Feature request-shutdown

2001-05-18 Thread Brandt

Hello tbUDL,

When you close the bat, the
bat begins by compressing folders. If selected. This can take a bit of
time.
I would like to see the accounts automatically closed, visually
at least.
This prevents over-da-shoulder snooping. I realize that you can
close each account, but I want to hit alt-x and have the mail windows
blank out, then go into shutdown.

Your focus must be on the source folder, other the folder which is
focussed will be re-filtered.

  Have you considered the following:

create a QT that includes %bcc= "your address"
name the QT 'bcc' or whatever & whenever you feel like using
it just type 'bcc' & 'CTRL Enter'. That should insert the bcc
into the msg.

Filtering broken in 1.52c?

2001-05-18 Thread Kiyan Azarbar

Well, I seem to have screwed up my mailbox and I'm sure it's not my fault.

I used my trusty old mail filter, which moves messages from a certain
folder TO THE SAME FOLDER, but I have the "delete on server" checked, and I
have it mark messages a certain color so I know they're deleted. I ran this
rule by using a hotkey, and the messages all disappeared. I noticed that
they went from folder Correspondence\School to folder Correspondence\GF.
But the rule clearly stated to go from School to School.

So then I go into the GF folder and make a rule not to delete, but to just
move all messages without a certain sender (GF) in the header, back to
Correspondence\School. I re-filter the folder, and guess what? ALL the mail
from GF and School are now in my inbox. I am sure I am using the filters
right. Could it be a bug with this bat version? I think it's 1.52c, let's
see here. Well, I can't tell it just says 1.52. Please, if anyone has had
bad filtering problems like this let me know! Thanks.

IOW this fitler is moving your messages to trash if they come from

Which will be true for all messages from that list.

I'm not sure I know what you mean when you "right-click the account that
the rule applies to"? You have to right click the Inbox in question, and
then make the choice to re-filter messages, remembering to choose only
read messages. I think the dialogue in question defaults to "Incoming

Yes - that would solve the issue of needing to add unique characters

So - all I need to know now is how to write a macro to automatically

I could never get that memo to pop up whenever that message was selected

Is that not what "memo autoview" is supposed to mean?

Filter Mystery

2001-05-18 Thread hysterial

I can’t figure out why my filter isn’t working. I need to take all
‘read’ messages from one specific author, export them to a text file,
and delete them from my local mailbox.

Here’s what I’ve set for the rule:

- Sorting Rule: read messages
- Source Folder: inbox
- Move Messages To Folder: inbox
- Strings: [author's address] / sender / yes
- Rule Is: manual only

Here's what I checked under the Actions tab:

- delete the message
- export message to file (append to / tried both existant and
non-existant files)

...and I have no other settings for this filter. It just doesn't work.
I right-click the account that the rule applies to, and choose to
filter "Read Messages". I get the confirmation: " (x) messages
processed; 0 messgages filtered ".

Any ideas?

A bit of both.

It is easily configurable by setting the "Persistent blocks" and
"Overwrite blocks" settings in the editor preferences.

The "bit of a bug" is that I have no idea on earth as to why the
setting of these options should have been changed by performing an
upgrade.

It seems that the default behaviour of the editor was changed

questions

2001-05-18 Thread Agustin E. Bolzan

Does anyone knows how the birthday reminder works?. When I put the
date of a birthday for a contact in the AB nothing happens.

Other question:

I was trying to use the new macro %IF as follows:

%IF:"%ABTOGender"="Male":"Estimado":"Estimada" %ABTONamePrefix %TONAME

but when using the template, the editor always put "Estimada", i.e.
seems that the gender is not correctly read. Any clue about this? (I
know that this is a feature of the new bat 1.53 beta6, but I noticed
that several users in the list use this new beta).

1.52f driving me nuts!

2001-05-18 Thread Phillip Winn

TBUDL -

I just upgraded from 1.46d to 1.52f, and I am about to go crazy! I will soon
be switch back to 1.46d unless someone can tell me that this new behavior can
be stopped!

Previously, when composing a message, TB! worked much like any other windows
program. I could hold down the shift key and use my arrow keys to extend a
selection. Once I had a selection, I could type, which would overwrite the
selected text, or hit backspace or delete, which would delete the selected
text, or paste in new text, which would also replace the selected text. If I
moved the text cursor at all, the selection was canceled.

Now, after the upgrade, everything is changed, and *not* for the better. I can
still use shift to select text, but now when I type new text, the text is
simply typed in at the current cursor position, and the selected text remains
selected. If I change my mind and move the text cursor, the selected text
remains selected. If I hit backspace or delete, the character immediately to
the left or right of the text cursor is removed, but the selected text remains
selected. If I paste in text, it is pasted in at the current text cursor
position, but the selected text remains, and remains selected. If I type, my
text is added to the message, and if the text cursor is within or at the end
of the selected text, my newly typed text is *also* selected.

It seems that the keyboard shortcut is no longer a shortcut, because now after
selecting text, I must hit Ctrl-X to accomplish what used to happen
automatically.

Is this configurable, or just a bug?

No. The alternative rules kill my "comeback" messages from TB lists.
The main rule has nothing in common (filtering-wise) with the
alternative rules except that I put all those mailing list kills in
one filter instead of creating unnecessary filters.

It is a time consuming task, what Catalin proposed was something
to skip an unwanted message on sight, thus saving time. I use
my mail account to get apps from the inet, some friends of mine
are nice enough to provide them for me while I have e-mail
access only. I used the Mail Dispatcher a few times but with
200->400 msgs from various lists, using that think is a PITA, it
takes forever to download the headers even on a fast dial-up
connection of 4Kbps.

Hi Dierk,

as I understand it, it's the alternative rule that sends all PGP-Basics
messages to trash. They all have the list's acronym in their kludges. You
might try to cancel the alternative.

I still think that the Mail Dispatcher is exactly made for this. Look
at the headers, choose the messages you want to delete (maybe together
with a time set to leave messages on server) and then d'l the messages

Well, the first requirement is for there to be messages on the server.
If you don't use the "Leave messages on the server" settings in some
way then nothing will happen.

If you have messages on the server, open the Message Dispatcher
(dispatch all messages on the server) and a window will open listing
all messages available on the server. This is done by the dispatcher
retrieving the message headers.

The Message Dispatcher gives you a number of check box options per
message which include [ ] Download and [ ] Delete. Mark the messages
you want download and/or deleted and then finally execute these
selections with the "Start Transfer" button.

I wouldn't create that filter if I were you. This means that any message
BCC'd to you will be deleted from the server. These messages will include

subscription messages.

String: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Location: Recipient
Presence: No
Action: Delete

Be careful, the message will be really deleted. A better way is to
mark it read and move it to trash.

Of course, you are using The Bat! :-) Just try

Hi %ABofromFIRSTNAME="%OFROMFNAME",

or even

Hi %ABofromHANDLE='%ABofromFIRSTNAME="%OFROMFNAME"',

if you use the Address Book's Handle field for nicknames.
