Re: Problem with v.3.64.01 crashing
Unfortunately however whenever I try to access my IMAP account at Fastmail The Bat! appears to complete all the downloading and then crashes with an Access violation error. As you've discovered, Bob, IMAP is still a "work in progress" in TB! I have so many issues with performance, implementation and stability that I rarely use the prog these days. For a better discussion of the current state of IMAP take a deep breath and have a look at TBBETA. -- Clive Taylor Current version is 3.62.14 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re: Some help with IMAP
I assume that I can have different folders on the server for day to day filtering? And then selectively pull down emails that I feel need to be on the local machine. You can (should be able to) set up a folder structure on your server much as you can with a POP account, depending on the capability of your remote server. However, TB! has a number of problems defining and administering new folders that have been aired here over a period of time and it's one of the reasons I don't use TB! very much at the moment. You can copy/drag individual emails to local folders, and if you've got OE or Thunderbird on your system you'll see how easy it is to do but I still don't see why you'd want to do it on a day-to-day basis. -- Regards Clive Taylor Current version is 3.62.09 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Some help with IMAP
Additionally, there's nothing preventing you from using filters or manually copying your messages to local folders. There's your backup. True. I do archive some of my FastMail folders every few months and store them on CD. -- Regards Clive Taylor Current version is 3.62.09 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Re: Some help with IMAP
I also like the idea of downloading mails from the server to a local machine. To me it 'feels' more secure. ;) Ask yourself what would happen if your machine crashed or was stolen. How would you rescue your mail? I certainly trust that my mail service (FastMail) has a more robust backup system than I have! For me, this is one of the great benefits of IMAP, the other being that I can access identical mail structures from wherever I happen to be without a lot of fiddly synchronisation every day. -- Regards Clive Taylor Current version is 3.62.09 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

I thought I'd share this piece of spam sent to one of my domains that I received this morning. Look familiar? --- This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your list.stanklos.com mailing list memberships. It includes your subscription info and how to use it to change it or unsubscribe from a list. You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on. In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such changes. For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of the list (for example, [EMAIL PROTECTED]) containing just the word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to you with instructions. Enter the email address to forward to in the 'Forward to' field, choose whether or not to delete the original from FastMail.FM using the checkbox, and click 'Add'. The short answer is that you can use POP or IMAP with any account you set up and forward mail into and from your account (POP only with paid accounts). Managing IMAP folders
I've just come across an interesting little free prog that may help some of you having problems with TB's IMAP working. Here's a description of what the prog does: "IMAPSize concentrates on providing means for maintaining your IMAP accounts, rather than using them. If you are using an IMAP client that offers less features than the main players, you will find IMAPSize very handy (if not necessary...). IMAPSize also offers some features not found in other clients (e.g. the attachment deletion area, global searches, etc). It's a late alpha - but stable - can be downloaded here: http://www.broobles.com/imapsize/ -- regards Clive Taylor Using TB 2.10.01 Current version is 2.10.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Re:IMAP Question
Hi Allie, > Good clients to try and compare with how TB! handles IMAP are > ThunderBird and Mulberry. If you use those, you'll experience solid > IMAP support. I know this topic must be boring the pants off non IMAP users but I've been using Mulberry for all my domain traffic exclusively for a month now and I'm sooo impressed with the way it handles IMAP (I know you've experienced performance probs but it's fine here). What I miss about TB! are some of the little functions I've been taking for granted, though. Things like the ability to reformat quotes in replied messages, the address book, the interface, the editor (really!). The bottom line though, is that I can rely on the prog: it works without any drama and I can get on with my work. TB! is now relegated to POP list-traffic type operations where I don't require constant access to the information. Shame really, but I'll persevere with updating TB in the hope this area improves. What I won't do though is pay for another upgrade to access a set of features that don't work! -- regards Clive Taylor Using TB 2.04.7 Current version is 2.10.01 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
