Correct. Aotuomatic filters work only for freshly incoming mail.
However, if you focus on another folder and manually invoke a filter,
it will use the focussed folder as it's source.

Aren't you a programmer? So, you know that there is always a reason.
The most likely reason is Murphy's Law. ;-)

Even funnier, as I use my login-name and not my user ID. I have done
that for as long as I use the service. And actually, for one account I
am using the alias, not the "main" name. ;-)

BTW you can use either pop.gmx.net or pop.gmx.de or pop.gmx.ch or
pop.gmx.li or pop.gmx.net or pop.gmx.at (dunno about .uk), regardless
of which top-level domain your actual email address shows.

That sounds like a symptom of filters making unintended string matches
because of two reasons:

a) The filters are not in the correct order.

b) The search strings being used are not specific enough.

I find TB!'s filtering to be highly reliable and if there is funny
behaviour amiss, I usually find the underlying cause to be one of the
above.

Filters: Change Folder

2001-03-16 Thread Dierk Haasis

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-

Hello TBUDL Members!

This may sound a bit stupid. Today I tried to make a filter for
incoming mail but not for the Inbox. The filter should be invoked
for another folder whereto another filter had already moved messages
  from the Inbox.

Well, when I tried to change the folder (down arrow) I saw that the
arrow is grayed out and the folder cannot be changed. :-(

Just to make it clear: I have to do something of this kind with my
filters as they started to act very strange lately, sorting messages
wrongly - without apparent reason. After trying to sort out
(chuckle) the mess I came up with the solution to use filters on a
  folder basis.

I think it would be a nice feature for TB!.

Why don't you use the SMTP authentification?

That's funny, since you will have two addresses (if you chose so). To
get all mail for all addresses you have, you have to log in with your
user ID. Which, BTW, I do for as long as I use the service.

Actually that works, as well as pop.mail.gmx for the POP3 Server. :o)

Thanks for the reply.

I use mail.gmx.de and pop.gmx.de - in your case mail.gmx.net
and pop.gmx.net. You know that you have to use SMTP-after-POP
(or another authentification method) with them?
