Customising toolbar

2002-06-06 Thread Jon Lawrance

Can you customise the toolbar?

Ideally, I would like to right mouse click on a message and have a
Quick Template choice, instead of having to click the Reply icon and
navigate to the list of templates.

However, since this is not a feature (hopefully a future one) is there
anyway I can use an icon on the toolbar to click?

I have lots of templates so I can't remember their names and use
CTRL+Spacebar.

Filtering by exact text string

2002-05-29 Thread Jon Lawrance

I have a filter to trap all Access World Training enquiries. They
get shunted into their own folder. These are initial enquiries created
from my website enquiry form.

But when I start a discussion with them, the original string then
looks like...

RE: Access World - Training

This still gets shunted into the folder using the filter. However, I
only want to the filter to trigger on enquiries that have a subject of Access World
Training and nothing else
added to it.

i.e. Access World or Re:Access World Training is not filtered but
Access World Training is.

How can I do this?

Filtering using AND

2002-05-26 Thread Jon Lawrance

I am trying to create a filter that searches for certain characters in
the Subject line. I'm doing this so I cut down on the spam.

I want to search for something like:

Ä AND Æ AND ë

By doing so - and with a few variations on this - I figure I could cut
down on the unreadable spam stuff. I have already gotten rid of some
of the foreign language ones by using character sets but I still have
some left over.

How do I set up the AND statement in the filters?

2. I have TB check for email every 2 minutes. Will this program

CT __
CT %CLEAR
CT
CT mail from: %OFromName %OFromAddr

CT canned answer 6 description handle_06
CT canned answer 7 description t_handle_7
CT ......
CT ¯¯

CT Every time you reply to a message you'll see information about sender,
CT receiver, subject and describtions and handles (= names) of all
CT relevant templates you might want to use.

CT Look at the %cursor macro. Assumed you created quick templates for all
CT your canned answers you just have to move your cursor down to the
CT wanted handle and finally press Ctrl+Space. This is really quick! (The
CT handles must be aligned on right of course)

CT This is even a better solution than selecting templates directly from
CT the menu (Utilities - Insert quick template) because a) you can list
CT only the templates you want and b) you can order, arrange etc. them as
CT you like (with separators...).

CT A canned answer template could look line this (%CLEAR is important!):
CT __
CT %CLEAR%-Hello %AbOFromFirstName=%OFromFirstName,

CT * you wrote:

CT %QUOTES

CT No problem, [...]

CT --
CT Regards, Jon
CT ¯¯

CT Maybe one could use such a quick menu as a folder template for some

Multiple Standard replies - pick list

2002-04-05 Thread Jon Lawrance

When I get an email, quite often I need to choose a reply from a
possible list of 5 canned answers.

I understand there are keyboard shortcuts where I can type a keyword
and hit Alt+space or something like that. But when I have lots of
different replies for each folder, it gets near impossible to remember
what they are.

Is there a way to do this perhaps using another application or is this
a high priority feature that The Bat team should look at?

The functionality I am looking for is similar to that found for
Outlook at the following url:

http://www.emailtemplates.com/et/

Any suggestions?

Re-threading

I have some messages that are not threaded.

If you have imported messages, or dragged and dropped them, do you
need to do some sort of re-threading?

Hello Marcus,

Thanks - that is what I want, but perhaps slower than ideal!

It would be great if this menu was available:

1. On right clicking the mouse.

2. The choices filtered by the folder the originating message was in.

3. Not having to click Reply first.

Since I respond to such large quantities of email, a faster way of
doing this would be much better for me.

MO example my spam filters submitted below, copy all text and paste them
MO into the sorting office.

MO not filter messages from addresses in my address book.

MO I do not argue that these filters are perfect, but they does suite my

Auto-reply - 2 step

2002-04-02 Thread Jon Lawrance

I have online forms for a service I offer, where I receive an email
with the following subject: Service xyz

When I get such an email, I would like to move it to a folder called
Service xyz and then auto-reply with a standard message, such as:

Thank you for your enquiry. Which model were you interested in?

They reply and we end up with a threaded discussion.

The problem I see is that if they reply, they will then get another
auto-reply email, because it is triggered by the subject Service
xyz. Yet I only want this auto-reply on the first email.

How can I do this with The Bat? (I have only just bought it and I am
already ecstatic about it.)

Does anybody know a solution for this problem ?
 ---

I recently converted from Outlook 98 to TB on NT4 (SP6). Hopefully, my
experiences will prove helpful, but no guarantees!

FWIW, I couldn't find a direct path to get my messages from Outlook to
TB except by exporting each message (individually) from outlook and
then importing those messages into TB. That said, there is a
 fairly-good indirect route.

 1. In Outlook Express, import the messages from Outlook, then close
Outlook Express.
 2. In The Bat! use the Import Wizard to import the messages from
Outlook Express. (Tools-Import Messages-Mailbox Import Wizard).

Using this method, I imported over three thousand messages from
Outlook to TB in just a few minutes (the longest part was the transfer
 between the MS products!)

However, there is a problem if you're running multiple PST files.
Outlook Express only finds the messages in your main PST file. Because
of this, you cannot import messages that are in additional personal
folders (PST files). The work-around here is to copy all your messages
from the secondary PST files to your main PST file before doing the
 first import.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a way to get my contact lists from
Outlook to TB, keeping email addresses, snailmail addresses, and
telephone numbers intact. The most reliable method for me is to export
as VCard from Outlook and import the VCard into TB as I need each
address. However, that means that it will be some time before I can
give the simple MAPI function over to TB -- because that prevents
Outlook from starting and I need Outlook to retrieve my contact info.

In all, this has not been an easy process. However, for me, the
immunity from email viruses and web-bugs, the speed and flexibility
 make it worth while.

Tried it and it works fine thanks.

When I tried to import to Outlook Express 6 and then into TB, it loses the
status of what is read and what is unread. I really don't want that.

So, I tried to import by loading Eudora and importing into that. But Eudora
doesn't let me import the messages because I have some emails with the Bad

I seem to be getting stuck but I really want to use TB!

Select a folder to move, hold Alt and drag the folder to it's

hold Alt pressed, but additionally Ctrl (so it will be
Ctrl+Alt you hold pressed while dragging, until the folder is

Bat 2 - when?

2002-01-07 Thread Jon Lawrance

Are all Bat upgrades incremental or are there any Quantum leaps in
functionality to the Bat 2 I hear mentioned? If so, when is Bat 2 due? Is it
just a slight change from 1.54?

Thanks,

Jon

Getting my data from Outlook 2000 into The Bat

2002-01-07 Thread Jon Lawrance

I am having trouble importing my data. I have Outlook 2000 and Outlook 6
running Windows XP.

Can I import all the data from Outlook 2000 via Outlook 6 into TB and still
preserve the folder structure? Will it be seemless or cause some problems?

Once in TB, can I drag and drop the folders about so I alter the folder
parent-child relationships etc.?

Thanks,

Jon
