Send Queue Mail for ALL in automatic

2001-10-05 Thread JACK

TheBAT! 1.53d / W98

Hi

I have two accounts on TheBats!, one admin (the server) and one
user. When the admin connect automaticaly every hour, it does NOT
send all the mail but only the admin mail. Everything in the outbox of
user still stay in his outbox, except if I do manually :Send Queue
Mail for All (Shift Alt F2).

Any options to configure this by default ?

Thanks for your help.

Correct. Think of your DUN - set up like written - as the *only*
connection. It has nothing to do with the cable.

You see, even if most of us may use addresses given out by our ISP's
this actually has nothing to do with the connection itself. Only when
relaying is not allowed.

Example: I here use one of my GMX addresses, they don't offer dial-up,
so I my connection has nothing to do with my ISP. Now, if I'd use
another From address trying to send through GMX, it would not work,
not because my ISP don't want it but because GMX don't want it.

So I left my DUN settings exactly as above *except* I
changed the SMTP setting to reflect the cable modem SMTP
setting. The I sent 2 test msgs to TBUDL (with apologies
to the list). They went out, showed up in the sent folder
but were slow to upload I get an error beep (could be
because there was nothing to rcv).

I saw them.

   I've changed this from
   'workstation w TCP/IP' -- 'TCP/IP or dial out server'
And that's how I'm going to send out this msg.

Since your message reached me, this is OK.

Dierk 5a. For mailing lists - which depend on your correct e-mail address -
Dierk you will have to make do with your slow DUN, hope that you can use the
Dierk subscription address with the other ISP or re-subscribe.

This is what I'm trying to get around. If by changing the
DUN settings to include the cable modem SMTP I don't see
why I shouldn't be able to leave all the addresses as they
were with the original subscriptions. The cable side
doesn't seem to have a 'relay' problem.

Well, your message was received. And if you are able to read this,
everything should be alright.

If you still have the error beep, we have to sort that out separately.
Perhaps there is a bug or something else.

No, I canno't do like this, because the admin is connecting 5 minutes every
hours (saving money). If the user try to send its mail when the admin is not
connected, the mail will stay in his Outbox. Or maybe we need a very
good synchronisation (or maybe some luck) so that both account are

It must be another answer.

I was trying to put a filter on Outgoing mail to move everything from

Sure it must exist an answer ;-)

trying to download his mail via his Cable POP3 Server, but send out via

using his Dial-Up Accounts address?

He mentioned that he was aware of being able to simply re-subscribe
under a new address with his Cable Account, but he was looking for a
compromise. My question is why? Would it not make more sense using
one's Cable Modem instead of trying to fiddle with a Dial-Up Account,
which in my case is 400% slower. shrug

You're lucky - you're using The Bat!, so you only have to press
Ctrl-Alt-Shift-L. Then uncurl your now twisted fingers and explore the
folders that have been found. SecureBat! doesn't have that
available. There were circumstances under which TB (and SB) lost track
of folder movement and therefore lost the message bases involved.

The snag with the C-A-S-L keystroke is that sub-accounts get added as
folders too then there's a real headache trying to unravel them.

You might find it better to exit TB and use explorer to find the
missing .tbb and .tbi files and copy them to where they should be.

IMHO both accounts should connect at the same time, when you check
'connect at startup' and enter the same period, but if you're not sure
about that, try this:

Make a batchfile sendall.bat with this content:

c:\thebat\thebat.exe /check*
c:\thebat\thebat.exe /send*

Make an entry in your Windows Scheduler (or whatever it's called in
the English version) to run the sendall.bat every hour at a given
time. Don't bother any more with periodical checking in your account
setup, because you're doing that from now in the scheduler.

BTW To get rid of the finished tasks without any effort, in the
explorer: right mouse click on sendall.bat, choose properties,
program tab, and check close on exit.

Good hunting.

That sounds more like a Crappy Dial-up as Thomas called it. I have
to admit that Germany has a very good infrastructure concerning
communication lines - i.e. all our lines and connecting exchanges are
digital - so I have never had much trouble with my connection as such.

I can only try.

His main concern seems to be that he is testing cable modem for two
weeks and doesn't know if he will stick to this ISP/cable. So, he
doesn't want to unsub his old address, resub with the new address, and
perhaps eventually unsub the cable address and resub hie old address.

That is why I use a freemail service for mailing lists: If anything
changes with my ISP or Web hosting service or my domains (I've got
three with the ability to have about 100 POP3 e-mail addresses and
infinite forwarding addresses), I don't have to go through endless
unsub-resub processes.

As a complication, one of his ISP's (DUN) does not allow relaying as
an anti-spam measure.

His sending problem seems to be solved now, since all his mails came
through.

Hopefully I could clear up the situation slightly?!

No, this is not always correct. Please check out View / Thread by ...
You will see that one option is Thread by Subject, but you would
choose this only if the mailer the person uses does not know about
internet standards (for example Microsoft Outlook under MS-Exchange).
Better email programs, such as The Bat!, will use references.

Example: This message here has the following references in the header:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

This shows your mail to which I initially replied, then my reply, then
your reply to mine. With this, TB can Thread by References. Chose this
option in the View menu item of the View Folder window, and you will
see how easy it is to say which message is a reply to which.

How to generate these references? Very easy: Hit the reply key instead
of creating a new message. ;-)

Does anyone have opinions to share on whether attachments should be
kept a part of the message or stored in a separate directory? I've
always heard that the system is more secure by having attachments
stored in the message, but I'm beginning to think that my system is
fairly secure anyway, and that I can move my messages to Zoot on
occasion without all the code from the attachment if I use a separate
directory. I don't know if this matters, but regardless of whether I
use Zoot, I usually move my messages from the inbox to special
folders, and then archive them in Unix-style (.mbx) mailboxes. Any
suggestions?

Doesn't really matter. Do what makes you feel comfortable.

I keep them in the messages, that way I get rid of them in three
months, unless it's something special.
Usually important are stored on a place that makes sense when I want
to retrieve them and that's not in my messagebase.
Files that are thought to be unsafe are killed by my mailserver's
virusscanner. So that's of no importance to me.

the following in regards to 'TB! V1.54 Beta/9 - cable

[...] can you explain to me what Jan is trying to do, as
I've been trying to follow the thread but I am completely

Undoubtedly that's a reflection of my total ignorance.
Dierk has been extremely helpful patient with me.

   I'm sorry that I'm confusing everyone w my problem(s).

Its true I don't want to change my subs during this 2
month cable trial period. But I also think I should be
able to use the cable to u/l d/l to both accounts
   using my original FROM: addy.

It's sort of working now (with some bugs) but I feel
that's because of serendipity rather than because I
   understand what's going on.

For ex, should TB ! options -- networking be set up as one
kind of client for one account a different type of
   client for the other account?

Should the transport settings for each account be totally
independent? I reasoned that if I set DUN SMTP settings to
reflect the DUN server, won't that account be looking for
a dial up modem connection to upload msgs? Right now I
have the dial up acct SMTP settings set for the cable
modem, i.e. 'mail' while the POP3 setting reflects the
   DUN settings.

My FROM: addy is set @ [EMAIL PROTECTED] on both
   accounts to accommodate my subscriptions.

Its sort of working but I don't understand why that's
what I'm trying to sort out. And auto d/l seems to hang on the
DUN POP3 side I'm trying to figure out if I should set
periodic downloads for both accounts or just the cable
   acct?

Or maybe this is all wrong I should start all over
again. Everything was so simple transparent with the
one DUN service the one account.

The cable is wonderful when it's working -- the service
seems to fluctuate quite a bit I can see the day when
it's going to die I'll still want to communicate w the
outside world. My ISP will remain a backup.

Dierk three with the ability to have about 100 POP3 e-mail addresses and
Dierk infinite forwarding addresses), I don't have to go through endless
Dierk unsub-resub processes.

This sounds like a logical solution. How would this work

How would I retrieve answer all my posts via the cable

I don't want to turn of PGP's wrapping because it would mean that I
have to keep switching it on and off for other things I use it for,
such as newsreaders.

I have set my PGP wrap to 72 and TB! to 70 so let's see if it works
this time. Melissa gave me me her wrap settings for everything which
is what I have been using up until now with no problems.
I have just had a reformat which means all my previous settings were
lost and I just can't seem to find where I filed them away! Anyway,
her suggestion was to have TB! wrap set to 2 characters LESS than PGP,
so that is what I have
done.
