[talk-ph] San Juan, Batangas mapping

2011-01-17 Thread eric pareja
I'll be going to San Juan, Batangas on Wednesday, Jan. 19 and am
wondering what GPS tracking software for the Nokia N97 would you guys
recommend. I have been using SportsTracker, but it doesn't provide
capability to add waypoints and POIs.

There are signs along NLEX southbound that indicate that the Mindanao

but no verified anecdotes.

Re: [talk-ph] advise on tagging barangay health centers

2010-03-15 Thread eric pareja
hi ian, maning,

tagging health centers as public building or doctor's clinic would probably
be correct in keeping with generic tagging, but it would be more useful if
they are tagged specifically as "health centers". i've been convincing my
boss at the national telehealth center, UP Manila, to use
openstreetmap.organd this would be a good use case for us.

ian, if both health centers and police outposts are tagged as public
buildings, how do we differentiate them? there's value in distinguishing the
health centers as such, and we'd like to be able to work with that data to
help direct patients to the nearest one.

Re: [talk-ph] City in well city names

2010-02-24 Thread eric pareja
We should follow the Philippine Standard Geographic Codes (PSGC) which
is available at http://www.nscb.gov.ph/ACTIVESTATS/PSGC/default.asp

The official city names are listed there in the quick table. So the
official name will either be "City of " or " City" as
indicated in the table there.
For example, "Taguig City" is the official name, not "City of Taguig".
On the other hand, "City of Makati" is the official name, not "Makati
City".

It will be the same for Barangays as well as for other geographic units.

From what I know about sahana, it uses googlemaps api... here's a post

Maybe later on, someone who knows code can work on integrating
openstreetmap into sahana. It might be an interesting subproject.

Volunteers for Sahana Project (IT Professionals or Not), Stand Up, Rise UP!

With the help of the internet and media, we were able to pull
ourselves and carry on our modern day Bayanihan.

Today, IBM and KahelOS Team, met with NDCC. With that said, NDCC and
its coordinating agencies shall be adopting the system and will
require our help to make this happen.

Urgently, we need to jumpstart and organize ourselves. Then, drill
down our activities and planned work to ensue and pursue the initial
goals of the project.

For the new volunteers, the Sahana Project is a web-based Disaster
Management System that addresses the common coordination problems
during a disaster from finding missing people, managing aids and
reliefs, managing volunteers and tracking camps effectively between
Government groups, the civil society (NGOs), concerned/private
individuals and the victims themselves.

You, as a Volunteer, can greatly contribute in making this tool an
effective system.

First, please complete the form at this link.

For any other info, you can email sah...@kahelos.org or join the forum

Re: [talk-ph] another road renamed, another border duspute

2008-12-16 Thread eric pareja
I would retain the old name as name and add a new_name field to the
road/street. Or perhaps we can use alt_name.

We have a similar issue here in Taguig, where there is a dispute
regarding the renaming of a National Road, Bayani Road, in the Fort
Bonifacio area, to Marichu R. Tinga Avenue. On Bayani Road itself,
there are street signs that show the "new" name.
