M how to do it :)

No that's OK, thanks for the offer. It would just teach me how to use
another workaround, and that was not the point of my message. The
point was that workarounds shouldn't be necessary. As long as they
 are, I cannot recommend TB.

No, I'm not suggesting or pointing a workaround. I am saying that a
filter with a lot of ORs can be easily changed with an editor to a
filter with alternatives. I am not suggesting to use one or the other,
but I agree with Stephan that the one with 'alternatives' should run
faster and be easier to maintain.

I agree with MAU. I think, the filters should be extracted, changed in
an automatic way, as reimported. Next time, the 'use alternatives'
instead of that many OR should be use at first.

So, it is not a workaround. It is a suggestion how to the existing
filtering faster. Or, we wish for a Optimize button on that screen

Re: About release

2005-11-02 Thread MAU
Hello Stefan,

M This was just let's say a 'concept suggestion' for Stephan which could
M be implemented transparently to the user.

Oh, I thought you wanted the user to use that macro.

Macro is just another option for better flexibility (e.g. adding it to AB
templates). As you know, some macro options can be set separately from
 template.
I guess, the folder to store replies in should be set at the same page where
 reply template is located.

I am not sure I understand your last statement but, if what you are
suggesting is to somehow associate a specific folder to a reply
template, I don't thing that is what most people requesting this feature
wants. Because this would mean that no matter what folder you are at, if
you use an specific reply template while at different folder, all
replied would be sorted to the same folder. Again I am not sure I
understood you correctly.

I still think that my idea about a transparent header is not that bad
and should be easy to implement. A single Common Outgoing filter (maybe
included by default that the user has only to activate), that can be
shared with desired accounts, could do the job. Perhaps a filter action
'Copy/Move to original folder' could be added or the existing Copy/Move
actions include an option when selecting the destination folder.

And I'll add something more. If the 'transparent header' was not
transparent but just a special header, this would allow manual
re-filtering of the Sent Mail folder.

Just some ideas :)

Common Folders

2005-11-02 Thread Stuart Hemming
I'm sure that this has come up before, but I can't find the messages.

Is there any way I can set the active account to be used when replying
to messages when I'm in a common folder at the folder level? Or do I
have to set at folder-level template and use %ACCOUNT to set it? And
if I've got a folder-level template are my address-level templates
going to be ignored?

DateTime problems in combination with Daylight Saving

2005-11-02 Thread Robert van der Hulst
Group,

I am experiencing a strange problem.

I retrieved some message from a mailing list archive today. Some were
missing in my mailbox, and some were duplicates. When looking closely at
the duplicates I noticed something strange: the Date/Time of these messages
is 2 hours different.

We have changed from Daylight savings to regular time last weekend, so I
can understand a 1 hour time difference, but two hours.

An example message header part is below:

Subject: Re: Outbound message causing network problems
Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2005 09:27:10 +0100

When I first received the message we were at Daylight saving, and were
using GMT+2. Now we are using GMT+1.

The mail folder displays the following Time Created for these messages:

Original Message (retrieved with Daylight saving on):29 Oct 2005, 11:27.
Message retrieved from Archive today (no daylight saving): 29 Oct 2005, 09:27.

If I export the old message to a MSG file and mport it again, it also shows
the time 09:27.

I really don't understand this. I could understand a difference of 1 hour,
but not 2 hours. Ideally I would like to see the Date/Time column display
everything in my _current_ time.

Can anybody explain this, or is this a bug?

IMAP uses too much bandwidth

2005-11-02 Thread Vilius Šumskas
Hello TBBeta,

I experimented with The Bat! all day and even half a night, and it
seems that The Bat!'s IMAP uses too much bandwidth during syncs and
  scans.

I left TB running for 3 hours. During this time period I recieved
62MB of data from my mail server and only 2 messages (1kb and 1.5kb).
Email is automatically checked and fully synchronized every minute.
So this is ~350KB every minute. It is definetely too much.

  P.S. I have 12 folder with 10k messages on 1 IMAP account.

Re: IMAP Connect To windows with cable connection

2005-11-02 Thread Vili
Hello Greg,

After upgrading to v3.62.05 I now get a Connect To window for a dial
up connection when I have selected 'Options | Network Admin | Local
Area Network or manual connection' when focus is on one of my IMAP
 accounts.
Yes I do have a dial up connection, but I use it only as a backup to
my cable connection. I did do a clean install with the upgrade to
v3.62.05 on the registry and program directory, but left the mail
directory as is. To set up all the accounts all I had to to was name
them and the rest of the stuff was there except I did have to select
'use specific settings' for the outbound SMTP server.
Since this only happens when only 1 of my IMAP accounts has focus is
 this a bug? Any ideals?

I did not quite understand, how to reproduce the bug. Once, like 2
months ago, a customer told me similar stuff: he had DSL, set LAN, but
when he started TB!, that wanted to use dialup. We went thru his
settings, nothing indicated to use dialup...

So, how could I reproduce it?

I would much prefer deleted messages to appear crossed out until I
expunge the folder.

I agree, but the tab seemed like a possible substitute until then, and
perhaps might be easier to implement.

A major part of the problem is the full synch'ing options. You don't
have to do that. Doing it will be bandwidth intense. Disable
synchronisation for your folders and have TB! check folder counts
intermittently via the fine tune options.

ongoing TB issues - bugs or features?

2005-11-02 Thread mark davidson
these may not be considered 'bugs' on all fronts. i nevertheless feel they are
worth mentioning.

1. TB ignores the 'default for mailto: urls' account assignment and instead
creates a message in the last used account. to the best of my knowledge, this
has never worked properly.

2. CTRL-DEL doesn't delete the entire following word in the the plain text
(windows) editor. this worked properly in a prior version although i can't say
which one at this point.

3. i sort messages by date descending and read oldest to newest (bottom up).
the 'follow previous' toolbar icon loops to the oldest message in the list once
the last new message has been read. to my way of thinking, TB should exit
message reading mode at this point or pop up a dialogue indicating that all
messages have been read.

thanks/regards, ..

That's the order in which I read also, in a View Folder window. And I
use the Follow Previous toolbar button to move up to the next unread
message.

Prior to v. 3.5, if my memory isn't too far wrong, the button would
not bring up another message when there were no more unread messages.
Instead, nothing happened--the currently viewed message stayed in the
window.

Then came a period with the new interface where the focus jumped
randomly anywhere in the folder.

At least, consistently now it goes to the bottom of the message list.
For me, since I thread by none, this means that I always see the first
message in my folder--which happens to be a TB! Welcome Message from
2002.

Then (by now it's automatic), I click the Follow Next button and I'm
back at the top.

I would prefer the old behavior, where the window stayed open, focused
on the last read message when there are no more unread messages left.

I would find a dialogue box a distraction.

I don't like such a delete function. If you delete a message it is
deleted - they are in the Trash folder and if you want to really
delete them you empty the Trash.

You can use the trash folder if you chose. I don't, and would like to
be able to view messages marked for deletion more easily.

Even with POP, if you delete a message it is not deleted. Even though
it goes in the trash, it is still also in the folder it was deleted
from, until the folder is compressed.

This is not a personal comment (it would be if you were a developer!)
but your suggestion summarises the problem with TB. It's easy to
implement a 'crossed through' solution to deleted messages but Ritlabs
have indicated they're not interested in doing that. Can you imagine a
newcomer to TB, frustrated at the prog's non-standard way of seeing
deleted messages stumbling across the solution you suggest? Difficult
enough with an up-to-date help file but as it stands...

I am not sure what you mean?

IMO they _should_ implement crossed though messages - but as an option,
the trash folder being another option.

Of course only for IMAP accounts.

You're right of course, but you wouldn't like the time needed to
delete a single message, because TB would need to write the whole
folder to disk again and especially for the bigger folders that can
take some time.
