Hi Maxim,

Installed over running 5.0.10 (OTFE) ; asked to close TB! for update ;
TB! has shown password window - I didn't provide a password but
pressed Cancel ; after that I got a message window that TB! is still
running in the background and there was Retry/Exit buttons.
Retry was not working - TB! running please close and so on

Had to kill TB! process and then press Retry to get it rolling.
After that TB! installed and run properly.

Working good here - got warning every time.
Tried buttons (reply and reply all) as well as selection from drop

I see this as just the uuencoded data. However this is what I would expect as there are no MIME headers in this mail, so any MUA should just show it as plain text. I have tried on 3 different MUA to confirm.

Installed and running well here, also, in Gmail's IMAP. But I don't
sort by threads, so cannot comment on issues like that.

I ran the installation right over the previous one, and started the
Bat immediately (by option) after the installation completed. No
 issues in starting up.

this is all fairly confusing, perhaps because Gene Kearns e-mails each
break the thread. Correction, I see two messages from him or her
which each break the thread. There may be other messages I don't see
because they don't. It would help if the message you are asking about
was identified. I seeamessagefromKearns
which starts a sub thread,
mid:ptgpr69i3r830mggor6c35c1p3pn5d9...@4ax.com which contains a block
of text.another mid:f6hpr69vvak2bckdo5cr9hekuef2um3...@4ax.com
contains an attachment and nothing else except the list footer.

I would judge that the thread itself starts here with a message not
from Kearns. mid:198979698.20110430224...@ritlabs.com

To be precise, the issue appears to be that the filter settings are
stored in Windows ANSI codepage (which covers just the characters of
the active language - anything outside is turned to question marks).

Unfortunately, as it occurred it's not only for Chinese/Japanese/Thai

It happens for any language that is not English and has it's own
national characters (Polish on Chinese OS ; CHN, JP, Rus on English or
Polish OS ; any other combination you can think of).

FOLDERS

I can not see the point in using The Bat if it's not possible to make
folders names in other that English or OS native languages.

The main features (Filtering System and Folders) - the reason
why The Bat is superior to Thunderbird are worth nothing if you

it's better to stick to solutions like Thunderbird (not so powerful

Subject: Chinese language filtering bug

===8<==Original message text===
Hi there,

I'm replying to you regarding the Chinese issue in thebat. For some known
reasons, I cannot reply to the mailinglist directly, hence this email.

The Chinese bug you mentioned has been there for a long time. Occasionally it
works, but most of the time it doesn't. BTW, I'm still using v4. The buggy
search in Chinese is the reason why I ended up buying Archvarius 3000. It can
read and archive many file formats, including thebat. It's a life-saver when it
comes to search for info in my thebat email bases. :)

Also, FWIW, I believe there are other bugs in thebat's search function. I'm
pretty sure even when searching in English, thebat often fails to find the
words. It's a horrible bug.

Anyway, FYI. I doubt Ritlabs can do much about it. They have a Chinese
distributor in Mainland China. If the distributor cannot get Ritlabs to fix it,
it's hard to be optimistic.

I am using Courier IMAP and have had no problems with images so far.

Thanks for confirmation (reported - ID: 0008661 ; Lack of support of characters
coding on non-native OS while filtering).

Yes! The Polish characters you provided turned into question marks after the
filter saved on my system. TB does not support non-native charset well. Its
Unicode support needs further improvement. Would you please open a new issue on
bugtraq?
