Re: The Bat! v6.0.0.12 ALPHA
Answering a current message (Friday, October 11, 2013, 21:12) Good evening Max, MM The Bat! v6.0.0.12 ALPHA is available at see attached error messages for 64bit version. 32bit version runs ok. re: http://www.ritlabs.com/download/files3/the_bat/alpha/tb60012a64.rar (64-bit EXE) Had a go at this 64bit version here on win7 in conjunction with the latest thebat.lng - Works like a charm here - no problems whatsoever with POP3 account(s). Re: winmail.dat
Hi, today I received a message with an attachment winmail.dat. Isn't TheBat supposed to be able to decode this file by itself? I don't remember having seen one of those for ages. The message was a reading confirmation generated by Outlook 2010. Regards, Alto Hello - no one should ever send a winmail.dat file to anyone as an attachment to a mail. Anyone (in fact any stupid person or newcomer to all matters computer and software) who does this didn't configure his Microsoft Outlook program correctly. Even if it's a person who you trust you should delete this file immediately and never open it. Especially if it's a person you trust send him an email telling him he should enter winmail.dat in Google and search how he can program/change Outlook so he won't ever attach winmail.dat again. Re: winmail.dat
Hello Franz, Anyone (in fact any stupid person or newcomer to all matters computer and software) who does this didn't configure his Microsoft Outlook program correctly. Are you sure? A MS technet post I read explains how to prevent sending winmail.dat, but only to specific addressees. There is no mention of an option that Outlook users (without Exchange servers) can tick or untick to globally turn sending winmail.dat on or off. Is this incorrect? Is there such an option? Hello Alto, it's such a long time ago I had to tell a friend (who'd just bought Office 2007 and was verrry proud to use the new Outlook) how to DE-install sending the winmail.dat file to me that I forgot where to do this. As a music promoter he sent this file with every pdf, all the graphics and informations out to every jounalist in his address book. A nightmare... From what I read it's even de rigeur (a MUST) to NOT attach this file - actually every specialist recommended to configure Outlook so you won't send this attachment with every mail. At least you can click that away every time someone sends this file; so it won't do harm to your computer. But why send this attachment anyway? Re: winmail.dat
Hello Franz, Anyone (in fact any stupid person or newcomer to all matters computer Especially if it's a person you trust send him an email telling him he should enter winmail.dat in Google and search how he can program/change Outlook so he won't ever attach winmail.dat again. that is rather bold a statement and a stance I would not choose in communication with, say, a customer. Plus, since we're discussing the abilities of our favourite mail client here, let's not go into ideology, and advising people to do something about their stupid customers/mail partners. Rather I'd choose to have a mail client that can look into that winmail.dat for me to see if there is an attachment I expect or not. To my knowledge, not only OL/OE overhead, but also valid attachments can be packed by Outlook in this file format. If Marek Mikus says, TheBat! can read the format for me, I am fully satisfied. Hello Viktor, after I did some research on this, winmail.dat for me was always one of the file types I deleted immediately when attached to a mail in The Bat!. In the beginning I used to open such files several times with QuickViewPlus (a program that looks at the content but does not REALLY open it - so there's no danger coming from it. From what I understood many years ago winmail.dat is a file produced because someone did not configure his Outlook correctly. Maybe I'm completely wrong... I never saw anything worthwhile in winmail.dat attachments. Best regards, Franz Current beta is 5.0.36.3 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Large Attachment are not send
Dear All, I notice since a little while that I can't send large attachment anymore. If I attache files like 8 MB it will try to send for about 4 - 12% and then aborts the sending. I get the following error... I am not sure if this is TB! related or a limitation on gMail (limit in attachments). Would appreciate your feedback - thank you all. Hello Eddie, maximum attachment of a mail with Gmail is 25 MB. So this can't be the problem. In theory... Maybe you try to split attachments this big with WinRAR or 7-Zip and send smaller 'packages'? The receiving person can easily 'reconstruct' the attachments with one click using 7-Zip or WinRAR ... This also makes for faster Email delivery. (In theory...) Maybe you send yourself an Email and see if that works. Most definitely. It started in the .18 series. And now for something else - to all the Gmail users who it might concern in this forum : Maybe you'll all want to have a look at this video and feel amused ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXZOQAbatTE Kind regards, Franz (Still using 4.2.44.2 ... on XP Sp3) Current beta is 5.0.22.1 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: wrong time zone offset fix
If you upgrade to v5 and then downgrade to v4, the messages received/created in v5 will have wrong time depending on time zone difference, the message base is not backwards compatible. Question: This is also the case if you only exchange the exes in the Bat! folder for test purposes? i. e. NOT installing with msi? Hello, Franz. You wrote on Monday, June 14, 2010, 2:54:33 AM: will The Bat! then start/boot again in tenths of seconds instead of 29 seconds as right now on this computer? Let us figure why it starts so slowly. How many folders and address book entries do you have, how many plugins, etc.. Do you run over a network? 27 address book entries/names - not really very many. Only one account. Don't run over a network, one provider. I wonder if I should delete The Bat! and re-install it from scratch as I don't understand why it's become booting so slowly. I have lots of old versions of software, on 5 1/4 floppies, for example, which are pretty useless even though I still own them. *** No, not this company. Why should they? Even though they are at the crossroads for their technology, development and general future, I think. Did you know that you in fact do not own (!) are not the real owner of your MS OS? Ever read the EULA? That you are not allowed to sell it or your paid-for Office??? At least seperately, only with your complete computer? This stuff never went before the EUGH in Luxemburg. The crazy thing is: the EULAs say they LOAN it to you under certain conditions. You are not allowed to SELL what you paid for. (btw: is it allowed to sell your private license (paid for) for a given The Bat! version to someone after you don't use it anymore?) All this stuff reminds me of this great rendition of Boz Scaggs on his solo Atlantic debut of Loan Me A Dime ;-) I can only recommend anyone who doesn't know this in the Beta List to give it a listen ;-) Afterwards going back to The Bat! problems of the moment... Re: New versions of The Bat!
Hello, Tbbeta. The new version will be version 5.0. The registration system will be changed. We didn’t yet completely figured out the final changes to the registration system, but the preliminary changes are the following: registration will allow using The Bat! for a particular period of time. It will not be bound to version numbers as before. During this time period, the user will be able to update to newer versions of The Bat! and receive technical support. Upon the expiration of the term, no updates to newer versions will be possible unless the user prolongs the period by paying the fee. Hello Maxim, will The Bat! then start/boot again in tenths of seconds instead of 29 seconds as right now on this computer? What's happening here? The same cost-intensive upgrade routine as with some other software manufacturers is planned? btw: Does anyone like programs that are practically loaned for a given time-window? I keep wondering.
