LJ I would backup, uninstall, delete the registry keys and then reinstall

Hello Carsten,

 - On the Properties General tab, include a From and Reply-To address
with a fake domain that you know does not exist. This fake domain is the
one that will be used to build MIDs and you can then filter on it.

No, please don't do that. If you want to be part of USENET then you
 should follow the rules.

Why not Carsten? What I suggested is so that MIDs will be unique to
_his_ messages and then he can use this fake domain in his filters to
look for replies to him and threads that he is involved in. Nothing to
do about spam, etc., because he can still use his real address in From
and Reply-To.

I don't suppose you have that RegEx worked out already?

OK, I find this a bit of a puzzle. Can you explain the full filter
here for me (The Original Technically Challenged One!) i.e where
should this filter sort to, etc?

You may have seen that I replied to Roel that I basically do the same.
So, I will explain my solution.

Consider three newsgroups or, in general, 3 addresses: A, B and C. And
three folder FolderA, FolderB and FolderC where you what to sort
messages respectively. Obviously, if a message has been sent to A and B
you want to sort a copy to FolderA and FoldrB. This is my set up:

Filter A: IF A is in Recipient
 Move from Inbox to Inbox
Copy to Folder A (Set in Actions tab)
Continue processing with other filters (Set in Options)
Filter B: IF B is in Recipient
 Move from Inbox to Inbox
 Copy to Folder B
  Continue processing with other filters
Filter C: IF C is in Recipient
 Move from Inbox to Inbox
 Copy to Folder C
  Continue processing with other filters
Delete ABC: If A or B or C in Recipient (use Alternatives tab)
Delete the message (set in Actions tab).

Hope that is what you were asking for.

Not unless you're using a multi-user system on Win2k/XP.

You could logon as another user, install v2, log back into your usual
user space then run version 2 using the runas command. The runas command
is in the right click context menu for the v2 executable. It will bring
up a dialog asking for the user and password. It will then start using
the registry information for the other user.

 Not unless you're using a multi-user system on Win2k/XP.

I'll be getting new PC with XP soon, but right now am still using 98SE.
Since it's all or nothing, what do I need to do to be able to go back to
1.6x if need be?

Hi Thomas and list,

On Sunday, September 14, 2003 at 23:26:03 GMT +0700 (which was 18:26
where I live) Thomas Fernandez wrote (at least in parts) and made
these valuable points on the subject of MyGate, newsgroups with TB
made easy:

I used to use port 25, but the helpfile says I should use the same
port as defined for the Gate, so I use port 110. Still no success.

 What am I doing wrong?

There is a port number entry in the SMTP - NNTP (likewise in POP -
NNTP) gate configuration. You can enter any _unused_ port on your
machine. You have to enter _this_ port in The Bat!'s SMTP port. 25
will work fine as long as you don't habe another program which is
listening on port 25 at localhost.

Due to AV (PCCillin), Spampal, GPGRelay which handle my
incoming/outgoing mails i decided to use 1700 / 1701 for MyGate.

Why not do a full system backup now and then upgrade.

If you don't like what's happening, then restore your old installation.
If you're only using POP accounts then simply reinstalling v1.62 over v2
should be OK. However, keep a backup for prosperity.

I am no sure, I haven't tried this, but it may be possible to perhaps,
setup a quick template to differentiate a non-news email from
news-emails and then setup an outgoing filter that would note that
difference, catch that email, and move it to your other account's
outbox.

Maybe.

Empty the account's Reply-To. That solves more problems than it
causes. The Reply-To is only needed when you'd like the answer to be
addressed to another address than the From address.
Most of the time you'd like the reply to go to the From address you're
using, so that's a reason to use the Reply-To in those exceptional
cases that you prefer a reply to a different address.
Apart from that, some lists use the convention that when you set a
Reply-To address in your messages that the listserver won't insert
it's own address in the Reply-To. In that case you'd get only private
answers to your questions.

It's also possible to set the Reply-To to the same address as your
From address by inserting this in your templates:
%ReplyTo=%FromAddr%-

As a last resort you can change the Reply-To address on a per folder
or per message base by changing it in the same way you changed your
From-address
