Maybe your messages trigger another filter first, that means that they
won't be tested against other criteria, unless the first filter has
the advanced option 'continue processing with other filters' checked.

GS General questions:
GS 1) Can you filter on strings in the body with location = text?
GS 2) Can you have a move and file save on 1 filter?

Yes on both. I've created a test filter that matches both of your
conditions. I'll include a copy of in my message, select it, copy it
(Ctrl-C), open your sorting-office and paste (Ctrl-V) it in your
outgoing filter collection.
Now you can check what you've got different from a working version. My
filter checks for the string abracadabra in text and moves it to the
folder sent\hocuspocus and appends it at c:\hocuspocus.txt

Good hunting.

RO Good hunting.

I recalled reading somewhere in help about the thread syntax, but
couldn't find it. Your message was a good example. Is there a way to
export the Account | Sorting Office/Filters text? The copy paste was
incredibly easy. Offhand I will say that I still don't see where I
went wrong the first time. I'll give it a try and let you know.
Thanks!

Yes, it can be done. In rather cumbersome way. :-(
Select a filter, press Ctrl-C (not the copy button, that has a
different function), switch to a text editor (Notepad or SmartBat),
paste with Ctrl-V, go back to the sorting office and continue with
the next filter, etc

GS The copy paste was incredibly easy.

Not when you're trying to export lots of filters. ;-)

You can select multiple filters and copy them in one operation, and
paste them all as one (including into The Bat!).

Really? How? I just tried selecting multiple filter rules and can't.

Sorry, I retract that statement. I thought I remembered doing that, but
I must have been thinking of something else. You're right, you can't
select more than 1 at a time. Now that I think about it, I remember
it being a pain.

Once you've pasted them all into a file, if you copy the whole thing,
you can _paste_ them all in one shot.

Outgoing Filter: Move File Save not Working?

2002-04-23 Thread Greg Strong

Hello ,

I can't get an outgoing mail filter to work and I don't know why. I'll
describe what I'm doing because maybe there is a better way, then get
to specifics. I have a contact DB which I dump names, email addresses,
other variables for the day into a CSV file. I import this info into
a separate address book for just this purpose. A Mass mail on all
imported addresses is performed to the Outbox on an account where
delivery is deferred. The outgoing filter is to perform 2 functions,
move email to specific folder on send, and append email into a text
file. I've created a hyperlink field in the DB, so that I can quickly
reference the email in subsequent discussions. This way the contact DB
is self containing of all types of communications made with any
company and individual.

General questions:

1) Can you filter on strings in the body with location = text?
2) Can you have a move and file save on 1 filter?

Detail outgoing mail filter rule tab:
Name: whatever
Source folder: Outbox
Move message to folder: whatever
Filter strings: strings=whatever ; Location=text ; Presence=yes
Rule is: Active

Detail outgoing mail filter actions tab:
Export message to a file: selected (with path:\dest\whatever.txt)
Export format: text
Append to existing file: selected
Export Kludges: selected

The results are no TXT file is saved and the messages end up in the
Sent Mail folder. In summary it isn't working. For the string value
I've tried to key in on only a partial of the subject since there is a
variable there that changes for each group of messages sent out,
otherwise I would have to create a filter for group sent. This did not
work, so I was trying to key in on a string in the body with the
location being text.

I'm new to the TB! so this is a bit of a stretch for me, but it would
a very helpful tool for tracing information in the database. Any
ideals? TIA!
