I have made the experience (with 2.12 and about half a million mails in one
account, about 2GB together) that no single folder should contain more
than +-3 mails. Any more than that, and TB slows down
dramatically.

Cannot restore Backup: 30000 Mails lost! HELP!

2004-10-05 Thread Timo Boettcher
Hi,

Having upgraded my Windows, I had to reinstall.
Of course I backuped all my mails (33), most of them in just one
account, but when I tried to reinstall and restore my backup, TB2.12
(and 3.0, too) told me that it couldn't read the backup file. The
small accounts restored ok (if I just chose them), the big account
  fails after about 30 mails.

Any idea how I can get my other mails back?

Did you try a folder with more than, say, 32k mails? Performance gets
very poor for me then, independent of the machine I use (I have two
very different machines, but both show the same symptoms starting and
about 30k-35k mails).

Getting Mail out of TB (Was: Migrated to Outlook 2003)

Sorry, it may not be that easy for everybody else.
I have about 35 Mails in about 100 Folders in about 10 accounts.

I just did some testing:
- I can export 1100 Mails per minute to .eml files on the same disc,
with virus-scanner running. (This would take about 6 hours of
babysitting TB to get my mails out.)
- If I choose a unix mailbox, switch of virus-scanning (shouldn't do
that, really), and choose a different disc than the one TB runs on,
I can push this to 8000 mails per minute. (This would still take
well over an hour of babysitting TB.)
BTW, CPU-usage of TB seems to be the bottleneck here.

So, thats for the record, for everybody who is interested.

I am interested in getting my mail over into a linux-imap-server
running on maildir-mailstorage. Anybody got a clue on how to do this
without much (any?) handwork? (Doesn't matter if it takes a week,
would leave the machine running when I am in my holidays *g*)

(Specs of my test:
Athlon 1,2Ghz, 768MB ram, 36gb u2w scsi discs,
Mailsample was last years archive of postfix-users-ml, 8 mails of
300Mb total)

Synchronising Mails [How?/FeatureRequest]

2004-07-27 Thread Timo Boettcher
Hi,

As I am running TheBat! on two machines, a desktop and a Notebook, I
have to synchronize their Mailbase (about 300.000 mails, mostly in 3
accounts), and because I use only my Desktop when I am at home, I
have to sync about daily. I always sync for all data in all
accounts, and I always use the same sync-files.

For each sync, I have to go throught the following stages:
Tools > Sync, [OK], [Select All], [OK], [Choose File], [Save], [OK],
[Choose File], [Save], [OK], [Choose File], [Save]
Thats 16 Mouseclicks for synchronising, why isn't there a button to
do that with one click? (or a menuentry, would be two clicks)

Thats pretty much work for a synchronize function that doesn't even
do what it says (it just copies all mail over, I have to delete
mails on both machines before I sync to get rid of it)

IMO, a simple name is different from a signature, meaning, the OP
didn't have a signature. The only signature in that post was added by
the listserv, and therefore should have the (additional)
sequence. Or would it hurt if more than
one sig had that sequence? BTW, you TBUDL-Mission statement had three
listserv-signatures without a sig-delimiter before them.
Sorry if that has been already discussed, I haven't found anything in
the archives.

I didn't notice that, since I don't use a (real) signature, and all
other mailinglists I use (except the ones sponsored by Sourceforge)
that have a listfooter put that sequence above their list-footer on
their own...
