Hi A, On Mon, 2 Apr 2001, at 14:03:47 -0500 you wrote: Is this supposed to do away with all the pop-up progress windows for fetching and sending mail? For me the new connection centre doesn't work very well because I have set it to show up automatically (as not to waste space on the desktop) and I have a fast connection here, so all I really see is the window of the connection centre appear and then disappear again. And as I'm having several accounts which are all checked for new mail at the same time, I cannot read more than the communication log for more than one account (even that is hard sometimes). So what I'd really like to see is an option which will cause the connection centre window to remain open for some time even after the tasks are finished. That time could be user-definable (nice) or some default, I think 20 s would be enough to read the communication log. Does that sound reasonable to anyone (except myself :-) or I'm a just day-dreaming? -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.52 Beta/3 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

I don't know what will happen if TB! is running all the time, I just think that this is the way that I'd realize such a feature myself: Check at startup the current date and compare it with the birthdays in the AB. So I tried it with restarting TB! and that worked fine. But you will have to test it yourself over a longer period of time and see if they added a periodical check. I just changed my time to 04/03/2001, 23:59, with a birthday in my AB on 04/04/2001 and nothing happened when the clock reached 00:00. *shrug* Sorry, you will have to find it out yourself, my machine usually isn't on all the time. -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.52 Beta/3 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
New beta features
Connection Centre: I love it! I got very accustomed with the old method of Send/Receive boxes, but this little thing caught me immediately. With three or more accounts, it can be hard to arrange the boxes in a state where all of them are visible in a 640*480 screen, but now the whole problem is over. And the problem with the taskbar is over, too; that is, when receiving/sending mail from more accounts simultaneously, the taskbar fills with lots of small buttons for the windows; now there is only one window, one button. Marvellous. Birthday Reminder: This is a very nice feature indeed. Undoubtedly it has some relation with the address book, where I can set people's birthday if I need it. But it's a question that how does this very nice feature work. I set a birthday of a person to 2nd April, then 3rd April. Restarted Bat in both cases. Tried to write a mail to the person. Nothing special happened. I always ached for a birthday reminder (not kidding!), I consider it as a first step to integrate a PIM into The Bat, but -- how to use it? Perhaps it only checks the first time you start up your Bat at a day, so if TB! was already running and you enter a birthday and restart, I guess it is not checked again (again, that is only the way I'd do something like that to keep overhead low). -- Regards, Lars The Bat! 1.52 Beta/3 on Windows NT 5.0 Build 2195 Service Pack 1 |Lars Geiger | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]| | PGP Key: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?Subject=GetPublicKey | -- __ Archives : http://tbbeta.thebat.dutaint.com Moderators : mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Connection centre: a small bug
When pressing F2 or Alt-F2, the connection centre only appears but does not get the focus. It becames the rightmost window in the Alt-Tab task list. I believe the best way is the old way: when a periodical check starts, the send/receive boxes didn't get the focus, but when I started it, they did. So when I invoke a mail check/send intentionally, the connection centre should appear as the focused window. Otherwise I may believe nothing happened. Suggestions about connection centre
I believe it would be nice if the centre can display data about the mail being downloaded: sender, subject etc. This is especially useful when receiving large attachments: first, I may be curious what am I downloading, second, I may notice I don't need that attachment, so I can stop downloading and go to the mail dispatcher. It also would be nice to add a button to the centre to invoke the mail dispatcher. Pressing it would stop the downloading for the selected account, and invoke the mail dispatcher immediately. This can speed up mail handling, and time is money. Connection centre bug
Connection centre may freeze if I switch into it just after it finishes its work. Steps to reproduce the bug: Invoke connection centre (CC) any way which makes it not to be the active window. When it almost finishes working (you have to guess when that time is), switch back to the CC. If you catch the very moment, you get an empty window where: -- there is nothing in the queue list; -- nothing in the log list; -- there is a full progress bar in the centre but no any text around it; -- the buttons, including the window's close button or Alt-F4, don't work. After a while (about a half minute) the frozen window disappears.
