 Mutt: http://www.mutt.org/

Yeah, I knew that. :) I use Mutt on Linux all the time. Sylpheed is a
great email client on Linux but see on Linux there's plenty of
alternatives to mail clients and evolution is pretty good IMHO.

On Windows is where the problem lies. It's hard to find a decent mail
client. I just tried Sylpheed-Claws Sylpheed and they both got stuck
trying to sync 900+ messages. Maybe I should just delete 90% of them :)

After trying IMAP for months, I prefer to use POP instead of IMAP
and I put all of my mail folder on network drive (I did this
since TB! 1.1x). Now I am running multi O/S, so I need mailer which
run on multi O/S too. By sharing mail folder, I can switch from one
O/S to another in my LAN without need to redownload mail from
server. I can also share the address book, while filtering procmail
doing the job well.

Sylpheed use MH format, and happily now Mutt also support MH, so
when I travel I can login to my own server using shell account and
run Mutt.

Miguel,

Normally I'd answer 'yes.' In this case, though, I would agree with
the option only if (and, thinking about it, this is the better choice)
the default were that the tickler is disabled, not enabled. The
danger, it seems to me, is too great that a user--either
unsophisticated or just busy--will click the tickler to open a package
that has actually been quarantined. Although a good AV program might
keep the package from opening, it's still an unnecessary risk.

Well, I can imagine situations that make it a plus to be able to alert
oneself immediately when you're receiving suspect mails.
Especially when you're running a support function on your work or your
LAN. In such a case you'd like to be the first to be notified when
someone in your department starts spreading viruses.

So the present situation is perfect, you can decide for yourself.

 Yes. Use AB Macro: %ABToMemo

The Bat! _cannot_ evaluate custom variables.
You _can't_ set 'own variables' in The Bat!, in fact it does not even
provide variables itself, only 'functions that might print out the one
or the other variable value', called 'macros'.

So the only thing you can do is something like (or similar to):

%SETPATTREGEXP='(?is)^group=(.*?)$'%REGEXPMATCH='%ABToMemo'

to insert the groups name.

%UCFIRST=%SETPATTREGEXP='(?is)^group=(.*?)$'%REGEXPMATCH='%ABToMemo'

for inserting it with capital first letter, regardless how it's written
in memo field and

%LANG=%SETPATTREGEXP='(?is)^lang=(.*?)$'%REGEXPMATCH='%ABToMemo'

to set spelling language automatically.

Hi Peter,
What is the setting of the language based on?
I write emails in 3 languages and I would love to have it select the
right spelling language by it self.

Hi,

are there any other mail clients for Windows that handle IMAP well

Did you look at Mulberry (http://www.cyrusoft.com/) yet? Here's a
comparison of IMAP clients: http://www.ncsu.edu/imap/clientgrid.html

Wow! No, i didn't! Well, i have now since you mentioned it :-)
I'm very impressed. It works so well with IMAP and has many features.
Still, I rather the configuration menus in The Bat! but at least you got me
away from Outlook! woohoo! :-) Now to find some $$$ to get a Mulberry
license.. hehehe :)

Thanks Markus!

Except for the quarantine folder that's the case here too.

Filter that will *leave a message on the server

2002-10-11 Thread Graham Connolly
Hi all,

I need to create a filter that will leave a message on the server if
it meets certain criteria.

I need to do this as I use TB! at work and have it delete all messages
off the server. However, any meeting requests I get need to be done
via Outlook, so I need to jump back into Outlook when I get the
meeting request via TB! and download the meeting request message again
so that it will go into my Outlook Calendar.

Any guidance on how to achieve this is most appreciated.

Cheers

Graham

Addressbook

2002-10-11 Thread Adam
I added an address to addressbook. And was puzzled to look in the
addressbook and not find it there. But, I think it put it in some
other group. I'm not sure why it would.

I had this a few times running under Win98SE on my previous system -
P233 + 163MB RAM + 2MB Graphics card - I put it down to shortage of
video memory rather than a RAM problem. When I upgraded to an 8MB
Graphics card the problem disappeared. Could this be a factor with
your system perhaps?
