subject Major bug? in MicroEd mail display :

So, open a mail in a new window. Now make the window much narrower, so
the text will be wrapped. Now Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C so, copy it to the
clipboard. Now, copy (Ctrl+V) into any text editor. At me, the text is
re-wrapped based on the narrow window settings. Example it was
originally wrapped at 70 char, not it is at 20...

Is it normal, bug, or I am doing something wrong?
(I have beta07 at this machine, but it exists at beta11, I guess,
 too.)

This is a very old bug I reported already in Feb 2004:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=2527

It is right that PGP verification is normally done by internal
support/plugin, but I choose this example for illustration only.

In daily work it is not convenient that all text showed in plain text
viewer is wrapped as displayed on screen during copy to clipboard.

Offsite images are still a wish in the ritlabs bugtracker:

I know several TheBat! users who would like to see this implemented

Anyway, I do not think this is an issue as TB also behaved like this

hanging connections sometimes. They just sit there and I usually
kill the hanging task before TB snaps out of it, but I suppose the
task can hang for more than 15 mins.

DA I just choose Abort All Tasks, and then Alt-F2 again, which most of
DA the times wakes up the process again. If not, The Bat needs to be
DA restarted.

I asked them which IMAP server they use (see sig!).

The problem with Abort All Tasks is that if you are in process of saving
drafts remotely, they are never saved and your composed message is lost!

I usually just delete the first of the connections and TB usually waked
up again.

Yes, I definitely agree with that. But the mail client should NEVER
throw anything away that you've painstakingly typed, if it can't
connect to its server for whatever reason. It should at least save it
in some temporary backup store (the local outbox) whenever such an
error occurs.

I strongly agree with this. I don't save as draft to a server side
Outbox because of this issue. But I agree that this sort of reliability
issue should be given the priority it deserves. What forces migration in
very short order is a lack of reliability and poor ability to do simple
operations with the reasonable speed.

When I catch myself, I have been going to 'browse deleted messages'

Best would be if messages got a strike over and stayed in folder, as

A Few Questions

2005-10-10 Thread Randy
I'm fairly new to The Bat! (I'm testing it for possible use after the
demise of Mulberry) and I have a couple of questions:

1. In the IMAP Fine-Tune dialog, what does 'Auto-filtering' mean? I
dug around the help file and the FAQ but came up with nothing.

2. Is there any way to make PGP/MIME always stay on? It has three
options (Auto, On, Off) but I can't find a way to make them stick.

I've tried this with the last stable release and with the 3.61.11
beta.

Thanks!

I.F.P.O Error

2005-10-10 Thread Tony Boom

Hello TBBETA,

With certain message I keep getting this error, an Invalid Floating

If I leave the message in view the errors keep recurring at 8 to 10 second
intervals. Anyone seen this before?

  http://www.theboomclan.com/ifpo.png

I can click OK and they go away for 8 to 10 seconds but new ones just keep
recurring. It doesn't happen with the same message all the time, it seems
pretty random as to it's choice.

For some reason RITLabs refuses to make this option stick, which is
very strange, since it is precisely what users would expect to stick,
and it would cost about 10 minutes to program.

You can work around this deficiency by manually inserting %PGPMIME
tags into your message templates. Then, by default, this option will
be on. However, if you put a message in the outbox, and re-edit it
later, the option will be lost again. It sucks...

I've not tried .11, someone said that was a no no as far as IMAP is
concerned. Mind you, I'm seriously thinking of going back to all POP
accounts so I can use The Bat because I'm struggling with it more now than I
ever did. I don't seem to be getting on at all well with any version. I
still get the no loaded error for 75% of posts I try to open. Do all IMAP
users have to reboot in between virtually every message just to get them to
display? I'm getting pretty depressed with this. It seems to be just me
that's having problems loading and reading messages.

I'll try .11 a bit later.

It seems pretty stable actually (beta/10) in all aspects of IMAP, from
opening individual mail, to folders, etc most of the aforementioned
problems mentioned ad nauseam, over the last several months, have seemed to
have disappeared. Of course, several areas of IMAP are still not covered

Adventures with TB

2005-10-10 Thread Gleason Pace

Fifth attempt to write this message. The previous four ended in a
locked and not responding TB.

TB has been doing normal tasks so well lately that I thought I might
look at some of the other things it can do. I saw in the folder
context menu that I can move folders up/down and in/out. There are
some folders at the bottom of the hierarchy that I would like to move
up. TB did that without problem. I tried to delete the old container
folder. TB gave an AV error it could not recover from. Close and
reopen TB. I opened the Manage IMAP Folders window and clicked on
Reset List. (opening the Manage IMAP folders window while writing a
new message crashes TB) The Reset List function in this context
duplicates folders at the lowest level. If there were 4 subfolders in
an area, Reset List makes it 8. Reset List again makes it 12. I can
delete one of the duplicates. This causes all the other duplicates to
show a 0 message count. Close and reopen TB. Now all the moved
folders show 0 message count. Clear Message Cache has no effect.

I was able to recover from the mess by renaming account.flb. Among
other undesirable side effect this caused TB to spend better than an
hour retrieving all 12,000 message headers. TB was unable to complete
this task without crashing. The whole retrieval operation was
unnecessary. Mulberry is able to deal with this situation with no
noticeable interruption of program usage.

Further, I had similar experiences and frustrations with IMAP as you
have had. Make sure your turn off all syncronizing options. You will
still not be able to manage IMAP folder well, but at least you will be
able to do work. Perhaps this turn off syncronizing should be a FAQ
on TB!'s main page under IMAP.

You happened upon one of TB!'s problems. I'd suggest that you only do
basic folder creation and moving folders up and down the list. Do not
make one folder a sub-folder of another or the reverse. This leads to
the effect you described.

I was able to recover from the mess by renaming account.flb. Among

For you to browse a folder, TB! needs to build a local cache of the
message list. Mulberry doesn't have to do this, hence the difference. If
you tell Mulberry to do what TB! needs to do, it will take longer than
TB! does. Mulberry does far less for you to work. It's extremely
efficient. OTOH, TB! is faster at retrieving the data than Mulberry.
It's just that TB! retrieves so much information in order to get going.
