Bug report

2002-01-17 Thread Anton I. Danilov

Mousewheel problems since some of betas:

When message is opened in a separate window and I scroll message list
with mousewheel, the message itself scrolls, too. That behaviour
appears also in main screen sometimes (especially when scrolling log).
And, of course, it is not a permanent behaviour, just flashy.

Re[2]: The Bat deletes attachments

2002-01-15 Thread Anton I. Danilov

A message with an attachment exists twice in two separate folders (this
not the problem but intentional), when one of it gets deleted (or moved?),
 the attachment gets lost.

The account is set to store attachments in a separate folder and to delete
messages when they are removed from the Trash.

Could it be that when one copy of the message gets moved to the trash and
deleted the Bat is not aware of a second copy existing and simply deletes
 the attachment?

how should TB know, how many copies of message with same attachment You
have? This problem can be solved for You, if You will have attachments in
message bodies - attachment will be in each msgbase, where You will have
 such message.

How? Do you know how a filesystem knows how many names a file has got?
It has a reference counter. In TB case it could be a simple hash. I
personally dislike TB's habit to duplicate attachments when they're
the same files and attached to different letters... It also could be
solved and it could save much diskspace, at least in my case, it would
save up to 50% of the mailbox size.

Re[2]: Marking message as Read on server

Did he finish Dispatcher session normally (F2 or Execute or Start

Poor, but TB has a problem with this, really. I tried to use it, but
it doesn't remember which messages it received and which not, and
receives all of them, and not only new, etc. I had to reject this
feature.

Re[2]: Beta-28 having some problems?

2002-01-14 Thread Anton I. Danilov

-a- when moving 2 postings manually from one folder to an other
one it takes about 40 sec.

 No, no noticable delay

In my case I've noticed a (subjective) decrease in speed of about 50%

Try checking your temp folders. The Bat! could create numerous
temporary files there and this delay could be caused by this. There
was an accident.

Re: Possible to Disable Security question ?

2002-01-14 Thread Anton I. Danilov

 Hi !

Using Beta 28 I created a new shortcut for marking
all messages read. The only unnecessary thing left
over is the box popping up asking Do you really want...

This is useless for me handling 30+ Folders.

Is it possible to shut the feature down ?

In a good program, especially such as a mail client, every notorious
question (simply put - every) should be carrying don't ask this
again ckeckbox. Look at OE, for example, they realize that, and they
are Microsoft!

By the way, OE interface looks much smoother and cleaner than The
Bat!'s.

In a good program has an ... interesting implication ;)

Why so? There are GOOD programs, and there are BAD programs :-)

I agree, though; I hope that this sort of thing is coming up in
version 2. Apart from that issue (warn once, then turn off if needed)
there are some gross inconsistencies with warning and information
popups. My favourite is Options | Preferences | Applications; the
Associate ... button has no yes, I've done it popup but the ...
Simple MAPI ... button below it has a yes, I've done it popup.

Getting rid of this sort of inconsistency really requires someone to
spend a long time going through the program systematically testing
every control; it takes ages and is very boring ... but necessary.

It takes much less time to project everything beforehand. Look at The
Bat! developers. They are fixing numerous bugs which came from their
projection mistaker. For example, there was a bug that message list
settings were automatically saved in main window and were not saved in
a separate window. If they'll invent some new message list somewhere -
there'll be bugs and bugs again. They'll have to check everything.
That's only a question of planning and projecting.

OE looks and feels better because Microsoft has graphics artists and
user interface designers everywhere and _pours_ money into usability
testing. In addition, it controls the user interface standards so can
always deem what's right with everyone rushing to catch up.

Of course. But The Bat!'s usability suffers. Look suffers. It could be
improved, and it should be improved. But it seems to me that
developers think about implementing different notepads, expression
calculations, they decided to develop yet another HTML control - a
good time waste, and I'll not be surprised when I'll see clock and mp3
player in TB. I'm dissappointed.

Re: RTViewer: Fonts question

2002-01-12 Thread Anton I. Danilov

In Options - Preferences - Viewer - Rich Text - Item: Regular
Text the syles underline, italic and bold are grayed out.

   Simple question: Why?

I had the same problem when there were troubles with tahoma other
fonts, but the developers said that they have all the fonts in the
list, and no problems. Thus, my bug appears in your case...

Re[2]: Question to developers

2001-12-27 Thread Anton I. Danilov

The menu navigator is probably for the newbie or the intermediate user
looking for a menu option in the sea of menu options. :-)

I'm not sure, do you realize that a good program will never provide
such a sea of option? These seas are usability flaws! One sea --
one bad usability. Thus I'm talking for usability tests and
reconstruction... Just - to remove seas and to make these
  navigators useless.

Re[2]: Backing up

 Hello Alexander.

At 5:32 PM on Tuesday, December 25, 2001 you wrote the
following on the posted subject 'Backing up':

Alexander Really - because I want write now impossible,
Alexander with external tool - easy manual filter + rar

Sorry, don't understand: is there a way to backup from the
command line. If so, can you explain the steps to make
   this happen.

Probably one way to do this is to create a 'back-up.bat'
   run that instead of bat.exe.

Yeah really. The answer given didn't answer the question taken.

Re: Why large attachments (was: 1.54 Beta/19)

2001-12-22 Thread Anton I. Danilov

 2. Why would you store *huge* peace of data using mail
client (and specially *inside* its mail database), which is
*not* optimized for it instead of using some database engine?

 Good question.

BY THE WAY!

People... Why not asking the Bat! developers to adapt Bat for working
with, say, SQL databases? That would COMPLETELY solve the database
performance question, as far as you'll be able to store your mail on a
corporate Oracle 9i server running on a 32-processor Sun server. And
it will be completely seamless!.. I consider it to be a great idea.
