Dynamically switching SMTP servers

2000-07-27 Thread Bailey, Jason

Hello TBUDL,

I connect to the internet three different ways with my laptop. 1)At work
I am plugged into a LAN with a dedicated network connection with a DHCP
assigned address. When I am hooked up this way, I use the local SMTP server
(since my ISP won't relay mail from machines not on its network). 2)When
I'm at home I use the Internet sharing feature of Win98 and use the
Win98 assigned address and my ISPs SMTP server (since my work SMTP
server is behind a firewall and won't allow me to connect to it. 3) On
occasion I actually dial into my ISP and again I use my ISPs SMTP
server.

My questions: Is there a way to get the Bat! to switch between these
servers either intelligently or with a drop-down so that I don't have
to retype the names every time? Will I mess up anything if I just make
copies of the cfg files for each variation and setup a batch file that
will copy the appropriate file to account.cfg and then launch TB?

I've not run across a mailer yet that offers this as a feature...maybe
you could be the first! Looks like a great product so far. I really
appreciate the "try before you buy" as it lets me see if I really do
want this product.

In Eudora 4.x
Tools -> Options -> Styled Text -> Ask Me Each Time
You will find this pop-up box extremely annoying and decide that it's
better to just not use the styled text.

User Profiles and TB!

2000-08-02 Thread Bailey, Jason

Hello TBUDL,

I'm experiencing something quite bizarre. I have a laptop that I take
to and from work. At work I login as userX and at home as userY. This
is so that programs that I use only at work don't start up
automatically when I'm at home. I configured TB! to look at the same
directories in both profiles. Now the weird stuff. I don't see the
same emails in both profiles! Under one profile I have 96 emails in
the other I have 4?!? I guess there must be a registry entry that is
affecting this. Could somebody please advise me on how I might resolve
this minor annoyance?

U..nevermind, it was my own fault. It was a case of he using two
different names (and thus two different folders) when I was creating
the accounts. My own silliness caused thissorry to have bugged the
whole group with this one.

OT? S/MIME & PGP (inspired by: Re[2]: List server rules)

2000-08-07 Thread Bailey, Jason

Hello Mark,

Pardon my ignorance. What is S/MIME? I've heard of mime and thought
that it was a way of encoding attachments...I thought attachments were
a no-no on this list.

Second question, I don't know much about PGP...I've always looked at
email as postcards (I don't write anything I wouldn't want anybody
else to see in an email) so I've never really looked into it. But from
my basic understanding, a PGP message can only be read by sender and
recipient. If this is the case, then why are we posting our PGP codes
to a group that communicates in mass? Shouldn't these be reserved for
interpersonal communications?
I plead ignorance on this...I'm not making any jabs at all. I honestly
and sincerely am asking to be educated on these matters.
