I do it, and to be honest, I've not seen a single change in the amount
of spam I get... but then again, my email address is published on
websites, domain contacts, and other administration information, so
that may be where the difference is ;) As for why it is there, I
cannot remember off the top of my head.

It'll probably only be the editing of one file... the account default
file... that probably won't take them much longer than 30mins to
adjust... I'm guessing anyway.

I agree with you completely. It is a hassle, albeit a minor one, to delete
those mailtos in every new account's templates.

I don't know at all what the idea behind this is in the first place... Does
anyone?

Good idea, although I'm afraid this issue won't get premium priority on the
wish-list... ;-)

Suggestion for default templates

2003-01-30 Thread Foster, Graham
Hello tbbeta

The supplied templates for TB have the originators mailto: in the
  footer of the message.

This is inadvisable, as when posting e-mail that can end up on a web
based archive (like this group for example?) these e-mail addresses
can easily be harvested. I know that most web based system make the
actual e-mail addresses anonymous - but they are unlikely to mangle
  the body of the message.

.. if you don't believe me that it happens - just use google to
search for your full e-mail address and see how many hits you get.

Perhaps these default templates should be changed to protect the
un-initiated (like me until a few weeks ago!)

regards,
 Graham

Using The Bat! 1.63 Beta/5
under Windows XP 5.1
(Build 2600, )
