FYI

Confirmed: I never had any problems with the gmx-account. I did exactly as
Dierk did.

2001-02-25 Thread Alexander Levenetz

Hello everybody having troubles using GMX,

>> When I use GMX's SMTP server, I just set TB to POP before SMTP.

What you should do nowadays is under Properties - Transport
- SMTP-Server - Authentication, check "Perform SMTP Authentication"
and leave it to "Use settings of Mail retrieval". You don't need to
check "POP before SMTP". Then under your Pop-server you should have
your user-number rather than your GMX-Email-address and of course your
password. You do not need to change anything at the GMX web-interface.

And most important:

Be aware that your Email-address under Properties - General _MUST_ be
your GMX-Address!! If not, you will never be able to use the
GMX-SMTP-server. Also, make sure that any address set individually for
a folder must also be your GMX-address. This is just one reason why
*I* don't use the GMX-SMTP-server - I have multiple personalities ;-)

Greetings,
Alexander

You don't have to change anything through their web interface. When
GMX implemented SMTP authentication I checked this in TB! and never
did anything on the web. And it worked. Then someone posted that you
have to change the option at GMX, well, I did, and it works still.

Conclusion: Doesn't actually matter what you check or uncheck on the
homepage of GMX.

When I use GMX's SMTP server, I just set TB to POP before SMTP. I
never changed anything in the options on the GMX web interface. Works
fine.

Me too, me too, me too.

Gots lots of suggestions from everyone & you will as well. Re-read
all the info from gmx to no avail. I worked on this problem for the
better part of a week to no avail. I dumped it. Using yahoo for
specific incoming but my own ISP for outgoing.

I know others have used gmx smtp but I don't know if any of them are
in the US which I think has something to do w this problem.

  Very frustrating.

SMTP: mail.gmx.net

Authentication: Perform SMTP authentication; Use settings of mail
retrieval

POP:pop.gmx.net

User: Your GMX client's number

Authentication: Regular; Don't store password

With this it should work. Well mostly, since GMX sometimes has some
problems, like all others.

Re: Digest (02/24/2001 22:42) Special Issue (#2001-859)

2001-02-24 Thread Russ Moore

Hello TBUDL,

I have set up a gmx email account to use as a buffer and found it
works well to retrieve mail. I have no problems using the bat! to get
my email from them, However I cannot get it to send emails. Either
with attachements or without, long or short. I have been to the
options page on gmx and set my security to secure login etc, then done
the same in the account settings in the bat!. Still no joy. The one
thing I can get as a reason is that it cannot resolve my domain. I
can't see why it can't do this, or even why it would want to. I use
zonealarm as a firewall, and have the bat! allowed to connect
obviously so I can't see a problem there. I must admit to being
baffled.
Any help or suggestions would be most helpful.
