Hi Andre,

there's a way to turn your laptop wifi card into a wifi access point.
Been doing this at home for my iPhone and netbook to share internet
access with my laptop with Sun mobile broadband.

You merely configure an access point for your wifi (like an ad hoc
PC-to-PC connection) and enable ICS (internet connection sharing) for
your broadband modem.

You need to manually configure each laptop to connect particularly the
IP addresses

i want to join you guys there in marikina for i've grown quite
familiar with the place, particularly the San Roque area, but i have
an important family event that day :(

IMO depending on how many people and the time of the day starbucks is 
not a good idea. Always too noisy, too crowded unless its 6am :)

Foodcourt sounds good since its open though may be noisy also though 
more space?

does anyone have a smart wireless router shareit or a sun one? I can 
hookup my PLDT DSL sim to it for extra wifi

or maybe there's a way to turn my laptop into a router?

Additional venue updates.

1. SM City Marikina will be having its 3-day sale (March 19-21).  They
don't approve any event/concert/etc during a "sale" (makes sense).  We
can of course grab any cafe to do the edits.  Several options are:
 - starbucks ground floor main mall entrance - I saw several customers
with laptop plugged-in to the cafe's power outlets.  Maybe too noisy
during the sale
 - figaro - second floor, smaller space, less noise
 - foodcourt - third floor, bigger space, noisy, BEER

2.  I tested the wifi (starbucks area), seems to be OK.  But super
editing with potlatch may be difficult.  Offline editing better (josm,
merkaartor).

mapping using JOSM or potchlatch?

We need to decide to which page it will direct. The OSM Wiki is flexible but
has too many links on the page (related to the wiki infrastructure).
Facebook is simpler, but we cannot cram stuff in there (which means that we
need to link to another page).

#1 its a LOT shorter :)
#2 its probably the most popular redirector
#3 we can use that URL only for posters and can track through bit.ly how

Yes it looks better.  I plan to print it as an A4 size b/w laserjet
printouts.  Therefore, a propose to make it look better on that
medium.  Sorry I can't print in colored (unless someone would do
this).

I plan to post it on the barangay community bulletin boards around the city.

If we can have the poster finalized within the week so I can start
biking around the city by weekend.

I agree with the small details on the posters.
Also agree with Ronny on the URLs, it isnt a webpage. We could use OSMPH 
domain but even that is long, how bout something like 
bit.ly/MarikinaMappingParty or something very easy to remember. and I 
suggest 1 link only. Maybe to the wiki page or the Facebook event page, 
whichever works better for newbies. Also the link should be much bigger. 
Looking at the poster tells me nothing about how do i join or where to 
go. There needs to be a large Call to Action, like To Join Visit 
http://bit.ly/OSMPHMarikina
etc

all the other details as Eugene said work better in a brochure. The 
brain can only process so much information when passing by a poster. 
Also I suggest putting the main information on the black background 
since that stands out more.

Will these be placed around the places in Marikina

But we need to do something with those URLs... I doubt many people will 
stand in front of the poster writing them down. Something like 
www.openstreetmap.org.ph/marikina would be better, then we can link to 
other things like those hideous facebook urls from there.

Hi,

I updated the Marikina Mapping Event Page for the proposed cake
slices, let me know if the chunks are manageable especially for
newbies.

My estimate is the data collection would take around maximum of two
hours.  I suggest we allot more time for editing and socials :)
