I have a similar SPAM filter, with more-or-less the same rule--
however, I have it deliver the messages into a folder called
"SPAM" -- messages in this folder are only allowed a life span of
a day or two -- so, I can go through the folder and see if
anything was intercepted that shouldn't be - but don't have to
bother deleting everything in it manually.

GD> Hello Bat! folk!

GD> I just thought I'd share a humorous story with you all in the hopes
GD> that some people will not make the mistake I did.

GD> I, and probably everyone else on this planet, despises spam. I know it
GD> is not possible to get rid of it completely but there are some steps
GD> that you can take to get rid of at least SOME of it.

GD> What did I do? I made a handy-dandy filter whose rules were:

GD> - - Monitor the Inbox for message that do NOT have my e-mail address
GD> anywhere in the message and send it immediately to the trash can,
GD> setting the READ flag in the process.

GD> Sounds good so far? I thought so too! Here's the funny part. I put my
GD> new SPAM filter at the top of ALL my other filters so that it was the
GD> first filter to run. Don't get the joke yet? Well, I am addicted to
GD> this e-mail list as well as several others. An hour or more
GD> goes by and I don't have a single new message for ANY of the lists
GD> that I subscribe to, yet, I keep hearing the "ding" from the Bat!
GD> saying I got new mail. Hey, my new filter must be really hauling away
GD> the "trash"!

GD> Yep, ALL of my lists e-mail was being sent directly to the trash bin
GD> because the messages do not contain my e-mail address!!!!! Doh!

GD> So, I slid my new "SPAM" filter below the list filters that move the
GD> mail to their associated folders. All is well!

GD> So, the moral of this story is that to create filters is good, but to
GD> put the filter in the appropriate order is even better!

GD> Have a great day! :-)
