Re[2]: Feature wish - edit subject line

On Thursday, October 21, 2004 it appears that Allie Martin
wrote the following in regards to Feature wish - edit subject line:

AM I'm not surprised that this would be the courts position on unsecured
AM e-mail. The way to battle this problem wouldn't be to make it
AM difficult for users to edit received mail. The way to battle it is
AM through the use of PGP/SMIME. Tinker all you wish. However, the
AM signature is broken in the process. So those who wish to secure their
AM mail from tinkering fingers, sign them. This will leave all involved
AM free to tinker with mail that doesn't really need securing, list
AM traffic being one such mail flavour.

Hi Allie. I don't disagree but then we have the problem of
verifying incoming mail, i.e. this is what s/he said in response
to my post etc.

Re[2]: Feature wish - edit subject line

2004-10-20 Thread James Olsen
Hello,

DAC Why should one have to have another app to do what a good email client
DAC should allow: ability to edit both subject and text of incoming
DAC emails (as well as repair threads)

I've had the need to edit a subject, date (when their clock was way
off, in order to have proper chronological lists), and to attach a
message (references) to thread. I've ran into threading issues a
number of times when a person's email client doesn't support
the references header, or if they replied to a message that was
actually a new thread, or used a new message to follow up on an
existing thread.

Does anyone know if any of these things have been requested in Mantis
yet? I did some preliminary searches and so far haven't found any, but
I'd like to make sure so I don't add a duplicate request.

I've known that most people here do not want this feature, but other people need it.
So if developper don't plan to implement it, how about open more plugin API to enable
us to create such a plugin which can modify subject line? Those who hate this feature
can choose not to use this plugin. And we, who want to modify subject line, can get
this feature.

I've complained about the inability to *easily* edit
 emails before,

I would like to see this enhancement, too. I suggest that something be
added to the (usually not visible) header text indicating the original
subject line.

As you'r using your current ISP / free account, you agree to their

It's not a lack, it's a wish.

My ISP has Spamassassin installed and marks the subjects with some
strings:
 - [SPAM RBL]
 - [SPAM *] - The more stars the more level of spam
 - or both

I wish better than edit messages a filter that removes strings from
the subject. Another filter to remove attachments using the attachment
file name will be another improvement.
