I uncovered the same things you did. 8-))) After importing several
thousand messages from Outlook Express to The Bat!, I noticed that in
*some* folders, the last two letters of each post were snipped.

For instance, old archived posts from onelist.com maillists instead of
ending with

www.onelist.com

ended

www.onelist.c

My signature, Alex., came out as "Ale". And I used to correspond with
a woman whose nickname is "Cattleya" (that's an orchid), and her
signature in The Bat now reads "Cattle"! 8-)))

So I deleted all the imported messages and imported them all over
again. Once more, in those same folders as previously, the final two
letters of each post were snipped. But the great majority of folders
(let's say, 45 out of 50) were imported correctly from OE. (And I did
compress all folders in OE before exporting them.)

Finally I decided that this is a minor problem for me to get upset
about. Life goes on. 8-)) I wish, instead, that RITlabs would
finally make those damn customized window frame positions in the Bat's

embarrassing glitch in The Bat. But I don't regret having paid $ 35.

Ok, I'll be more specific. What macros are you using? It sounds like
a template problem. TB *can't* and will *not* generate a different
message for each recipient in a list. One message addressed a group
will be sent exactly as it is seen to *everyone* on that list. If you
post the macros you are using (not the personal part of the template),
we can help clear this up. I have a feeling you are trying to use
some fancy %To macro that just won't work as you intended. But if you
post part of the template, maybe we can rule out that possibility, or
find you a solution that will work as intended.

> 1. I created a group: Test
> 2. Entered 4 different users [I am neither of them].

Ok, that sounds fine. Did your other recipients receive duplicates
too? How many copies of the message are in your Sent folder? Do you
have any outgoing filters set up on this account?

> 3. Sent the message to myself with the list in the BCC.

How did you address it to yourself? Did you use the address book or
did you manually enter your address? If you used the address book, is
it possible you have multiple addresses listed in your entry?

> 4. I received 4 messages addressed to myself.

Ok, from what you've posted, it sounds like a template problem or a
mail server problem. But we do need more details before much
assistance can be provided. Are the messages *identical*? IOW, are
there any differences in the RFC-822 headers? (View -> RFC-822 Headers)

> 5. The message going to the list twice is not related, it was a
> different mail server.

Well, I get duplicate messages on this list every now and then. It
seems to be random, but given the nature of your question, it was
worth exploring.

Please post as much information as you can regarding this problem. I
can't help you if I don't know how you have things configured.
Obviously, edit the information so you're not posting personal info.
But at the same time, don't block out all information.

For example:

===Begin Template===
%Clear
Hi %BCCLIST,

Have fun,

%Subject="[List] %Subj"
%To="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
and so on
===End Template===

As you can see, the above example tells you nothing about me, but
it does show enough to see that there is a %To macro that could be
worth investigating.

How exactly are you trying to do this? As far as I know, TB itself
can not handle mail merges... About the only way I know of doing even
remotely close to what you're suggesting is to create a template in an

I can't really help you much, but for interest sake, is this the only
account accessing an IMAP account from that particular server? I'm
thinking that maybe your IMAP server isn't storing the messages in a
completely compliant way. What happens if you set up this TB account
to access a different IMAP server, is everything ok?

Good luck.

Hi BatListers,

Once or twice a day, my Receiving Mail function "sticks" on
getting new messages...the dialog box appears and the bat flies
indefinitely, but nothing else happens. Cancelling out and then
retrying will download the messages, but causes the next mail
check to re-download all messages on server (saved there for two
days). Any clues to solve this behavior? Thanks for your help.

Well, I tried the new account thing and it didn't work. Then in the dispatcher I
noticed that a lot of the dates are totally wrong. I retrieve the message in the
dispatcher and it's missing the last two chars, but I check the headers and the
dates for received (on the server) are fine. But for some reason the dates in

Do you have more than one account in TB? Pick one as your default
mailto account by checking an option in account properties. See if
that help. TB's MAPI support doesn't work with some applications
(most notably some MS applications), so please specify what
application you're using next time.

Hmmm. Actually it is. :-) You can create a filter who's search string is
'e' and location 'Kludges', meaning that it will match *any* message
based on a string search. The next thing to do is go to the advanced tab
in the filter rule configuration and enable 'Message is associated with
a colour group' and select the 'ToDo' colour group from the drop down
list. That should restrict the filtering to only messages associated with
the colour group.

On 07 November, 2000, 8:24 AM, I saw Juergen's comments made on

JS> Anyway, thanks for the hints!

I know what you mean :-), but for what it's worth, I've been using this
auto-encryption feature for a long time and it works without fail.

However, and a big 'however' at at that if you read encrypted mail
using PGP Tray's viewer, and then reply by copy and pasting the viewer
contents in the reply message, you'll definitely have to encrypt the
reply yourself. You may then prefer this method:

Place the cursor in the encrypted message body with PGP tray (and it's
hot-key feature) running.

Hit and this will display the decrypted message in a
separate viewer. Copy the desired text from it to the clipboard and then
reply to the encrypted message pasting the copied text as a quote. You
can then manually encrypt the message, as you prefer, when finished.

Note that you can avoid quoting any encrypted text by hitting
for the reply or holding down while hitting
the reply toolbar button.

This is interesting, I didn't thought about that. But I am so
suspicious that I like to see it encrypted before I click the 'send'
button...I don't want to send a businessplan unencrypted to a Hotmail
account and give my good ideas Microsoft for free :)

I would like to have a button 'encrypt and send' which shows first the
encryption as optical feedback and then sends it.

Anyway, thanks for the hints!

Even if you read the same box with the bat multiple times, it KNOWS
mail has already been read. Ie doesnt download it twice if left on
server.
I am having to track several mailboxes for customers which arent
around to read their own mail so I leave on the server, but I only get
the NEW mail, not the stuff already read so to me either the bat needs
an option to read ANY mail in the mailbox, even if already read
before, or you need to change tag to unread (no idea how to do that)
or your firest reading program shouldnt tag files as read.

However if using telnet to go in for mailreading why donot you just
grab the whole mailbox and take it to the PC to read??
I mean you likely can import the mailbox in an email program on your
system and then the server shouldnt know what you have done.

under folders, kill dupes in all folders, works great be be aware it
keeps the most recent one of a dupe and any read and deleted mails
will obviously not be detected as a dupe.

We usually handle this sort of thing off-list so as to avoid creating a
thread off the inappropriately posted message as is happening now.

JD> Why did you send it to the entire list. I hope one day you read

This likely falls on deaf ears and had no effect whatsoever. :-) It's
far more practical and less time consuming to simply hit the delete key
and move on.

I can't reproduce the problem here after doing what you describe, though
you should still report it.

Also, if you reply to the decrypted version of a message, it will be
automatically encrypted upon sending. TB! appends '(PGP Decrypted)' to
the subject of the decrypted version and this is how it knows to encrypt
the message automatically. You therefore shouldn't have to be encrypting
and signing manually in this situation. You'll actually be encrypting
twice.
