Thank you. I will use that method next time.

Sorry, I will have to change my abbreviations to suit this List.
By AV I meant ::-
   AV = Access Violation

By AV you mean
  AV = Anti Virus

I didn't have my Anti Virus program running. I had disabled it so that that
could not be the cause of the problem.

I won't do that again.

I followed your advice. IE does not abend. This means that the problem is
clearly with The Bat.

In a previous message on another topic I said that The Bat is unable to
handle some HTML that other mail program handle. This has been proven by I
receiving the same message that my friends have - their mail programs have
not crashed, nor have they brought down the whole operating system.

I looked at the message with a hex viewer. The message commences with a
Carriage Return followed by a Line Feed. The human readable text then
follows, commencing byte 3.

Unfortunately The Bat does not have good error recovery routines.

Thank you for that tip but unfortunately the problem exists on my computer
because the message has already been downloaded and deleted from my ISP. See
another reply by me on how I resolved the problem.

This was the clue to enable me to resolve the problem. Thank you.

Unfortunately I could not get to do what you suggested because by running
the Bat it abended...

What I did was to ::-
1) rename Account directory on disk [I have two accounts]
2) run the Bat. It now runs because the problem message is not there.
3) change settings as you suggest
4) rename Account directory on disk to what it was originally

Neverending loop

2002-12-01 Thread Peter Evans
TDUDL,

Tonight received a message which cause an AV in The Bat!

It is the last message in the InBox.

I have to reboot the computer after receiving it.

The problem is that when The Bat is run it tries to display the same message
that causes an AV. So I get the AV again.

How do I delete this message so that I am not in a 'Neverending loop'?

Bat illegal operation

2002-12-01 Thread Peter Evans
When I first bought the Bat I had some problems with The Bat abending.
All these problems in the Bat were not caused to some of my friends who
received the same messages using other mail programs. The problem was only
with the Bat.

I didn't get any further problems until today...

1. Received email from known and respected regular source. It has HTML in
it.

2. When click on the line to view it.
   A) begin to see HTML form on screen
   B) after a fraction of a second program abends

3. Get
  "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
THEBAT caused a general protection fault in module
KRNL386.EXE at 0001:9d4a.
Registers: "

After going through some blue screens of death I get
"Explorer
EXPLORER caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.EXE
at  001:7572"

I had no alternative to turn off the machine.
I lost my internet connection...

4. Turn on the machine when I am off the internet.
I started The Bat. Highlighted the same message.
Get a dialog saying there is an error in the Bat.
Get blue screen of death.
Am forced to power off machine.

5. Turn on the machine when I am off the internet.
Highlighted the same message.
Quickly deleted the message. So the message goes to Trash folder.

6. Phew.
I can now run the Bat.

Has anyone else got this problem with the Bat?
What can I do to prevent it?

Re: Incoming email to correct Account

2002-11-26 Thread Peter Evans
Jonathan,
Thanks for those tips.
I have been trying various things.

I changed the Rule of BusinessA to
  strings = @BusinessA.com
  location = Recipient
  Presence = Yes

Similarly for BusinessB.

I then sent 2 test messages - 1 to BusinessA, 1 to BusinessB.

However if I am on BusinessB (that is it is selected) when I try and
download I get the 2 messages to BusinessB and none to BusinessA.
Another test when I am on BusinessA I get the 2 messages to BusinesA and
none to BusinessB.

Another test when I choose the button with the All option I get the 2
messages to BusinessA and the same 2 to BusinessB.

I still can't get them filtered by Account.

Any ideas?

Incoming email to correct Account

2002-11-25 Thread Peter Evans
TBUDL,
I am a new user of The Bat. I have the Version 1.61 Business Edition.

I have two Accounts - BusinessA and BusinessB.

I want email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to go to BusinessA.
I want email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] to go to BusinessB.

To do this I went into Account | Sorting Office. For 'Incoming Mail' I set
a 'New rule'.
This was ::-
  strings = To: BuinessA.com
  location = Kludges
  Presence = Yes

Similarly for BuinessB.
However any incoming email goes to BusinessA and is not split between A and
B.

How do I go about directing the incoming email?
