Thanks, but when I try that program, it only extracts the languages
that are already _in_ the .LNG file (the "int" file I downloaded from

Hmmm... So does it mean that we should worry about every folder move

If you haven't access to your SMTP server configuration (especially to
the so-called "blacklist") and you don't or cannot use procmail then you
can filter out the most offending spammers not by the e-mail addresses
they have used (and forged) but by blocking the IP address or hostname
of the message originator.

Are you sure? If we're speaking in POP3 protocol terms then two separate
(and probably consequent) POP sessions cannot share some data on the
server side. If your MUA has issued a DELE command then
the message(s) marked will be actually deleted by processing the QUIT
command or the deletion flag will be reset by the RSET command.

If we're talking about the client side (MUA) then you're right.

Gerry, that spam filter should be the very last filter in your list, with

Would it be possible to consider adding multiple color quote levels it

Yes. I reported this bug recently and some fixes have been introduced
for it in the latest beta versions.

To get round the problem try the following:

1). Import the 4 folders.
2). Exit TB (to save the new folder config).
3). Open TB
4). Move the folders
5). Exit TB (to save the changed folder config).
6). Open TB

This sequence should keep the new layout intact. It's importing and
moving in one hit that causes the problem I think.

Did you checked the (sub)folder properties, if there are no purge options
set? Maybe a good idea to compare it with other folders.

Did you also checked the real directory structure on your HD? A week
ago I was playing with a folder that I by accident had set to a
non-default path. So I changed it that back to default and after
restartingTheBat, *all* my folders were empty.

After taking a deep breath I found out that The Bat had moved all the
folders/messages (incl. inbox, outbox) to the sub folder (on my
hard disk) where I had changed the properties. When I moved all the
folders back to the root of my account (in explorer) and restarted The Bat! all was
fine, except the mentioned sub folder who was empty, although it was
available on my hard disk.

The solution was to delete the sub folder in The Bat! and recreate it and all was fine
:-).

Do a copy of the folder tree in explorer before you start to play
with it.

Hopefully my experience can be helpful for you.

Funny but true story!

2001-05-03 Thread Gerry Doyon

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello Bat! folk!

I just thought I'd share a humorous story with you all in the hopes
that some people will not make the mistake I did.

I, and probably everyone else on this planet, despises spam. I know it
is not possible to get rid of it completely but there are some steps
that you can take to get rid of at least SOME of it.

What did I do? I made a handy-dandy filter whose rules were:

- - Monitor the Inbox for message that do NOT have my e-mail address
anywhere in the message and send it immediately to the trash can,
setting the READ flag in the process.

Sounds good so far? I thought so too! Here's the funny part. I put my
new SPAM filter at the top of ALL my other filters so that it was the
first filter to run. Don't get the joke yet? Well, I am addicted to
this e-mail list as well as several others. An hour or more
goes by and I don't have a single new message for ANY of the lists
that I subscribe to, yet, I keep hearing the "ding" from the Bat!
saying I got new mail. Hey, my new filter must be really hauling away
the "trash"!

Yep, ALL of my lists e-mail was being sent directly to the trash bin
because the messages do not contain my e-mail address! Doh!

So, I slid my new "SPAM" filter below the list filters that move the
mail to their associated folders. All is well!

So, the moral of this story is that to create filters is good, but to
put the filter in the appropriate order is even better!

Have a great day! :-)

Losing imported messages?

2001-05-03 Thread Kitty

I've been using TB for almost a year. On Monday, I imported 4
folders of messages from Outlook Express. These were archives of a
mailing list that someone using Outlook Express had saved. She sent
me 4 zipped files with the messages in Outlook Express. I unzipped
the files then imported into 4 sub-folder in TB. I looked at the
messages and they were fine and I did some work with them Monday.
I then moved all 4 folders into another folder.

Well, yesterday, I went to look at some of the messages and the
messages weren't there. I looked around the 4 folders (which I had
moved) were back where I had moved them from, but the folders were
empty. I tried to browse deleted messages and nothing was there.

So, I imported the messages again. Again, they were fine. I put the
messages in a folder with 4 sub-folders. I then moved the folder
(with the four subfolders) to be inside of another sub-folder.
Everything worked fine.

I shut down my computer last night (it is a notebook I use daily).
Now the messages are gone again.

Any thoughts on what is going on? Obviously the messages are getting
deleted when I shut my computer down but I don't know why.

It really is no problem for me. When you have a connection faster than
ISDN (64k) The Bat is very fast with downloading the headers. Okay
when you receive 300 messages per day, it could be problem. On the
other hand, when you receive a great amount of messages and you have
to filter them and move them to your trash folder, it will also take
some time.

I think complaining to the sender's provider and do a selective download
will be the best solution. The problem also is that *spammers* use
different e-mail addresses every time to send their *spam*. So some
*spam* will always come through.

My father was totally surprised when he saw the Bat! on my PC. He

Psion. I said no, but is there no other way to synchronize with the

If you have control of your server...it can easily be done from there.

As someone suggested on this list, and he was right, using the
selective download filters could be a large time consuming
operation. It involves retrieving all the message headers first
and then download only the ones that have passed the filtering.
On a volume of 200-300 emails a day, this could take a LOT of
time.

Plus: be *very* sure to make good backups. If something
crashes and you need to reinstall, the Dell recovery CD will
simply create a clean system. Oops. All data gone.

No. What that option does is mark the message for deletion from the server
on your next POP check for messages. This is a useful action only for
those who normally leave messages on the server after download and wish to
delete particular messages automatically.

After d'l to your machine, TB! can automatically filter them directly
into the Trash folder.

One way would be to ask the ISP to incorporate some filtering system
(as does GMX, and not that bad).

Another would be manual: Use the Mail Dispatcher of TB! to delete
messages directly on the server without d'l them.
