For the text above I have a QT! I have written all with Polish characters and today I
have seen that the characters have not been anymore there! Why? Therefore I wrote it
once more!

> Do you manage to type Polish in other applications?

I have only problems with templates and addressbooks! I can wirte Polish characters in
eMails and I can see them there. I'm also in the Polish lista dyskusyjna! Because I
live now in Poland I write many in this language though I must learn many in this
matter. My wife is from Poland but she don't speak German! With Word I don't have
problems!

I only wrote in the mailinglist concerning this matter, because I think that it is
very necessary. Ritlabs is in Moldavia and they normally must know this. I wrote about
this problems more than 2 years.

Do you have Polish names in your addressbook and do you get the Polish letters in it,
when you write to one? I, not! I see then only for example "Kudlacik" and not
"Kudłacik" or "Rafal" and not "Rafał"!

I have written to you personally, because I think, that "Polish language" is not
interesting for the people in the lists.

Yes but I also have all the email that I delteted back again. It's an

Filter question

2004-07-04 Thread M i c C u l l e n
G'day all,

A question to which I have not been able to find an answer. (One of the MANY that I
would have no answers to if it were not for this list, as the documentation is
seriously sub-standard, especially given what a terrific program it is.)

I filter all of my tbudl email into one folder. Some of the emails I keep (park), and
every so often I move the parked emails into a sub-folder called (imaginatively) -
'keep'.

What I would like to do is have the program automatically move the parked messages
into the folder after a certain length of time. (Say, five days.)

In the 'advanced' tab of the filter I can tell it only to work if the message is
parked, read and over 4 days old, but I have some difficulties:

1) what triggers the filter?

2) When running the filter manually, sometimes it moves the messages but sometimes it
copies them, which is a major problem.

I have nothing in the filter string, rule is active, I am confused.

Answers gratefully accepted...

(As an aside, the organisation of filters in TheBat! leaves a LOT to be desired as
well. Coming from Agent, where filter management was simple and clear, it was
something of a shock to find that such powerful filters were so difficult to keep
organised.)

I understand what you are saying. My only point was that (1)TB is not
designed to be a graphic HTML editor. It has some basic tools and that
is it. (2) For fancier work, an external (not just MS Office
components) program will be necessary. Whether one chooses to use
Word, Excel, Open Office, Star Office or something else isn't the
point. I, for one, am not going to write HTML to facilitate table
design in TB.

I am no expert, but I think Thomas is correct here. Unfortunately this
doesn't appear to be a viable option per
http://www.annerykiln.co.uk/thebat.txt.

Richard may have given good advice per
mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED], however I see you have a
problem per your #15 on http://www.annerykiln.co.uk/thebat.txt.

I am no expert on TB backup tool, but when using TB backup tool have you
tried *only* selecting the following:

1 Folder with Messages

2 Address Books

3 Attachment Files

On your http://www.annerykiln.co.uk/thebat.txt you talk about a "BackUp
application" and do not state what it is, but mention the problem of
NTFS file access which sounds like a permissions problem. Whatever you
use for a backup and restore option are you doing it from an admin
account?

Thinking out loud and not being an XP expert it almost sounds like the
permissions are getting messed up with the backup application. If you
are using limited accounts to access TB on different machines, does the
NTFS permissions carry forward to the restored directories? If yes and
the limited accounts have different names, then this may be what is
causing the problem. Whatever!

You can't do that automatically, however you could do that by
triggering the filter manually.

MIC> 1) what triggers the filter?

The conditions of the filter (in the first place)
Combined with the message being received, read or answered (depending
on the filter) these are bypassed by executing the filter manually.

MIC> 2) When running the filter manually, sometimes it moves the
MIC> messages but sometimes it copies them, which is a major problem.

That's because your messages are parked, being parked means that they
won't be deleted, so moving ends in copying as the message appears in
the keep-folder but 'forgets' to disappear in the source folder.

Maybe it'll help if you set the filter to unpark the message.

MIC> (As an aside, the organisation of filters in TheBat! leaves

Though I've used Agent only for news, I must say that I've never
really understood Agent's filtering mechanisms. I suppose it's part of
TB's filtering strength that the filters are executed in the order you
place them. As for keeping them organised, I'm using a couple of dummy
filters to divide my sorting office in sections, they're filters with
an impossible condition, like in
recipient, but as names they're using long strings as this:
" Mailinglists **"
That means that while browsing through the sorting office I easily
find my filters for mailing lists, for AB filters, etc

AntiVirus / X Header Question

2004-07-04 Thread Mike Dillinger
Hello,

I used to run Symantec AntiVirus on my PC. I recently uninstalled it
and moved to AVG so I could utilize The Bat! plugin.

When I send a message, I still get this header for outbound mail:
X-Virus-Scanned: Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine

I have uninstalled Symantec completely (LiveReg, LiveUpdate, NAV, etc).
Yet I still see this header.

I'm thinking it's hard coded somewhere? If so, where can I change this?
If it's not hard coded, does anyone know why my AVG plugin isn't adding
the proper text to the message header?

It's possible that your ISP has Symantec on their server - you seem to be

Ah, pain. OK, can I set all my manual filters to the same hotkey to trigger them? (I
can then surely find a way to get my macro program to trigger them - annoying, but a
solution...)

Thanks, but I meant what makes it trigger automatically, like it being midnight, or
the like, not the filter conditions. Languages are fun :-)

Very annoying, given that I've told the filter to MOVE the PARKED messages - it's
pretty explicit.

Roelof> Maybe it'll help if you set the filter to unpark the message.

Then it'll move everything over the age limit, not just the parked messages, as
they'll no longer be parked? I need to test this later today with a dummy folder and
copied messages.

Very elegant, really - filters have a priority of 1-1000, and the closer to 1000 the
number is, the higher up the list it is, and the earlier it is executed.

Roelof> I suppose it's part of

Same as Agent.

Roelof> " Mailinglists **"
Roelof> That means that while browsing through the sorting office I easily

Seriously clunky work around, though. (Although I might have to adopt it :-)

The other advantage of Agent's filters are that they are in a normal resizable window,
not just a tiny box, and they're searchable, which is a huge plus.

Don't get me wrong, the filtering in TheBat! is very powerful, it's just that like the
documentation, it could do with a lot of improving in various areas.

Thanks for your help.

Another filter question

2004-07-04 Thread M i c C u l l e n
G'day all.

He's what I would have thought was a simple one, but I can't seem to get it to work.

With emails to the tbudl list, I've got two filters:

1) emails addressed to the list are sorted into the "TheBat!" folder, and

2) emails addressed to the list AND sent by me are sorted into the "TheBat!" folder
and PARKED.

However, despite the filter for parking my posts being above the generic filter, my
messages aren't parked, just filtered, as per normal.

Any ideas?

There might be another approach, a bit clumsy but it can be automated,
using command line parameters. You could start up TB! using a command
line batch file (look in the help file for details) that exported certain
parked messages from the folder, and imported them into another.

The main problem appears to be that although you can specify an age in
days, it only exports those younger that that age.

You would have to export and delete ALL parked messages from your tbudl
folder to your keep folder, and then re-export and delete the younger
messages from keep back to tbudl.

If you start up TB! on a daily (or more frequent) basis, that should do
what you need.

So, I think it's the fault of TB to think the mail was received and

Should work. Just to be sure I tested a filter that moves and parks

Could you post your filter to the list? (Just to check for mistakes.)

Sorry.. ;)

most of the empty mails here are probably "spam", too. but this one
definitely not.
You might want considering looking at the source/headers and into the
protocol.ini logfile that TB can create.

Known spammer technique. If the message doesn't get kicked back, they
assume they reached a valid address. There are lot of things one can
do server-side to preclude this but at the very least, you can filter
on empty subject fields and probably the empty to field depending upon
how the incoming message is constructed.

The TB! backup tool works for me, since all I need is to be able to
use a different machine from time to time. I just backup all folders
and run a full restore on the second machine, which at least on mine
overwrites the original message base, meaning the messages that have

Fair enough that TB! is nothing more than basic, and the ability to cut

My point was that Office is a less than ideal choice. But then if it
