You asked for an opinion. Node hoarders and node police mappers hurt the
project the most. Regardless if you are right or wrong, you were changing
data right in UAN51's area of interest. Try not to take the reversions
personally. Develop a detached sense from your work and what other's do
with it. The best way to handle it is just let it go. It was just a few
tags. The situation is escalating now that another mapper is jumping into
the question. Moreover, the best thing that you can do right now is make
at least one small changeset a day in your normal area of interest. That
will get you over the sting that you might feel right now. I am sure there
are plenty of items to add to the map in the metro Houston area.

I hope this helps,
Greg

2018-04-02 Thread Martijn van Exel
All,

The Georgia Motorway exit destination challenge is DONE.
I featured a similar challenge for Tennessee. Have at it :)

Re: [Talk-us] Edit war after MapRoulette motorway downgrading task

2018-04-02 Thread Andrew Matheny
Clay-

I'm leaving a comment on the first changeset (57754161) asking for an
explanation. Not only do I think you were right on what you were doing
(weird motorway upgrades in Texas have been a project for me lately), but I
agree that this wasn't the best way to handle this.

I've copied everyone else in the mailing list so we don't have multiple
people messaging at the same time.

Thanks!

[Talk-us] mechanical edit of 'address' tags in New York

2018-04-02 Thread Max Erickson
Another proposed mechanical edit, splitting 'address' tags in New
York. The tags are mostly from an import of libraries.

Uses the same code as the MA splitting:

https://github.com/maxerickson/massadd

There's a lot less of them, only 290:

https://gist.github.com/maxerickson/3e5d6cb9f5b5306b8d15901b8fb351b1

Only objects where the "address" tag is correctly split and there are
no conflicts with existing tags would be altered by the edit. If the
address tag has a po box in it, it is stored in the contact:pobox tag,
which I guess can be controversial.

[Talk-us] Edit war after MapRoulette motorway downgrading task

2018-04-02 Thread Clay Smalley
There is a MapRoulette task out for downgrading short sections of highways
that had been mistakenly upgraded to motorways. I had been contributing to
this task, and then today I got a foul message from a local contributor.
They subsequently went through my recent edits and undid them, calling them
"vandalism" in the changeset comments.

The changesets in question:
57754161
57754261
57754283
57754364
57754463
57754500
57754519
57754581
57754609
57754659
57754778
57754847

I'm... shocked. This is a really confrontational way of addressing things,
and it really doesn't make me feel good contributing here. I'm just gonna
take a break from editing for a bit. I don't want to add fuel to the fire
by reverting the edits.

What's the best way to address this?
