Attachments when sending

2004-06-20 Thread Richard H. Stoddard
Greetings:

I just sent an e-mail with two attachments to a group of friends. I
use a separate directory for storing incoming attachments, and I just
saw that it contained 18 copies of one attachment (the number of
recipients) and 38 of the other. (The files themselves remain in the
original directory.) How do I prevent it from placing duplicates of
the attachments in the attachment directory? Any explanation for why
it placed so many of the second?

Maybe it's better to store attachments in message bodies?

Can anyone tell me advantages and disadvantages of storing attachments
in message bodies?

Advantage: you're always sure you have the right version of the attachment
that you actually sent or received (instead of a link/reference to the file
you stored elsewhere on your hard drive, which you may have edited
subsequently).

Disadvantage: your mailboxes are bigger, since you're storing the
attachment along with the rest.
