ongoing TB issues - bugs or features?

2005-11-02 Thread mark davidson
these may not be considered 'bugs' on all fronts. i nevertheless feel they are
worth mentioning.

1. TB ignores the 'default for mailto: urls' account assignment and instead
creates a message in the last used account. to the best of my knowledge, this
has never worked properly.

2. CTRL-DEL doesn't delete the entire following word in the the plain text
(windows) editor. this worked properly in a prior version although i can't say
which one at this point.

3. i sort messages by date descending and read oldest to newest (bottom up).
the 'follow previous' toolbar icon loops to the oldest message in the list once
the last new message has been read. to my way of thinking, TB should exit
message reading mode at this point or pop up a dialogue indicating that all
messages have been read.

thanks/regards, ..

That's the order in which I read also, in a View Folder window. And I
use the "Follow Previous" toolbar button to move up to the next unread
message.

Prior to v. 3.5, if my memory isn't too far wrong, the button would
not bring up another message when there were no more unread messages.
Instead, nothing happened--the currently viewed message stayed in the
window.

Then came a period with the new interface where the focus jumped
randomly anywhere in the folder.

At least, consistently now it goes to the bottom of the message list.
For me, since I thread by none, this means that I always see the first
message in my folder--which happens to be a TB! Welcome Message from
2002.

Then (by now it's automatic), I click the Follow Next button and I'm
back at the top.

I would prefer the old behavior, where the window stayed open, focused
on the last read message when there are no more unread messages left.

I would find a dialogue box a distraction.

Yes, it worked and it works. On my 3 PCs.

It indicates that at you none of your accounts is assigned to URLs...

Confirmed. Do you know if there is a bug report logged in BugTrack? If
there is or if you open one, I will support it.

Not necessarily. Once you've entered it into bugtrack, you can always
refer to the URL and complain how long this bug has been open. ;-)

the current behaviour would be less annoying if the cursor wasn't sticky and
defaulted to the newest message when TB was opened. i agree with you that a
dialogue box would be distracting but no more so than the status quo.

If the choice is only between how TB! behaves at present after the
last unread message is viewed and a dialogue box, of course I would
prefer the dialogue box. :)

When I tried to reproduce the AVs with mailto accounts when TB is not
running, I ran into this problem as well. Even though NO account was set to
be the default for mailto links, it used the previous account. However,
BEFORE I checked one account for testing, it used to work (showing me the
account selection window). Its not working anymore now. Odd.

Searching the bugtracker for anything mailto related gives me no results,
is there already an entry for this problem?

That was my fault, I accidentally disabled cookies in my browser and it
seems the BT is not working without cookies. However, the issues I found
when searching for "mailto" are not about this specific problem, either.

i should have been more clear. mailto: links work properly for me in mozilla
firefox and internet explorer but not opera. when clicking a mailto: link in
opera, TB opens but doesn't start a message. that said, i don't use opera much
and it could be misconfigured in some way.

However, whereas formerly, in my system here, it did NOT work, now it
does.
Just now, I tested two ways. First, I moved to this Lists account,
reading The Bat news. Then I went to a web site I know has a mailto:
on its page. I clicked that and then put the email into its out-box. I
verified it was in the correct, other, active-mailto account not the
Lists.

Secondly, I placed the focus again in the Lists account, reading TB!
stuff. Then I closed TB! Then I went back to that web page and
activated the email link. TB! came up, I que'd the email into wherever
it went. I went and verified it was, once again, inside the outbox of
the designated mailto: account.

It works, at least, on some systems.
