Re[2]: NFS: Minor UI bug

2004-08-24 Thread Marek Mikus
Hello all,
Monday, August 23, 2004, MAU wrote:

Yes, it's definitely a font scaling problem. I'm also using large fonts.
I switched to small fonts and I can then see both OK and Help buttons.
But this only happens in TB's NFS Sorting Office and no problem in any
other application I use. So, we must consider this a bug, don't you
 think?

I have added this bug into BT some days ago, please confirm it.

Hello MAU,

Monday, August 23, 2004, 11:13 you wrote at

I'm moving-in some filters as sub-filters and if I exit and start
TB the changes (the moved-in filters) have not been saved.
It looks like the new setup is not saved if the only change is some
 filters moved-in as sub-filters.

Confirmed.

Not for the message, but for the message list. When you look at your
color groups you see two selections under Normal and two under
Unread. The first one is the font color and the second is the
 background color.

Oh you got this wrong. The red background I added with Photoshop to
highlit where the mistakes are. The dark bar is my cursor position. so
nothing with background colors - sorry ;(

EC Are you spying on my Computer? ;)
No, but I could make really good money if I could do that. ;)

Re: TB! UI Bug in the Sorting Office

2004-08-24 Thread DZ-Jay
Some time around 08/23/2004 06:22:50, I think I heard Roelof Otten say:
 Hallo DZ-Jay,

 On Mon, 23 Aug 2004 06:11:06 -0400GMT (23-8-2004, 12:11 +0200, where I
 live), you wrote:

DJ So you mean that if I decide not to upgrade to the latest version
DJ I won't get bug fixes for mine, even though I paid for it?

What are you suggesting then? That Ritlabs keeps fixing bugs in 2.00
for users who don't want 2.10
That they continue releasing fixes for 2.10 for those who don't want
 2.12
To continue releasing fixes for 2.12 for those who don't like the NFS

So you mean to tell me that, as opposed to every other software development cycle on
the planet, every point update of TB! is a completely new product, with
re-engineered parts and brand new algorithms? This means that a change from, say,
2.11 to 2.12 would not necessarily fix problems with the previous version, but
introduce an entire new code base, and with it (possibly) all new bugs and pitfalls?

You see in any other software, if I feel comfortable with version X, I can choose not
to upgrade to version X + 1, but considering that I paid money for version X, the
developer feels compelled to offer, at the very least, bug fixes and security patches
as X.y. However, Ritlabs has decided -- according to what I infer from your comments
and from its versioning techniques, that there will be *no* version X + 1, but that
every single new product cycle will be X.xyz point upgrade, forcing everyone to try
a a new and unproven system and completely obsoleting a tried and true version --
without offering any sort of maintenance to its loyal (yet paying!) customers.

Please let it be not so.

Remember that every fix needs to be tested on both an alpha and a beta
forum, that takes resources that are hard to get. Most beta testers
like to use the latest features and therefore won't go testing old
 versions with minor bugfixes.

Poor beta testers. What about the responsibilities from a trusted company that takes
money from its customers?

I don't think that it's very likely to happen that Ritlabs is gpoing
to maintain multiple series of v2. You didn't pay for fixes, you get
the right to use the latest v2 release.

I didn't pay for fixes? I'm sorry, I thought that the latest v2 release would
include fixes to my current version 2, and expected that any new codebase would be
version 3.

Don't get me wrong, I am very happy with TB! so far, and I have been a loyal user for
some time and even recommended it to friends and family. However, I feel alarmed that
I will be forced to a completely new product just because I would like certain
problems fixed with my current one. A new filtering system, for example, as
mentioned by the previous post, does not sound like a bug fix to our current system,
but like an overhaul of it.

dZ.

Installation defaults

2004-08-24 Thread Foster, Graham
Hello Alexy
I do wish you would stop moving stuff about in terms of
installation config folders. I installed .5.11 by copying over the
.5.10 and nothing was working. I then realised that the paths etc had
changed. I repointed Bayesit to my old database and stuff started working
 again.

I've now got copies of files all over the shop. What is the
recommended path / folder configuration for Bayesit please.

Wait a minute. I didn't say that. I asked whether you were suggesting
something like that. You clearly stated that you didn't want to
upgrade to the latest version (2.13 or higher), but wanted fixes for
yours (2.12)
I merely tried to make it clear why that was unlikely to happen.

You were complaining about a bug in the sorting office and Maurice
told you that it wasn't likely to be fixed, because in the current
beta cycle the sorting office is being replaced by something new (and
better when it's ready)

Re: TB! UI Bug in the Sorting Office

2004-08-24 Thread DZ-Jay
Some time around 08/24/2004 04:55:37, I think I heard George M. Menegakis say:
Ritlabs are famous for the point releases. The version x.xx may have major new
functionality over x.x(x-1). I don't know about you but I love RIT guys for
 this.

New functionality is ok, in fact, its great! I really love Virtual Folders and some of
the other new features introduced in this past versions. But please understand my
point that entire re-designs of currently available features are not new features.
For example, adding VF: good; replacing real folders with VF: not so good, as it would
force *everyone* into a new paradigm to which they might not be ready or might not
agree with. This would be a candidate for a new product, say, TB! v3.0 - Introducing
a new way to handle your mail, all VF!!!, no more pesky physical folders. Those who
want that can upgrade, those who actually like 2.x should be able to keep it. This is
only an example.

I remember that we, the beta crowd, convinced Ritlabs to rename 1.54 to 1.6
because it had too many new features.

There comes a point when new functionality crosses the boundary between just a new
bell or whistle and a whole new product cycle. Taken, this boundary is relative and
highly subjective, but nevertheless should be considered.

Anyway, I think that Ritlabs should take care about the guys using version
1.xx by producing service releases for a reasonable period of time.

I hope so. At least for a reasonable period of time, is all I ask :)

Thanx,
dZ.

But doesn't a full replacement to a currently available feature include an entire new
codebase? Then this proves my point that point upgrades are new products, not
maintenance upgrades for current ones, like every other software.

Some minor Bugs in NFS

2004-08-24 Thread Boris Anders
Hello list,

UI Bug: Only 1. Subfilter is shown when opening NFS
Create a filter with 2 subfilters.
Close NFS
Open NFS: Now you can only se the filter with the first subfilter (but
not the second one).
See 01.gif

Re-Filter ignores filter with hotkeys
If a filter has a hotkey it's not executed by Refilter messages.
BTW: It would be greate if the NFS had the option This rule is
executed only by pressing the hotkey like the OFS had.

Read filter doesn't work
Filter:

 TB! Message Filter
beginFilter
UID: [86F8A966.01C489B2.4EC6AF90.00F031D5]
Name: Test\20Read
Filter: {\0D\0A\20`21\0D\0A}
Park
endFilter

But if a mark a message as unread, and read it, the message isn't
parked.

Confirmations?
