First: Why do you want to change your running system? (Please don't do this!) You want to change the system? OK. Main advice: do a backup of your mails. You need to know where the mails are. Look under: Opciones -> Preferencias -> Sistema -> Directorio de Correo Copy this path into the clipboard. Exit "The Bat!" now. Open the path to your mail in the file manager ("Windows Explorer"). Compress the complete folder including the subfolder. You can use "7zip" (https://www.7-zip.org) or so. Also do a backup with The Bat! internal backup system: Herramientas -> Copia de Seguridad (backup all which is show in this assistent). Store the zip file and the file you got with The Bat!'s internal backup system to an external disk or USB pen. Thats to ticket back if something fails. Then: 1.) Uninstall the old "The Bat!" installation via Windows deinstaller 2.) Install the newer version of "The Bat!" 3.) If you didn't changed the path to the mails it will recognise your mails. 4.) If not simply change the path with: Opciones -> Preferencias -> Sistema -> Directorio de Correo to the path it shows up before. 5.) Exit The Bat! 6.) Start it again - It will ask you to make use of the mail accounts it finds now 7.) Done. If something did not work: deinstall the new version, delete the Program folder and also delete the folder which you got before (it is the folder which you saw in "Directorio de Correo"). Reinstall the older version again and copy all your mails (it will include the account settings) into the folder "Directorio de Correo" from the beginning. -- Best regards, Joerg Schiermeier Bielefeld, Germany =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= productive: The Bat! pro v9.5.1.0 (32bit) - wine(at)Devuan test environment (32bit + 64bit): The Bat! pro - latest beta wine: v7.15 - Devuan (chimera): vDebian 5.18.16-1 emulated windows version (build number): v10.0 64bit (17763) 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Hello list! Last Friday a new version of wine (Version 7.6) was published. This version made The Bat! working again on wine. You will find a description of the new version on wines web page: <https://www.winehq.org/news/2022040801> The Bat v9.5.1.0 is running on Linux (Debian64) on brand new wine v7.6 from Friday, April 8th, 2022, as 32 bit and 64 bit version without any (known) problems. First: I agree to Gleasons opinion too. Second: I left the windowed world more than 21 years ago and all my applications I now run are based on the descendants of UNIX and Linux: the Debian operation system. And I also prefer software which is made based on the KISS principle [1]. The only applications from the windowed world I use every day is "The Bat!" now running on top of wine. I know and use "The Bat!" since its version 1.32. Neither Thunderbird nor KMail nor Claws Mail hits my requirements of today for professional use of e-mail communication. This maybe the reason why I'm a little scared about when I hear about to built in new and untested feature into "The Bat!". My point of view is clearly influenced by the KISS principle: create one small and effective app [1]. So my wished addressed to the "RitLabs"-Team: Please fix some major and minor bugs in "The Bat!" first! Maybe you want to take the goal "bug free" as your guiding stars! Than there maybe some time to think about new features - otherwise a feature crepping [2] progress will take place and all is lost [1] "KISS principle" <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KISS_principle#In_software_development> [2] "Feature creep" <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feature_creep> My two cents! The Ritlabs Bug Tracker
Hello everybody! I want to introduce an idea to everybody in this list: What do you think about when the Mantis bug tracker always sends a mail to this list when a new bug is reported? Note: To be clear: the bug tracker only sends a mail once when a new bug is reported - not when this new bug is changed or someone adds a note or so. So we will have a basis for our testing and can focus on actual difficulties with our beloved flying animal. Running The Bat! on wine by using GnuPG from Linux
Hello list, hello Maxim! The following problem isn't really a problem which should be solved next time: it's more a general issue with "The Bat!" running on Linux with a little help from wine. So nothing to really worry about. But maybe I can get some help or some ideas. Preface: Running "The Bat!" on top of a Linux installation with wine is working without any (known) problem. Also in this special case the interaction with GnuPG for encrypting and/or signing mails is working. I use GnuPG installed also in wine (GnuPG as its Windows version). The Idea: I want to use the GnuPG infrastructure directly which is installed in Linux. What is working: -"The Bat!" works -I can call GPG from the underlaying Linux via a simple symbolic link to '/usr/bin/gpg'. -GnuPG will read my keys correctly, see log from the console. --- output of Linux console --- sec:u:4096:1:67673EA872AD2EB6:1562876870:1720556870::u:::scESC::23::0: fpr:652D822DFB01726C37E5B55B67673EA872AD2EB6: grp:4814EA4B73394857D76E458114DE0C6A81BC00F8: uid:u1562877116::56E50EB55AAEBBAAE29FC9B267C7168DE5EA539D::Joerg Schiermeier (Das ist ein Testaccount.) ::0: uid:u1562877089::DDCF210BF75D183FDFCFBB96AF4730CE206E5930::Joerg Schiermeier (Das ist ein Testaccount.) ::0: ssb:u:4096:1:E404F244EB598803:1562876870:1720556870:e::23: fpr:DAC5D92E02064D3D1A72C720E404F244EB598803: grp:F589BE3F009FDE31064250F6A3D2D9CC8F9B52E5: --- // --- This didn't work: The transfer of this infos back to "The Bat!" fails.
