JD Thanks

2002 does not have a configurable virtual pop server and no mail
accounts need any changes to them. Other changes include outbound
email scanning, greater flexibility in specifying file extensions for
autoprotect and background update checks. These are the only
advantages over 2001 as far as I can see and I can live without them
for the sake of autodeleting infected mail.

You may want to try the latest official version instead (1.53d). It's
better, offers much more functionality, quicker etc.

Please notice that there was a change in the message base format going
from 1.41 - 1.42, so you can either reinstall TB if you don't have
too much messages in it yet, or first download 1.42, let it convert
the message bases, then install 1.53d.

My office is my lap top. I don't want any one to get access to my mail.

Any positive or negative comments about secure bat is appreciated

 (1) Don't forget to take your iKey with you.

 (2) I have found it slightly slower than The Bat! but then it does have to
 decrypt the mail base .

I put up a feature request that the .TBB (message base) files are, by
default, encrypted (using a simple algorithm; something powerful but
slow isn't what's needed); at the moment they are effectively in plain
text.

That, plus the existing startup password, would provide good enough
security for most people, I think, without the cast-iron SmartBat!

On encrypting chunks of the hard disk: there are two classic
applications. I used the first in an earlier incarnation, and it
worked brilliantly; it is also reasonably cheap.

Also, a point I made during the thread was that if you can get

2002-02-24 Thread Dave Conroy

SK There are a number of ways to encrypt filesystems or parts
SK thereof that offer more general utility. I question why you
SK would spend the money on something that only protects your
SK e-mail.

While not a direct answer to the original post, I tried to use
the PGP approach several months back and not a single client
could install it. It is a pain for most people and not worth the
trouble. Before I am flamed by the die hard element, I say for
MOST people.

So, I shifted over to EasyCrypto (free) which means I can write
up stuff in Word, or whatever, and then have it encrypted. I then
send it along as an attachment. At the other end, a client can
open up easily as we have agreed a password together from the
outset.

http://www.handybits.com/easycrypto.htm

No one has complained since and people are enthusiastic about
using it. Easycrypto doesn't need a List to work out how to use
it either ;-)

With best wishes,

You haven't got to do any special. If you don't trust 1.53d to
correctly update your installation, then first make a backup of the
Bat! directory and the registry entries - but I'd be surprised if it
were needed.

Pure bloat because it's not required. There are many Programs out there

spam on the rise

 Hello Everyone,
Spam attacks are on the rise, jumping some 46 percent since

I haven't. But then, I am pretty careful about two things: 1) where
