Late comment: well, then again, you need not know so much about
html if you use this editor, it comes with HTML 4.0 reference
packed with it.

Great job!

PS: There should be a version 3 coming soon... that has improved
starting times amongst other great improvements.

Good luck!

Nick, as long as the developers provide an option to deactivate
viewing HTML parts by default and as the HTML editor will be
included, a way for the user to deactivate this feature,
introducing HTML capabilities is OK and understandable. A
lot of users like sending out HTML e-mail, so in order for TB!
to become appealing to a larger number of people, the developers
have to put this in their product.

Heck, I don't like the idea of HTML e-mails either, blame
Microsoft for this :)

There is one point you made later on this thread that I totally
agree with, there are bugs that are still unfixed, features half
broken or poorly implemented like the GnuPG plugin, that as I
pointed out several times, becomes a pain when I have to encrypt
an e-mail or when I have to decrypt one. Ah heck, I got tired of
writing to TBBETA about this issue and possible fixes, I just
hope that some day, they will finally be fixed...

First problem I see here is time format. In the template you
used European time (0:00 to 24:00) and the system time of your
machine seems to be in US format am/pm

Else, here on my system it work fine:

the time was 18:12
so it said: evening, which in my opinion is correct. Set your
system date correctly and give it another try.

Hmm, right, we need the filter logs for the

And I think I know why, usually the file that

Fix:
Reinstallation, but tell it to use a fresh data
base file and add your programs again.

Well actually it's something similar to what PGP does but it
aint PGP. That attachment is cause of a S/MIME sig. For this to
be made one needs to import or get a certificate from an
authority such as Verisign, Thawte etc. and guarantees that the
signer is who he says he is. More about this can be found in
TB's help file.

Umm the latest full install on ritlabs' page is 1.53d Thomas,
and 1.53o is only the exec.

Speaking of which... when is RITlabs going to deploy that GPG
plugin that was supposed to support key management task & co. ?

Basically, this is what TB! misses in it's support for GPG, IMO.

No. Microsoft decided to be once again off standards and they do
not offer POP3 access or IMAP. They use some crazy proprietary
protocols for retrieving mail and it's only available with
Outlook incarnations.

My advice to you: change mailbox, there's such a great choice.

yahoo.com, mail.com. The latter let's you chose from a variety of
domain names. Very cool!

Well, one thing that could cause duplicate mails is this
scenario:

- - you are retrieving mail from your ISPs POP3 server, and
suddenly the line drops and the connection is cut. Well the
server as smart as it is, will all mail as being new again
because the mail retrieval didn't finish as it should have.
Now you are downloading *all* your messages again, and after the
download completes OK you will use the Kill-dupes function to
erase all duplicate mail :)

Sometimes I get dupes in a diff manner, which I can't really
explain :( But heh, I can live with it :)

Well if TB! is your regular mail program, and from what you
wrote this seems to be the case, it should. Those .msg files
come attached from the ISPs server for example if something
happened and email could not get to it's destination. This is
only an example there may be other situations when you receive
.msg files attached...

So, the answer is: Yes.

Here's another one:

Add a new contact in your address book, check the check-box for
showing this new contact in the menu that opens when clicking
the down-arrow next to the new message button, sometimes the new
contact will show sometimes not, so the user has to un-check the
check box and then check it again and this time the new contact
will show in the above mentioned menu.

Well, X-Files behavior IMO.

Heh, too bad it's not like an independent part of TB! mailing
software... A good example from the Linux world would be Pine,
that uses Pico as the editor... ran in a "dumb" mode that let's
Pine control it.

And yes, TB!'s editor is a star eh :-)

Haha, if you think that this software (or any software) will

So yes, upgrade, btw 1.4x series had some buffer overflow probs
that could have been exploited, I recall 1.49, but it may be in

Ah, agreed. The OE text editor is crap^100. And the way it wraps
stinks. From two messages to reply to one would look like:

All that should have been quoted.

I agree with Nick, bad design, must be changed.

A work-around this would be to use the editor window always
maximized, but then what if someone gets in the mood to wrap
text at column >=100 ?! I don't want to use a wide screen TV to
read e-mail eh.

First thing first, SMTP=Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, this kind
of server only receives mail from you and then delivers to the
recipient you point to in the "To:" field.

OTOH, POP and IMAP servers are the servers to which The Bat!
"talks" to in order to get your messages. The way TB! and all
other mail software identifies new mail on those servers are
flags. When a new message arrives, the server saves it and flags
it as "New". When you tell TB! or other mailer to leave messages
on the server, those messages will be marked as "Seen"/"Read" and will
not be retrieved, shown nor deleted unless you specify so on the next
session.

Configure your proxy to let you use ports 25, 110, 143.

Also, try to be more specific, is the proxy part of your network
or is it your ISP's?

Is that a proxy or a firewall ?

The Bat! doesn't support RTF or HTML for composing mail, and I
hope it never will. HTML should stay on the WEB as for RTF, heck
Word Pad only. But you can purchase it anyway and enjoy the fine
ways of plain text and power-emailing :)
