Mmmh, I remember that I had the same problem. It wasn't TB, my ISP was the
culprit: the message that came back was "No valid email address" (that's what
was written in the log field).

May be it was TB not resolving the group adress into several email adresses
while transferring the msg?!

Have a look at the log field at the bottom of your TB: Did TB try to transfer
the data and your ISP refused to send?

If so, is anybody out there knowing what Jan and I are doing wrong?

Re: AB group

2000-11-03 Thread Januk Aggarwal

Hello Jan,

On Fri, 3 Nov 2000 at 18:00:32 GMT -0500 (which was 3:00 PM
where I live) witnesses say Jan Rifkinson typed:

Well, this is still escaping me. Would you be so
kind as to tell me exactly how you set up a group
how you address an email to that "group".

Here is an excerpt of a message I sent to TBUDL on October 15, 2000

cBegin Excerpt
1. create a group (Edit - Create group)
2. Give it a name and a handle. Deselect "Hide items if not
   explicitly selected.
3. Now in the left hand side of the address book, you'll have a tree
structure. Expand the tree and select the top level.
4. From the right hand side, choose your contacts you want to add to
the group. Drag them to the group on the left hand side.
5. Now when you create a new message, type in the group's handle.
When you Tab out of the To: field, TB will expand the addresses to
   handle list

Although it looks like TB will attempt to send to an invalid address,
the list is substituted before hitting your mail server. If you
include yourself in the group, you'll see what I mean.
c===End Excerpt

Re: AB group

2000-11-02 Thread Östen Häggmark

Hello Jan,

JR I'm afraid I'm still a bit confused about this subject. I was
JR trying to set up a test group, i.e. give a group a name
JR enter some email addresses for people who have the same thing
JR in common. Then create a new msg address it to the list
JR name. I tried this TB! wouldn't send the msg. What am I
JR don't wrong here?

How are you entering the group adress? I think you will have to
use the group handle, not the name, followed by the word list.
If your group's handle is "test" then write:

test list

At the FAQ site there is a part about how to set up a mailing
list, where there is useful information about these things.

Hello Jan,

On Wed, 1 Nov 2000 at 19:23:05 GMT -0500 (which was 4:23 PM
where I live) witnesses say Jan Rifkinson typed:

Is it possible to put a group into the To: whereupon
TB! translates it automatically into all the addresses
 in the group?

Unfortunately, no. It would be nice if there was a macro to auto
expand the group name into the full list of addresses. This is one
instance where you *don't* see exactly what TB is going to send out.
In fact, short of including yourself in the group, TB will never show
you exactly what was sent, or to whom it was sent.
