I have some feeling that even if TBOT would reincarnate under the
fluffy paw of Google, it could be a longish delivery.

I couldn't know how many members TBOT had exactly, but for sure it was
above one hundred.

I'd just be glad to see the Yahoo group replaced with a Google group. I do
wonder how many members we have in TBOT, and whether they are all in this group

I don't know if the previous owner of the Yahoo TBOT is willing to do
this, but there, already almost two months passed with no news in this
regard, so that if someone could contact him / her and see, would not

I could create it myself but would accept anyone else willing to do

I guess we could design a new incarnation in Googlegroups, as Lore

Hi!

See this...please...due to not using it lately (few years now,
actually), and not logging in at all, I have found yesterday ("all my
troubles seem so...") that I have lost my GMX address (the 'famous'
bluen...@gmx.net). Forever. And ever. And probably for good too. If
not even for eternity (which is indeed a lots of the time, if you
agree). I didn't know for this GMX politics; might be it is something
relatively new; have no a faintest idea (lots of change these days in
the world, I hope for the better anyway).

I've been trying to make new one, at GMX, but found that this too is
not possible anymore - save if you are in Germany, Austria and / or
Swiss.

So...as well, I have to revoke all my GPG keys related to this
address, I guess. And when I make new key(s), I would want an address
which is equally, or nearly so, reliable as this GMX one was. I've
been searching for something like that, but haven't find anything
similar.

Anyone having some advice as for how to solve such situation?[*]

[*] Gmail is good to me for the most of things I do, but I don't think
it became that good that I could use it for GPG signed, or encrypted,
mail. Although I already guess I could do some 'workaround' by sending
GPG-ed content as attachment.

We do not have this small drop-down list in Outlook where I work.

If we leave the from field empty the message is sent from the
individual's default role account. Otherwise we have to type the
address into the from field or select it from the global
addressbook. If you don't have permission to send from the address you
put in the from field, the message either bounces, or doesn't go at
all.

For sending from an address that is not in the global addressbook, the
procedure is quite convoluted. I have to refer to the relevant

No, Outlook does not recall messages. This is simply

 What
Outlook does, it makes the message invisible on the

Outlook on my machine at work often still has the message visible but

This is very funny, because I

Unfortunately they are required for legal reasons.

People often include far mare than they have to. In the UK, all that
is legally required on a business email that's not on a personal one
is:-

Business address and trading name.

If the email is an invoice, it must include the VAT registration
number (if applicable).

Sole traders must include their own name as well as the business
name (if different).

In the case of a partnership, the names of all partners must be
listed (or instructions where to view such a list).

For limited companies, company name, registration number, place of
registration, and registered office address.

 On many tenders

Of course, some companies have a policy of appending three screenfuls
of dross to their emails, and will require anybody contracting to them
to be just as wasteful and inconsiderate. (-;

(ask the reader to consider the environment before printing)

I don't often see those, but for a long time I interpreted that to
mean the *immediate* environment; eg will somebody else get to the
printer first and see confidential information. It wasn't until I saw
one that mentioned un-necessary printing leading to destruction of
trees that the penny dropped.

The problem is that many e-mail clients do not honour the sigdash
 and so it gets repeated.

And this is not helped by the *terrible* practice of top-posting.

I know that these things are disliked in the same way
as reading receipts. Unfortunately again, in business
they are just part of it. You need to know if a message
 goes through.

A lot of people configure reading receipt requests to be automatically
sent or automatically ignored; either way, they are no longer an
annoyance to the recipient. I find reading receipts unreliable; if I
send a message to somebody on Saturday, I often get a receipt on
Saturday or Sunday (when the recipient definitely was not working) and
another on Monday. And then another notification a couple of weeks
later that the message was deleted without being read (which you often
know is a lie because you have received a reply in the meantime).

I do use MSGTAG, but some block it and refuse to accept
 it.

I can understand why people use such things but don't like them
myself.

Well, they have to respond to a reading receipt
then or they have to acknowledge the intention to
receive before they get anything otherwise they claim
they never received anything when it comes time to pay.

Where I used to work, somebody we dealt with used to password-protect
most files they sent us and we had to ring for the password (or email,
and they rang us).

There is a difference between business and personal
 e-mails.

Yes. And I anticipate a trouting soon as we've moved ever-so-slightly
off-topic for TBUDL (-:

[OT] The Bat! users' link exchange

2010-02-21 Thread MFPA
Hi

I seem to remember a few years ago reading about a TB! users' link
exchange, and was just curious to know if it was still around.

I had a poke around and found the links still posted in three places:-
http://cgi.silverstones.com/tble.php
http://www.devtek.org/tbcomm/index.php
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/tble/index.php

I could not find the exchanged links on any of the other linked
sites, and two of the sites linked from there seem to be defunct.

Also, I can't remember what was the reason for displaying the links in
a different order each time the page is loaded. Could anybody
enlighten me?

Both! Security Issues are taken very seriously and patched as soon as

R This can be set to happen in windows explorer or My Computer but it
R will not carry over to other programs such as The Bat

R I have a specific folder I use for my animations and it always

Here using Win XP pro I go to START CONTROL PANEL FOLDER OPTIONS
and click on the VIEW tab. Near the bottom of the folder options is a
one which says Remember each folder's view settings.

Although for me that selection was already ticked, I too had been
having problems with photo folders opening showing DETAILS instead of
thumbnails regardless of which state they were in when I last closed
them. I un-ticked the option and then re-ticked it which caused the
APPLY button to become active. I clicked on APPLY and closed CONTROL
PANEL. I then went to a pictures folder and opened it (it opened in
DETAILS view) and changed the view to THUMBNAILS and closed the
folder. When I re-opened the folder, it was still set to THUMBNAILS. I
changed the VIEW to DETAILS, closed the folder and then re-opened it
to find that it was still set to DETAILS. I changed the VIEW again
back to THUMBNAILS, closed the folder and then re-opened it to find
the view still set to THUMBNAILS.

So it would seem that somewhere along the way that option became
corrupted. It appears that un-ticking and re-ticking the Remember
each folder's view settings has fixed the corruption.

Thanks for your question, it's helped me and might help you.

akaJoe/aka
closingKind regards/closing
closingnameJack Black/closingname
receiptsread delivery/receipts
ccjsm...@yahoo.com/cc
bcctrevor.tur...@company.com.au/bcc

How would such a macro look like? – Thanks in advance.

As Miguel suggested, it relies on regex. So perhaps relatively easy
depends upon your desire to play around with regex!

The basic macro is very similar to the one that Maurice showed in
mid:1974229872.20090304125...@hypercube.demon.nl

The macro I use to extract the information from the memo field is

 [ Macro: Get_Memo_Attribute ]
%Rem='

Usage:
   attribute value=%QInclude(Get_Memo_Attribute,Tag,Default_Value)

This will return the value from a line in the address book memo field
that looks like this:
   tagvalue/tag

Or the Default_Value if no such line exists

'%-
%If:'%SetPattRegExp=(?im)^%_1%RegExpMatch=%ABToMemo'='':'%_2'%-
:'%If:+%SetPattRegExp=(?im)^(%_1/)%RegExpMatch=%ABToMemo+++:++%-
:+%SetPattRegExp=(?im)^(?:%_1)(.*?)(?:/%_1)%RegExpMatch=%ABToMemo+'%-
 [ End Macro ]

I use this in a set of more complex macros that specify what information to
retrieve (by identifying the tag) and, if necessary, identifying a default
value so that I can deal with the case of no value being set.

The main complexity is that I have created macros that cater for a list of
multiple recipients. The macros will parse the list of recipients and
extract the attribute from each recipient's memo field and then take action
depending upon how many recipients have a value in the attribute, how many
different values there are, etc.

For instance, if one of the multiple recipients has a read or delivery
receipt set, it is applied to the message using this macro which recursively
processes each address in the recipient list.

 [ Macro: SetReceipts ]
%REM=^%-

Set read or delivery receipt notification flags if the
recipient's addressbook memo entry contains an attribute with the tag
receipts with the value read or delivery respectively

^%-
%-
%REM=%-
%_SR_Text stores the original list of recipients
%_SR_Temp stores the list of recipients yet to be processed

%If:%_RR_Flag=yes:%ReadConfirm:%NoReadConfirm%-
%If:%_DR_Flag=yes:%RcptConfirm:%NoRcptConfirm%-

I seem to only find it when someone in the list refers to it.

Where do you advise the next beta is available for download.

Wasn't 6 supposed to be the last in this round of testing?

Thank you

Again gmail (if it's considered OT, please reply off-list)

2008-03-26 Thread Luc
 Good morning list,

Some days ago i asked why i can't receive the messages i post here and
some kind soul replied it's a gmail thing. So i looked around on gmail
and indeed: messages sent to mailing lists don't show in the inbox.
Gmail automatically skips the inbox and archives the message. The
message will appear in the inbox if someone responds to it or if there
is an error delivering the message.

If i like to view the message, you need to go to Mail or All Mail.

Does anybody know how i can solve that or is the only solution
(besides using another account) setting up a filter in gmail?

You can cc yourself, but you might be better off getting a different account
and subscribing to the lists through the new account. You can get a free
account from fastmail.fm and then you can test IMAP with us when the next beta
round starts. It is supposed to be concentrating on IMAP for us very, very, very
patient IMAP users. ;)

That happens with Gmail - it realizes you sent the message so it
doesn't return a copy to the inbox. I have found that if I send to a
list via CC or BCC I would often get a copy back. It is flaky though,

I had but I thought I would sit back and see when you two would run out of

the conversation was about the fact that it was a known fact the message
would never hit the inbox, but whether a pop connection would be able to
 collect it anyway.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 8 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

This was correct, but so was this as well but the above was closer to the
meaning of what I had sent.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 8 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Excuse me sir, the person asked why he wasn't getting his email back
when sent to a mailing list from a gmail address

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- 8 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

The result is that gmail will hide any of your posting to a list it you
send it though there SMTP gateway with the credentials of the from address.

It places all your sent mail into your sent box and will filter out the
return message from the list back to you.

The way to get around it is either.

1) Create a Sent filter which copiees the message back in to your inbox (or
where ever you keep the list messages.

or

2) Use a different SMTP service.

He asked about mailing lists and how they interacted. If you send a
message through (say) your normal ISP account TO A MAILING LIST you
will get a copy back. Not so with a Gmail account. (There are caveats
to that statement since there are settings in many list manager
programs to stop you from getting a copy back)

The conversation was about mailing lists. If I send an email to a list
from most accounts my copy will hit the list and I will get a copy
back as I get messages. (Forget Listman's not metoo feature for a
minute). With Gmail, it since you sent it, you don't get it back in

gMail and this list (May be OT)

2008-03-01 Thread David Elliott
Hello Tbudl,

This may be OT, but it is to do with this (and other) list/s.

I am using gMail via POP3 SMPT and I am not see my own e-mail being
returned to this list. I think that it is a property of gMail as I can
see it in sent items in the web interface.

I know that gMail will not show your email in the inbox if you sent

I have looked at the filter in gMail but can not see one to override
this behaviour.

I could set up filters for my out box but I don't really want to
have to do that.

My other option is to use a different SMTP server to sent it out.
Which I might end up to doing.

That's just the way it works and I never found a way around that

 Thought so.

This is using a different SMTP server so we will see.

And this worked.

I have access to more than one SMTP server. So I used another one.

If you send your mail not with the Gmail smtp but with an other

Create a manual filter that assigns the colour group and assign a

Yes, that is certainly the easiest way.

It can also be done through the 'Cumbersomizer', I mean Customiser, but
the procedure is unclear, cumbersome, prone to making errors and will
end up with double entries in the message list pop-up menu.

The best place for feature requests is the wish list, you can add or
support feature requests there yourself. After making a a feature
request, you could post a direct link to this list, just to get it
supported by fellow list members.
How do you add entries to the wish list? Here follows a canned text:

You can insert wishes in the wish list, by logging in to:
https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/main_page.php
Choose 'The Bat! wishes' and add a new item.
First check whether someone has made the same wish, then you can
support that wish.
Wishes that are supported by more users are more likely to be granted
than wishes by one. And the system isn't smart enough to understand
that wishes might be the same.
And add just one wish per entry. Makes everything easier, both for
other users who want to add support and for the developers.

I told Max Masiutin I'd ask on the other lists if there is anyone
currently living in Japan who might be willing to accept shipment of
some books Max is trying to buy (about Yoga). The shipper will only
deliver within Japan so he needs someone to accept delivery and then
reship them to Moldova.

If you can, please contact (Max AT ritlabs.com)

Thanks.

What is this nonsense? Has GMX gone crazy? Does anybody with a GMX
 address experience the same?

What I noticed is:

If you send to a GMX address from a GMX address, but the sending mail
server is not within the GMX network, GMX will refuse the deliver the
message. This is an antispam measure (goes into the same direction as SPF).

Maybe YG doesn't add the propper return-path header or something, I don't
know. The GMX smtp probably can't determine that it is a message from a
listmailer.
