Thanks for this suggestion. So far have not had to resort to this, and
am keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes, drastic having to uninstall.

alt-F4 would not work on it, only task manager.

The solution was to use RegEdit32

Find HKey_CurrentUser - Software - RIT - TheBat

Export this, TheBat entry, as a backup.

If the problem comes back, use RegEdit32

to delete the troublesome registry entry

and then import the registry entry that you had backed up.

Have done the backup, and hope I don't have to use the backup.

I have had to do this regularly. Most annoying.
I have unchecked "Check Mailbox at Startup" and when I want to
download mail, I now do it via "Account" "Dispatch Mail on Server".
So far, anyway, that avoids me having to use Task Manager.

If TB doesn't respond after opening, try alt-F4 (I'm serious).

Is there a better way to recover from this?

When downloading mail, it stopped on the last email, so I forced exit
from Task Manager. Then The Bat would open but not respond.

So I uninstalled The Bat, ran Registry Mechanic to clean registry,
Reboot
Install from scratch
Tools - Restore from the last backup.

Luckily the backup was only 3 days old.

The filters and sub-folders (of the Inbox) did not restore, and have
to be rebuilt.

Does anyone know of a quicker or better fix if this happens again?
