Re: [talk-ph] OpenStreetMap Philippines Community Survey

2009-06-23 Thread Andre Marcelo-Tanner
 From Neil:

Just recently I've browsed my yahoo spam folder and found that your
mails along with those from 2 others of osm-ph were categorized as spam!

Yes, I agree with the formation of a "formal legal entity".

Hi,

I am contacting you in regards to OpenStreetMap in the Philippines. In
case you don't know me yet, my name is Andre Marcelo-Tanner, I am from
Enthropia Inc., a company in the Philippines which is helping OSM
Philippines grow. Since we found that you are an active contributor to
OSM in the Philippines, we wanted to get your opinion as part of the
community on a very important issue:

"The formation of a formal legal entity to represent OpenStreetMap in
the Philippines"

There is some starting discussion on the mailing list already at
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2009-May/000877.html

http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/talk-ph/2009-May/000883.html

We would greatly appreciate comments, even a simple yes or no from each
member of the community as we know this is a community project and thus
the community should always have a say in everything.

Please send your replies to talk-ph@openstreetmap.org so that the
discussion will be public and everyone can join in.

Thank you very much for your time,

Andre Marcelo-Tanner

Re: [talk-ph] OpenStreetMap Philippines Community Survey

2009-05-29 Thread Totor Osm

Hello again,

Since I'm writing now, I can as well give my opinion about the
"The formation of a formal legal entity to represent OpenStreetMap in
the Philippines" :

YES, its good to have a legal entity to give OpenStreetMap in the Philippines
some more visibility, structure and power...

BUT I had a bad experience with a group of friends, astronomy fans, that also
wanted to organize their nightly meetings. As time went by, the club became
bigger and bigger, and the members ended up spending more time in
administrative meetings and fights for power, than in watching the sky...

So, NO, I probably will not join...

Always remember, Keep it fun!

Totor

Re: [talk-ph] OpenStreetMap Philippines Community Survey

2009-05-25 Thread Ronny Ager-Wick - Develo Ltd.
Andre,
I support this move. It is important to have an organization so we can
release press releases, lobby government/NGOs, receive donations, etc. I
also assume that this organization will own the domain names we have
acquired.
I also volunteer to be a founding member, if you need more of those. I'm
in London
(http://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=51.514540&mlon=-0.181375&zoom=16),
but the Phil embassy is less than half an hour away, so I can get stuff
notarized (hopefully not too many papers as they charge £18 for a
signature and a stamp - per document! total ripoff if you ask me!).
I am considering to get more involved in the OSM community here too. I
happen to live only a short(ish) walk from the place where this whole
thing originated - University College London. I have to say London is
pretty road complete, but I have still managed to make some corrections
here.
And if any of you guys are venturing to this part of the world, don't
hesitate to let me know. It's "fairly" expensive here and some local
knowledge can save you a fortune :)
Ronny.
