Default Outbox for Common Folders

2004-08-12 Thread David Earl
When I set up the TB, I started testing with my hi-spam-potential account, with the
idea that if something goes wrong, no harm.

Now I have some common folders set up, and it's causing a problem with new message &
replies (from those folders). The messages are automatically being put in the outbox
of this "spam" account. I'd rather have common folders working with what I consider my
default account, with the "correct" From:, To:, and transport (sent when I check my
default account, not when I check my spam account).

Can the outbox for common folders (or the choice of default account) be controlled
somehow, or have I goofed there? (I know I can set the default the identity, but that
doesn't solve the transport issue.)

Account -> Properties -> General -> Checkbox "This account is the default
for MAILTO:"; ... will make the account the default account for common
folders, too. Its a bit misleading, indeed. :-)

Sorry Leif, guess I'm a little dense. That makes it sound like when I create a chat
folder, it sets up a sort of ListServ or echo relay, but only for TB users. IAE, it
looks like something that I can (should) probably leave for later.

Sorry about the sig line & the duplicated messages. I hadn't seen such a feature
before & the templates for my "The Bat" common folder were all set to %BLANK by
default.

Yes, that works! I was afraid that I might have to re-install.

Misleading is ok. The TB documentation could be better. Oh well. I'm a "dumb new user"

I hope, the German to English translation is better as the English to
German translation ;-)

An English version of the helpfile is not planned (because of my

Different flags for messages

2004-08-12 Thread Thomas Andersson
Hi list,

is there an easy way to apply different flags for messages instead of
the current ON/OFF flag?

I'd like flags like
* Reply later
* Read later
* Important
* To Do
etc. etc.

I would also like to filter out these messages using Virtual folders.

Cheers

You could do something like this with colour groups

I believe that can be done, but as I see no use for VF myself, I
can't speak from experience.

Here's an example of something similar that I currently use:

- create a colour group called 'for reply'. Do not change the colours.
You don't really want messages with this colour group to stand out but
simply to be filterable to a VF.

- now create a VF which filters messages that are not replied to and
which have been labelled with the colour group 'for reply'. Set the
VF to monitor the various folders you wish it to.

When finished, the effect is that as soon as you label a message with
the colour group 'for reply', it's added to the VF which shows
messages for replying.

If you visit your VF and reply to any of the messages, they disappear
from the VF since they no longer have one of the criteria for VF
filter matching. After replying, they're now marked as being replied
to.

This works very nicely and with other colour groups one could achieve
the same effect with 'important' and 'to do' etc.

Bayes***** Plug-In.

2004-08-12 Thread Chris Weaven
Hi all,

After a few problems with the Bayesit plug-in, I went over to SpamPal as
my spam filter.

The reason why I left Bayesit in the first place, was that as I was
testing betas etc, Bayesit would no longer catch any mail!? It was like
it was losing it's database.

Did anyone else experience this?

SpamPal has been working well, but as I use TLS, I also have to use
Stunnel with SpamPal, which isn't ideal.

Therefore I'm thinking of making a return to a plug-in and notice
there's two out there now!

Bayesfilter & Bayesit!

Which one do most people here use?

I'm just after something reliable and that works effectively and if all
else fails, I'll return to SpamPal.

FYI - I've just over 800 mails that I can train them with, so that
shouldn't be a problem. :-)

In the account properties panel and under 'Options', there's a switch
for compressing all folders on exit. Is that switch enabled?

Hmm, I've just been playing with them both to see how they work and
using my test base, they seem pretty similar in the outcome.

Now, I've just had a thought and not sure if this is a good idea or not.

Can I run them both at the same time?

The reason I ask is that TB! gives you the option to install more than
one plug-in, so why not try it?

If this is possible, how can you tell which plug-in is actually scanning
the mail or if they both are?

Yes, they can. I have been using them both for a few weeks with no
problems whatsoever.

Like you, I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not but it works for me and
has been catching a good amount of my spam with *very* few false

Good question.

AFAIA, according to the logs it appears they both are.

Perhaps somebody else can provide you with a more definitive answer though
