreetMap? * Le definizioni di termini nella wiki riflette quello che c’è nella mappa, oppure ci sono casi in cui mappatori non seguono la wiki e prendono decisioni autonome? * Come si risolvono le controversie, ad es. quando utenti vogliono usare tag diversi sugli stessi oggetti (ad es. “amenity=bar” vs “amenity=café”)? * La comunità italiana di OSM adotta tag inglesi, descritti qui: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/IT:Map_Features. Perché non vengono usati tag italiani? Ci sono state discussioni su questo tema? * Che problemi causano i tag inglesi applicati in un contesto italiano? * Ci sono tag utilizzati solo nella mappa italiana? * Che contatti ci sono tra la comunità italiana e quella di altri paesi? * Quali cose sono decise a livello locale (singoli utenti o piccoli gruppi di utenti) e quali a livello globale, ad es. dall’OpenStreetMap Foundation? Le vostre risposte mi aiuteranno a completare uno studio su questo aspetto di OpenStreetMap, che verrà pubblicato su una rivista accademica internazionale e reso poi gratuitamente disponibile alla comunità di OpenStreetMap. [OSM-talk] Survey on the OSM Wiki
(Apologies for cross-posting) Hi all, I am conducting academic research on how the OpenStreetMap vocabulary of tags and keys evolved. For this reason, I am analysing the OSM Wiki website (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Main_Page). It would be very helpful if you could answer some of these questions, based on your experience with OSM: * Have you defined/updated definitions of tags and keys in the Wiki? * Is the editing of the wiki mostly an individual, online activity or is there collaborative editing of groups of users? * What were the first keys/tags to be defined? * Were there specific milestones/events/meetings/parties that marked the evolution of the keys/tags? * What were the “difficult” keys and tags that required a lot of discussion? And the “easy” ones? * Do you have any examples of conflicts/disagreements/edit wars in the Wiki? * Were there mistakes in the tag/key definition process? * How do you solve the conflicts in the vocabulary? * What lessons did you learn from the development of the Wiki? I'm working on the tagging process, trying to understand how it works on the wiki and how people reach consensus on difficult issues. The OSM community will see the results in academic articles. * Your questions are quite vague, loosely-worded and open-ended. How will this help your research? This is an exploratory phase, where I'm trying to collect opinions about the tagging process. It's not intended to provide quantitative results. * Are you aware of the difference between what gets written in the wiki versus what tags actually get used? This is one of the points on which I'm sure you know a lot about :-) Sorry to be so harsh, but if you expect the OSM community to help you, you need to explain better why it's in their interests to do so.
