Based on Delphi 2 experience I'd make a *guess* at about 65536 messages per folder. This is based on a long integer being used to store the number of messages. Then again Stefan might have used an longword allowing for 4294967295 messages per folder. If we go really mad and use an extended floating point number we could have 1.1 x 10^4932 messages per folder. Of course a lot of this depends on the number of items a Delphi 2 listBox supports. If you are connected to your ISP via a dial-up of theirs, and your current TB installation has worked before and works again when you go home, then you must be lying. ;) If you're using IPass or something like that, I would imagine that Teleport might have some blockers on their outgoing mail server to only allow connections from machines on their network(s) (I used to be a Teleport customer, way back in the day). In this case you'll have to get help from Teleport's support staff on connecting to their mail server from a remote location. Same goes for the case where you're plugging your computer into the client's network (unless they're served by Teleport). Obviously it would be tough to send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] if you can't send mail, so in that case I suggest looking up their 1-800 number (if they still have it, they just installed it as I was on my way out), or "temporarily" change TB to use the same outgoing mail server as everyone else in the building. If that doesn't work, they have a 1-800 support line for help in connecting to their email services, 800-223-3435 if memory serves. :) -tom! -- Bah, ridiculous thing. -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

All they do is provide SL an extra filter that needs to be run and virtually nil chance of catching SL anyone. SL Filters on subjects or on pseudo-techincal means also fail because they SL generate false positives, are ineffective (maake monie know!), and can block SL legit users for dubious return. SL So, without futher buildup, here's the system that I put to this list back SL in January. Let me know that in that time I had instituted that filter on my SL home account and was catching 2-3 spam a day and cannot recall a single SL positive hit /aside/ from when I started a new list and hadn't gotten a SL message in from it yet to set up the filtering. SL The two basic premises are this: SL 1: Nearly every spammer BCCs. SL 2: People get mail from two sources, directly addressed to them from SL individuals they know or mass mailed (BCC) mailing lists they signed up for. SL Instead of trying to filter spam, we're going to define a set of rules to SL filter everything but spam. SL So, we set up a series of filters. SL The second series of filters catches mail from individuals who /may/ BCC SL the person. Friends, family, loved ones, work colleagues, etc. SL The next to last filter stops filtering on anything which is directly SL addressed to the individual. SL The last filter moves everything that wasn't caught by the above filters SL into a spam folder for the person to double check for something that might SL have been missed and final deletion. SL Another way to put it is like this... If it isn't a mailing list, from SL friends/relatives or directly addressed to you, chances are high that it is SL spam. SL In tracer's case, if sender = recipient chances are it isn't on a mailing SL list he is on, it isn't from someone he expects to BCC him, and, clearly, it SL isn't from him. It will be filtered. Kind of an impractical request but let me see if my illustration will make you better understand. For one to understand and implement this method, it needs to be realised that when a message is filtered, it isn't subject to subsequent filtering by filter rules that are after the rule which matched the message (unless you enable the 'continue processing with other filters' switch). This is how my filtering looks schematically: - PGPKey request filter - Discussion list filters here. - Filter rules for messages from friends - Filter rules for messages from family - Filter rules for messages from news and other promo sites to which I have subscribed. All that's left to be filtered are messages addressed directly to me that are from individuals or groups for which I haven't created filters and messages being BCC'd to me. Let's continue with the filtering: - I now create a non-specific filter rule to match messages with 'To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the headers. By now, 98-99% of the messages left are spam. Last but not least: - I create a non-specific filter rule to match *any* message and move them to the spam folder. I use the filter string 'e' since the letter 'e' appears in all messages. One could simply make the filter delete the message but this may lead to an occasional legitimate message that has been BCC'd to you being lost. TB! however has per-folder settings to purge folders which is nice. I have my spam folder set to keep messages no longer than a week. -- -=A. Font offer
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi, For you guys out there who may be running high resolutions I have a font for you. I'm presently running at a 1600x1200 resolution using large fonts and at size 11, Lucida Sans Typ is great since it's nicely anti-aliased at this size. If you're using lower screen resolutions, you may have to use a prohibitively high font size to take advantage of anti-aliasing (font smoothing). The font looks pretty crappy to me when not smoothed but you may try it anyway if you like and make your own decision. :-) Note however, that although Lucida Sans Typ is a fixed width font it will not appear in the list of fixed width fonts. A registry hack works beautifully. "Simply" change the following value to Lucida Sans Typ after installing the font: HKCU/Software/RIT/The Bat/Editor/Font (For those who may not realize, you need to close TB! before doing this and then restart it afterwards). I could not help but notice that many of you have different "Tag Lines" in your e-mail every time you send one to the list. My questions is, do you have a template that changes the tag line of every e-mail, or are you changing it manually every time you send an e-mail? ALSO if it is a template, could you please describe how you did it. Thanks P.S. - TheBat is the best e-mail program I found. Re[2]: Fwd: Re: TheBat and Spam
I've been using the Spambouncer on a shell account for many years. It works VERY well! See http://www.spambouncer.org/ It comes in two parts, one is customized to fit personal stuff, and the other is a large program to do rather detailed filtering of spam. Anyone interested in what it takes to do a *good* job on spam might look at the code. All is free, and the procmail code is posted and used to filter. On a later wish list it might be nice to 'add-on' such a sophisticated filtering technique. In the meantime, how would one go about using this code to filter mail, assuming you do NOT have shell access or file permissions on your email ISP host. It would have to be done on the local/Win machine. Any ideas? This works very well, and I 'd like to use it, but can't think of a way to do it. No Win/procmail, that I know of, and no easy hook to the message stream. -- Best regards, ztradermailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org

Re: Received window shifts (or the contents do...)
Hello John, On Thursday, August 24, 2000 at 17:14:23 GMT +1000 (which was 12:14 AM where I live) [EMAIL PROTECTED] typed: Hi fellow Bat! fans, Strange Bat! behaviour. Scroll through messages using Ctrl ], then sick of the thread, click on next thread with mouse. Mails in window showing mails (right hand top of screen) shifts over to the left, so I always have to hit the scroll bar at the bottom of this window to see the next e-mail subject. It will happen if you click on a column that is too big to fit in the current screen. Try clicking on the subject when selecting a new message to read. To get back, you can also use the left arrow key with the message list pane in focus. Has this been reported before - apologies if so. If I remember correctly, Lief Gregory reported this quite some time ago. It doesn't get much press. I think overall it is a good behaviour, if a bit inconvenient at times. Any fix? (Using Windoze 98, Bat! 1.45) Well, not really a fix, just a work around. See above. BTW this only happens when a thread has been expanded. If I do the same (click) on an unexpanded thread, no problems. It will happen with both. You probably notice it with the threads expanded since, in threaded view, the first column's width is variable. So you are more likely to push a column off to the right. -- Thanks for writing, Januk Aggarwal [EMAIL PROTECTED] Using The Bat! 1.46 Beta/3 under Windows 98 4.10 Build A -- -- View the TBUDL archive at http://tbudl.thebat.dutaint.com To send a message to the list moderation team double click here: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe from TBUDL, double click here and send the message: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- You are subscribed as : archive@jab.org
