After updating AntivirPE antivirus-plugin stopped working

2002-08-25 Thread Haico

Hi,

After installing the latest update for Antivir-PE the antivirus-plugin
stopped working. I hope that plugin will be updated soon also.

It was pure coincidentally that I noticed it. I stumbled on this
website: http://www.gfi.com/emailsecuritytest/ which holds more than
the eicar-testfile to check if your email software is protected. And
all off the test-mails got into my inbox instead of the
quarantine-folder.

I've tested [only with eicar] it with an older version of Antivir-PE
and with that it worked as it used to. The eicar-testfile landed in
the quarantine-folder.

[so its not a beta issue]

Does someone else have the same experience?

Greetings,
Haico

Antivir updates (automatic internet update) always the whole program
but this time it de-installed the old program and after restarting
windows it installed the new program.

So it's completely fresh.

And as you say: It's not because the definitions got updated. It's the
new version of the program that's the cause!

Sorry that I haven't made that completely clear. :-(

Yes.

After trying the old version (which worked btw) and uninstalling
it I did a fresh install of the new program which I downloaded
manually.

I think there have been some changes in the program which caused the
plugin to stop working.

I moved it to the AVpersonal directory did nothing and it works again.

I hadn't read the documentation on the website properly. Some files
should be executed:

"For tests involving an email attachment, such as the VBS attachment
and the CLSID extension vulnerability tests: If you can run the
attached file in the test email, then you are vulnerable: The test
will create a file on your desktop called gfi-test.txt, which contains
vital system information."

I'm glad I'm still save with The Bat! :-)

That's the one I downloaded and installed in the AVpersonal directory
and after doing that it intercepted eicar. That's the prove that the
plugin works.

Don't pay attention to the other testmails.

If that one exists it has a different engine and therefore it doesn't
work with the current version. [I think ;)]

The engine has version 6.14.0.1 and therefore ave32.exe with the same
version number should work. (I have the same versions)

Did you check if you have the right settings for the plugin?

problem: Quicksearch and spamcop filter

2002-12-15 Thread Haico
Hi,

Every time I try to forward spam to Spamcop with a manual filter
(**which is also listed on the FAQ page**) using the command
CTRL+ALT+S the quick search bar pops up.

I don't know why this is happening. I've looked at the hot keys
(shortcuts) and it isn't listed as belonging to the quick search bar.
It isn't listed at all belonging to anything so that shouldn't be a
problem.

I also tried using CTRL+ALT+N to forward spam, but that doesn't
matter.. The quick search bar keeps popping up.

The filter works fine but the side affect is pretty annoying.

It used to work fine in the past with version 1.61. Does anyone have a
explanation/solution for this annoyance?

Greetings,

When I enable the "use default column settings" in the folder option
window all the folders have the same width. I don't think you can
alter that.

But if I disable that function TB always remembers what width I have
set manually, after restart. So I don't have to force anything.

spamfiltering / the Inbox-known-issue again

2002-04-02 Thread Haico

Hi to all,

First of all: Hope that I don't offend anyone for dragging a almost
drowned horse out of the water. But since the discussion I read about
creating a spamfilter I thought about this again. (and someone :)
called this thing a zombie anyway, so.. ;)

I was just thinking.. Why doesn't Ritlabs skip the whole idea of that
Inbox-known folder.. If they got any sense on this matter, they would
see how stupid it is.

1) degrading your inbox to a spam-folder.
2) the thing's name is too long and it just don't sound right.
3) you've got 2 folders with 2 blue arrows.. which looks very stupid.

Why not make the opposite, and create something like a junk-folder.
(this has been mentioned before)You can also make a basic-filter with
more options for dealing with spam..

And give that folder a *RED* arrow and call it unknown.

If Ritlabs would want to have an easy filter for beginners. Than
you've got something that makes sense.

And a folder with a red arrow would look very nice. :-)

Haico

I did so too. And I'm sorry for bringing this up again, and this is
the last I've got to say about it:

I hate stupid idea's. And in a way I could have used this filter
and a folder like that..
Because I don't get a lot of mail.. So most of my not-wanted-mail
would have been seperated from my personal once..

I also like to see my personal mail on the mail-ticker.. And I'm VERY
annoyed if a spam-mail gets on it..

So in a way I liked the idea.. But NOT in this way..

See it as a wishlist-thing!

And you made my point.. If many, many of us deleted it, it's a bad
idea and not wanted!

Re: spamfiltering / the Inbox-known-issue again

2002-04-03 Thread Haico

Hi again,

Thanks for the reactions.. I thought I was gonna be skinned
alive ;-)for bringing this up again. But I'm glad I did.. Made me
think more about filtering and keeping the Inbox clean.

And:
I don't post much on mailinglist. And since posting to this one I got
two spam-mails.. Normally I get one spam-mail per 2 weeks..

And I now have set up a folder which I call unknown and made my own
basic address book filter.. The posts got in the folder.. :-)

Saved me from being very disappointed and thanks to the spammers for
testing it. :-) Now I was certain that it wasn't a post from a friend
or a loved one. [stupid that I didn't think about this in the past]

So a basic filter for beginners is in a way a good idea if it made
sense:

But I think you should also have an option to turn it of and on prob.
in the preference-menu.. The folder and filter should be gone after
disabling it.. So users who don't want and need this. could get rid of
it.

And I'm not even a beginner I just don't use TB! to its limits. And I
still am a happy user. :-)

With kind regards,
Haico

Dutch lang. interf. / Bug.

Hi,

I really like the Dutch language interface which recently showed up.
It's very nice to see all the menu's and commands shown in your own

words are carefully chosen. Good job!

But I switched back to English since I stumbled on a bug:

When I want to kill dupes in a folder I get this error-message:

"Format '%d' invalid or incompatible with argument."

Hope that this will be corrected in the next update of

No you can't. TB! cannot fetch mail from a http-server.

If you really want to do this you can prob. use an external program like
http://pop3hot.com/. The downside is that you have to pay for it. I

Hmm.. TB! has an import-feature for Eudora.. If that doesn't work.. I
don't know what will.. The mail-inbox wizard has an option for Eudora.

doing it to another folder I got the error-message again..

So I copied a message from that folder to another and moved the copy
back again.. As it shows: I'll get the message when there *aren't* any
dupes in the folder..

And it's not really a problem :-) It's not good, but I'll just treat
it as: *there are no dupes to kill*

Create a new folder and name it $known$.

You can delete it again but then you have to have your
inbox-known filter turned of or directed to another folder.
If you don't it will be created automatically if you restart

I don't think you can in TB!

yes. ;) *.bav is the plug-in extension which TB needs to
integrate anti-virus software. I believe only
Kaspersky(sp.?) has it.

I didn't know that. Thanks for bringing it up.. Maybe there
will be more in the future.

But I don't think there will be one for mcaffee, which I
use.. They don't allow it I heard.. And in my country I
can't use AVG for free. :(

If you have the Inbox-known filter turned on, in every

clean install / s/mime

2002-05-01 Thread Haico

Hi everyone,

I just removed the bat and it's registry entries and reinstalled TB!
1.60h.

Now all the s/mime-signed messages are readable with the internal
encryption implementation.. But the (valid/invalid) signs right of the
message body are gone.

Not that it matters.. But when I installed 1.60h over 1.60g those
s/mime-signed messages weren't visible at all.

You can also make a filter for those keywords and then direct them to
your inbox.. Your own name, name of the company and other keywords
which usually comes up in those messages..

Maybe that would be more suited for the "Sherlock" (process

F-PROT and TB!

2002-06-04 Thread Haico

Hello,

Since none of the anti-virus plugins are of use to me.. [The only free
one I can use is Antivir but I have the mcafee guard to protect my
computer..] I searched the archives of tbtech some time ago..

There I found a thread about configuring The Bat for using
F-PROT [dos version] to scan mail.. And it works very well.

Since I haven't seen nothing about this on TBUDL I thought I'll post
this to list..

Here's a link to a website where you can read about what you need to
do in order to get it to function:

http://www.guenther-eisele.de/bat/fprot_e.htm

One thing that I overlooked in the beginning:
You need to make a batch-file and therefore you can't type "program
files". That would be: "Progra~1"

Ow.. The plugin works, but not with zip-files apparently. :-S Hmm.. I
have to look into that.

I thought the guard should have been loaded in order for the plugin to
work.

Unofficially yes:

Someone who did work for the original Gravity has picked up
development of the program. I downloaded the latest build and it works
well. Although sometimes the messages will not be shown when you
double click them, but after a few restarts the problem is gone.

Here's the site for the ongoing development of Gravity and where

Strange problems with a mail account

2003-08-01 Thread Haico Bianchi
Hello list,

I have a strange problem. I am using the bat 1.62r on a W2k machine. I
have two mail accounts. One is working the other one is not. The one
that's not working does receive mail, filters it but when I try to
look at it the bat freeses completely! I have been looking on the
website and have been looking throug this list but I can't find
anything that looks like the problem I am having. I tried exporting
the account, delete the account, close the bat, reopen and import. No
luck.

Any suggestions?
