Hi, We are now in full swing of preps for the upcoming Cavite Mapping Party. General details: This event will focus mapping the road network of central and southern towns of Cavite. The objective is to connect all town centers and add priority POIs covered by the route. This will be a car-centric mapping. Each team will have an assigned route from Alabang to Tagaytay. Each team should have at least 3 members with the pre-defined tasks. * Date - 2010-09-11 * Morning meetup - Jollibee in Molito Commercial Complex - http://osm.org/go/4zhCEDo5q--?m * Afternoon meetup - somewhere in Tagaytay At the moment, we need everyone's help in coordinating the event please visit the announcement and planning page: - http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cavite_Road_Network_Mapping_Party - http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cavite_Road_Network_Mapping_Party/Planning Priority in the to do lists are the following: - Creating letters for sponsorships, LGU partnership and press materials - Lead contacts for sponsorships - Layout of materials (banners, mapping lists, etc.) - Organizing the wiki planning page -- cheers, maning -- "Freedom is still the most radical idea of all" -N.Branden wiki: http://esambale.wikispaces.com/ blog: http://epsg4253.wordpress.com/ -- ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

Let me know what you need. Mapsource and OSM-PH maps are useful for planning some the exiting routes. I volunteer to be the "map" coordinator. (Unless there are other people who have more skill in this area; paging the GIS professionals!) The job is to be in charge of planning the routes. For this we would need maps of Cavite in order to do research and take an inventory of the main/secondary roads in Cavite. Here are the maps that I know that we can use: 1. EZ Map Cavite (PhP99) 2. Accu-map Cavite (PhP149) 3. NAMRIA topo maps 4. National Bookstore Philippine Road Atlas (the book) Any others? If any of you have any of these, can we borrow it? :-) On Thu, May 27, 2010 at 1:16 AM, Eugene Alvin Villar wrote: > I have created the OSM Wiki announcement page: > http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cavite_Road_Network_Mapping_Party > And the Planning page: > http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cavite_Road_Network_Mapping_Party/Planning > > Read the planning page and see if you can help with anything! :-) > > > On Tue, May 25, 2010 at 7:02 AM, maning sambale < > emmanuel.samb...@gmail.com> wrote: > >> We have 23 towns/cities to cover, most are routable already from >> Intramuros. Some orgs we can collaborate with: 1. local bike/cycling clubs (I'm sure there is one in Cavite) 2. car clubs (we have contacts with subaru and bmw) 3. local tourism offices On Fri, May 28, 2010 at 12:05 AM, Sorbi Ildefonso wrote: > @maning > Ok. @maning Ok. I agree that it would be good to coordinate with the Provincial government. Hopefully we could get some sponsors and volunteers. For meeting places in the morning in Alabang, how about - 2nd Floor Starbucks Madrigal or - Jollibee / Chowking Madrigal from there Daang Hari and SLEX are all nearby. Meeting place in Tagaytay we should pick some place with electrical sockets, Starbucks last year was plugless and too crowded :) Just my 2 centavos Andre ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

How bout navigation systems that use OSM, arent there a few? Perhaps they would like to support us in mapping the Cavite Area etc? We will probably be incorporated by this time also. How bout the guy from the Marikina Mapping party who did security for truck shipments, maybe there are interested in sponsoring? Its basically gas + food allowance.. A lot of people stand to benefit from mapping of unmapped OSM areas :) Regards, Andre ___ talk-ph mailing list talk-ph@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-ph

We have 23 towns/cities to cover, most are routable already from Intramuros. The link below is my town_routing spreadsheet. Don't follow the yournavigation link, the service is broken for more than two weeks already. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Au2WZQ1DwK_xdHdMT0tUUzh5a0lnUkljM1hJTENiRlE&hl=en Anyway, the challenged is to make each town route to every Cavite town. I suggest in order to plan it better, we need to properly locate the place=town node. After that, we can plan an assigned route to those attending to trace several towns. Other ideas: - We need to compute for gas consumption and hopefully a gas sponsor! - Is there a way to make it more fun? Like geocaching or some local history to look into while passing through each town? - Look for LGU contacts.
