That's a good idea, too. I haven't done anything yet, so I can always
change the names back. I haven't done anything yet with the Accounts
except for set them up and test them (send/receive).

You're probably right. If Alexander agrees with you, I'll set about changing
the Account names back.

I didn't know that it was even possible to get into anymore trouble,
but if there's a way to do that, I can usually find it.

Thanks for the word of caution, Curtis.

I appreciate it.

My dear Mr. Phillips -- but I *have* registered.

Many times, in fact.

Plus, I've paid for each upgrade as its come along, wishing to do
my part to support Ritlabs.

Unfortunately, I *lost* my registration key during a recent
"upgrade" to v 3.51. The "upgrade" didn't take, it wouldn't load, it
kept freezing at the splash screen, etc., so I've had to download
another copy of TB and start all over again (you'd have known this if
you'd bothered to read the thread about my recent misfortune).

And thanks to the help of several folks here, and for which I will
always be grateful, I have now managed to salvage my old key from an old
backup, too, and that pathetic nag screen is finally gone.

But thanks again for all of your help and your especially warm response!

Sheesh.

PS: There's no good reason, even for someone trying out TB for the very first
time, to have to put up with all that crap during the trial period.
One nag screen per Bat session is more than enough to get the point
across, and is what most other trial software (at least those that
I've ever used) companies use.

None. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

See my mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] which I
just sent to you.

And, Greg, I just had a brainstorm! I looked in my TB! directory. In
the root directory under Speller, I see userdic.tlx .

But in The Bat!/MAIL I see these two entries:
eng_uk.dic
eng_us.dic

Could those be the lines that you've trying to identify, that you need
to add to TB! in order to have the MS Office 97 CSAPI on your machine?

There may well be issues. If you wish to rename your accounts in a way

But do you have them twice? At the top of the list and at the bottom
of the list, with a horizontal line separating the two at the bottom
from the long list above which has the first two at the top?

Like this:

American English
British English
Danish
Dutch
British
French
German (New Spelling)
German (Old Spelling)
Italian
Norwegian (Bokmal)
Portuguese (Brazilian)
Portuguese (Iberian)
Spanish
Swedish
_
American English
British English

In mine, I have American English at the bottom checked. And it does
not flag email as misspelled.

Now, as a test, I'm flagging (checking) American English at the top,
instead. And sure enough, it does stop at email as misspelled, just as
you said.

If you don't have them twice, so that you can check the American
English (or British English) at the bottom, you indeed do not have the
CSAPI dictionary installed, as it says in
Help/Index/Find/Dictionaries/Spell-Checker/--and scrolling down, the
information that The Bat! automatically detects and installs CSAPI.

Now, as we both know, the Help file is old, much of it not yet revised
for v. 3.xx--some of it going back to 1.xx.

Do you think you may have found a bug in v. 3.51.10, whereby TB! no
longer automatically detects and installs the CSAPI dictionary from
Office 97?

Here's a copy-and-paste from what MIguel said to me on April 18, 2005,
on how to know if I had both dictionaries installed:
(TBBETA mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] )

> Maybe you have both available. Try something. Open the editor and
> select
> one of you British English dics and then select Spell
> Checker/Dictionaries. What dic is shown in Dictionary-File? If it is
> UserDic.TLX then that is not CSAPI.

Yes. UserDic.TLX from the top entry.

> Now select the other British English and do the same. Do you get the
> same UserDic.tlx or do you perhaps get eng_uk.dic or something
> similar?
> If you get eng_uk.dic then that's CSAPI dic from MS Office.

From the bottom entry, selecting British English, I do see eng_uk.dic.

Astounding. How I got it, I have no idea. However, I was running Word
97 when I got my first TB!, v. 1.61.
*

So, what do you think, Greg? Should 3.51.10 have copied this for you
from Office 97? If so, and it hasn't, either there's a bug in it or
something has gone wrong locally for you.

Sorry, if this is still no help. :(

Great to have you back, Miguel!

I've just written Greg a long reply, in which I told him again how to
be sure on whether or not he has the MS Office 97 CSAPI installed.

He can look on the machine that runs Office 97 and compare what I see
in Spell Checker/Language and what he sees.

If it's not installed, he may have found a bug in 3.51.10.

Or he may just have identified a bug local to his own machine.

Yes, I did, Alexander, and thank you. But I've decided to take the coward's way
out
and send a copy of my "old" registry file to Roelef per his PM. He has offered
to do the "extraction" for me, and then send me back something that I
only have to be able to open. I think that even I can manage to open
a file without hurting anyone. Let us pray. :)

Here's an excerpt from your PM:

>> Yes, I'd like to have all of my old e-mails back, but only a dozen
>> (out of the the thousands I had on file) or more were what I'd call
>> critical ones (like the one containing my Bat key!).

>You can always re-import the data, thats absolutely NO PROBLEM, TB is
>equipped with the import functions to do exactly that.

Here's what I've been thinking about that (can't you just smell the smoke even
from
where you are?)...I've now reconstructed all of my
Accounts, all ten of them, and everything appears to be working fine.
I can send and receive messages on each one (Hallelujah!).

Now, when I did setup these "new" Accounts, I used different names for
each of them (different from their "old" names).

For example, one of my old Accounts may have been named "John Doe." But I setup
the new Account name using the Account's e-mail address for John Doe,
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (I think it's less confusing this way, because I
had several very similar Account names).

Will there be conflicts because of that, if and when I ever do attempt to
re-import the
"old" data into my new version of TB?

And by having a different name for each "new" Account, when I re-import the
"old" Account data, will they appear, say, appended to my current list of 10
Accounts (for a total of 20 Accounts)?

If so, that would be actually be desirable, I think, because then I could take
my
time and move/copy the messages/templates/data, etc., that I really want to
preserve, up to the "new" Accounts, etc., and then just delete the "old" ones.

What do you think about that?

TB was using the CSAPI functions and configured them automatically.
Did so for me too. A reason for the intpack was that not everybody was
using MS Office and apart from that, my Dutch MS Office didn't have an
English dictionary, whereas TB's intpack did provide me with an
English and a German dictionary.
Apart from that it's possible that the intpack predates csapi support.

Send me the back-up file for your original bat registry per personal
mail and I'll take care of the extraction part. I'll send you a file
back that you'll only have to open and you're done.

Up to now we only know that you couldn't run an updated TB, that can
be a corrupted account, but for all I know it could be a corrupted

Hello fellow tbudl subscribers!

While we're talking about dictionaries, perhaps it would be well to
note that there are two German language dictionaries in the

German New Spelling
German Old Spelling

German New Spelling uses GN as ID.
German Old Spelling uses GO as ID.

GE no longer works.

I found the thread in TBBETA where we were discussing this. It's
actually two subject lines, "No Spell Checker" and "Spell Checker
Menu." Starting with a query along about April 18, 2005.

Sure enough, MAU did say to me that he couldn't remember how he first
got his CSAPI dictionaries in, but he didn't think it would happen
"automagically."

But, then, the conversation continued and Marcus Ohlstrom wrote that,
in fact, The Bat! *did* automatically detect CSAPI dictionaries and
add them automatically to the Spell Checker, when Office 1997-2000 was
installed on a machine with The Bat!

Yes. I still agree with that. :)

But what I found and posted above still doesn't solve your problem.
You are going to need either Miguel or Miguel's Proof.zip file in
order to get them into your copy of The Bat!, apparently.

Well, I've been thinking...and now I realize that I'd like to be able
to restore *everything* just like it was, if only to get back my old

And I realize that there are more than a few critical e-mails, too, so,
yes, I'd like to have all my old e-mails back. I've been pretty good
about deleting all the extraneous ones, so most of them were indeed
important to me.

After I restore all of my accounts, I'm going to give Alexander's

I used to have Office 97, and it happened to me automatically, without

As you've already made a copy, you know how to do that again. After
you're done, open the file with your old registry settings and they'll
be loaded into the registry and overwrite your current settings. Note
that it isn't really necessary to have TB shut down (it won't hurt
though) when making a copy of its registry, but it has to be shut down
in order to be able to restore it properly.

When TB doesn't load with the restored registry settings, first
locate the key with regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!\SoftwareRegistrationId2
and copy its value to a text editor, do the same for the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!\RegistrationBlock
Now close regedit
restore the registry settings from your unregistered setup and now
manually restore the two keys I mentioned. I'm not sure whether you'll
need both of them, it's possible that one is a remnant of the v2
version that has been used on this system before v3 came out.

In the Editor window look under Spell Checker/Language. In mine, I
have a horizontal division line below a long choice of languages and below it:
British English
American English

AFAIK those are the two from Office 97. The same two choices are at
the top of the list above the horizontal line, and I think this list
is the International list.

I've uninstalled the old Bat and reinstalled a new copy. I've managed
to set up one of my 10 accounts, which I am using to make this post.

Can I do that now(close TB and double-click on that file), or should I
wait until after I have set-up all my other accounts?

I have no doubt that Tbeta people are doing their best to expand

You can restore the registry backup you've made, it will contain the
registration information.

But, since you installed the program all new, you'll have your 30 day
evaluation period (the only "problem" is the evaluation reminder window
when you start the program, and add new accounts). That should give you
time enough to restore your accounts one by one and eventually get to
the one account that contains your registration for v3. :-)

Yes, here's a page link about it:

Registration woes, and still trying to recover from installing vs 3.5

2005-08-06 Thread Handsome Jack Morrison
Well, I'm trying to follow Alexander's instructions; I've backed
everything up (I think), I've installed a new copy of The Bat, and
I've managed to get one Account working, so at least I can
make/receive posts to this mail list(unfortunately, I have 9 Accounts to go).

However, it won't accept my registration key. The one I keep filed
away in my EverNote database. It says it doesn't accept keys from
versions 1.XXX or 2.XXX, and requires a newer key. Since I have
uninstalled my old Bat, I can't get to the original e-mail from
Ritlabs that contained my key. I don't even know to which of my 10
e-mail accounts it was directed.

I tried to enter my 2.0 key, but it wouldn't accept it. I have
faithfully upgraded (and paid for) the latest version of The Bat ever
since I first started using The Bat (sometimes to my dismay).

How can I get this resolved?

Yes, it works only with Office 97 dictionaries. However, there is a
trick to use the dictionaries even if Office 97 s not installed. That's
how I use the British English and Spanish dictionaries. Actually I don't

No, I didn't enable message splitting. As I said, the outbox shows
number of messages correctly. Its whend I do "Send Queued Mails", it
starts to send hundreds of mails, one by one, of course...

Can't really figure out. I re-installed also.

When I don't have attachments, this problem doesn't happen.

Check your settings at:
Account -> Properties -> Files & Directories -> Message splitting

Did you enable message splitting, if so disable it. When it isn't
enabled then set the limit for splitting higher.

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your
message and following it with all quoted text below, is not
encouraged and we actually request that you not do so on this list
because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the
   top of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to
which you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to,
and then below the quotation, type your response. If you're
responding to more than one part of the original, then quote each
part separately and follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that
you may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much
respect this. However, this is the format that most of the active
members here prefer and all members are expected, and are being
asked to use the format that will make most of the active membership
here comfortable reading. You'll likely get a more responsive group
when you post using a style that is comfortable for them to read and
understand.

To find out why these MOD messages are posted to the list instead of
private mail, please read the welcome message you received when you

Thank you.

or because i installed latest version of TB?

To my knowledge, I have _never_ used a beta version of anything - only
what was available as a standard release.

Mary's advice about going with whatever works is more to the point,
all the more so, in my opinion, when I see highly experienced
