Don't apologize, I'm easy to get hooked on this type of things :-)

And I was about to ask WTF does WTF mean, but I guess I just guessed
it :-)

Easy, but that will cost you another beer ;-)

I have called the QT "GMID", and it is only:

,- [ GMID ]
| %OMSGID
| %cursor
`-

The real trick is on how to use it. When I start recording the
PowerPro macro I assume I am already on the root message of the thread
I want to Ignore (I have selected it on the Message list pane), and
the steps I record are as follows:

1.- Hit Ctrl+
This opens a reply to the root message with my standard reply
template that leaves the cursor in the message body.

2.- Hit Ctrl+A
This selects whole message body.

3.- Hit Del
Guess what! ;-)

4.- Type the name of the QT, in my case GMID.

5.- Hit Ctrl+
To execute the QT. And, voila!, the MID appears as the first line
of the message body and the cursor is placed, left justified,
right under it. So...

6.- Hit
To move cursor up.

7.- Hit Shift+
To select the whole line (MID)

8.- Hit Ctrl+C
Copy to clipboard.

9.- Hit Alt+M
To select the Message menu in the editor window.

10.- Hit C
To Cancel and exit the reply message.

And I believe you know how to proceed from here, once you have the MID
in the clipboard. :-)

Yes, I was having this exact same problem... - this is where the trial

When you tab from the 'String' field, for some god-unknown reason, the
next tab stop is the screensaver active drop down on the advanced
tab?! What the hell is with that?!

Anyway, so i initially was tabbing twice, and than {left}ing back...
but than i found I could alt{right} which only sometimes worked... it
turns out, that you can't use {alt}{right} but you must use the alt
character, %{right}

anyway, this is what I use to add the clipboard contents to a new set

%a^v%{right}%{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{enter}%c

which adds a net set, pastes the clipboard, changes location to
kludges and closes the sorting office dialog... hope this gets it to
100% :)

Hmmm, you got me in spending part of a rainy a dark Sunday afternoon

MAU> Yes, please do. Thanks.

Hmm, it turns out that PowerPro is even more intimidating when you
first install it than The Bat is... - OMG it seemed like the confusion
would never end...

But once i got past the initial setup wizard (which was crap IMO) - it
all made sense...

So yes, after initial testing, I got a macro to do what i wanted...

The ignore thread filter is my third in my incoming filter list, it
adds what is currently selected to the a new alternative set,
searching in kludges.

Under the Key/Mouse tab in PowerPro

Blank for all windows: The Bat!, View Folder*

Enter command: *Keys

Enter keys to send: ^c{ctrl}{shift}s

Enter more commands with button:

*Wait active "Sorting Office*"
*Keys
{right}{down}{down}{down}{tab}{right}%a^v{alt}{right}{alt}{right}{left}{left}{left}{left}{alt}{down}{alt}{down}{down}{down}{down}{down}{enter}{alt}c

The amount of {down} in the last *Keys line is in direct relationship
to the number filter it is, in my case, the 3rd... if that makes
sense...

looks bloody confusing i know, but after trial and error this is what
i came up with :)

And it works! - so thanks for the tip...

Account/Properties/Options. He probably has, like I do, both Mar
message as read... options un-selected. If so, messages can only be
marked as read manually. In my case, I want a message to be marked as
read when *I have read it*, or when I decide I have read enough or that I
don't want to read it at all.

> valuable if this does what I imagine it does. Can you mark a thread

Can I ask for another beer? ;-)

Hmmm, I was quite sure I had once written a message explaining my
Ignore filter, but I can't find it neither in my TBUDL folder nor in
the list archives. I have found bits and pieces referring to it in
different threads, but not the message I though I had written. Maybe I
didn't

Anyway, I'll explain. But first I will say that, although once set up
it works quite well, it is not that easy or convenient to use. You
will see why.

As I say it is the first of my Incoming filters.
Main Rule:
 Move from Inbox to Inbox.
 X Sender Yes

Actions:
 Mark message as read
Set message Colour Group to: Ignore (light gray).

Options:
 Continue processing with other filters.

Advanced:
 Nothing

Alternatives:
Here I include a number of sets, each one with a subject (or
partial subject) or a message ID. For example, as I am not
interested in PGP at all, one of the sets is:
PGP Subject Yes
When I include a MID, I usually include the MID of the first
 message in the thread.

The cumbersome or not so easy part is adding a subject or MID to the
alternatives. For a MID I have to:
 - show the RFC-822 headers of the message
 - look for MID
 - copy to clipboard
 - open Sorting Office and perhaps expand Incoming mail filters
 - select Ignore filter and its Alternatives tab
 - click on Add Set button
 - paste clipboard into Strings
 - select Kludges as location
 - and close

See what I mean? That is why most of the times, when I see unread
messages in a thread I am not interested in, I just Shift+Ctrl+M (one
of the very few TB shortcuts I use).

Actually, I did this Ignore filter mainly to prove the concept. I just
wish TB would include a button (and a shortcut for those fond of
shortcuts) to do what I describe above with a single click. In version
2 perhaps? One of these days I will install PowerPro and try to set up
a macro, it's probably possible.

You asked in another branch of this thread for alternate
suggestions. Here's what I do: if a message needs a follow up, I hit
reply and immediately park it. My outbox contains several parked
messages, which are the replies I have yet to write. That way I
never overlook anything.

I don't know if that way of doing it might help you.

as mentioned in the other message, its read, just not marked as such.
Its a bizarre little setup I use I know, but it works for me, so

to stick to... - I just want to mark the message as read

Sorry, but how can you reply to a message not being read?

Otherwise you just set a time limit (or use another of the offered
options) to make a message read ...

Correct.

Over the years, I have become notorious for taking forever to reply,
or to not reply at all. As a result, I have developed a little system,
in which I must manually mark every message as read, after I have read
it, UNLESS, it requires follow up, in which case, it remains unread.
(This isn't as big a deal as it sounds, I'm already using Ctrl-] to
get to the next unread message, so it just requires hitting 'M' before
']')

As a result, any message I go to reply to, is marked as unread -
because I have left it that way to signal a follow-up is required.

I'm just finding that I am going to messages marked as unread, to
discover that I have indeed replied to them, but have left them in the
unread state, hence why i would like to make use of a filter to do it
for me once the reply has been sent.

Just a question, so I understand your requirement right.

You reply to a mail before you read it? In my case, I read messages,
and then reply (or not). So I have never had your requirement. What
situation would trigger such a user behaviour?

Marking messages as Read when replied.

2002-11-29 Thread Daniel Hirning
Hey everyone,

Is there a easy way to automatically mark a message as read once a
reply has been written/sent.

I realise I could set up a filter to do this, but I want it to do it
for every folder... - if i write a reply to a unread message, I want
it to be marked as read, regardless of it's location...

I don't want to have to set up 90 odd filters :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but there isn't a way to make a generic
filter that will run regardless of the folder, is there?

cheers
