Welcome to the list anyway. ;-)

A About three times in four (though not in the initial bootup after
A turning on the computer), when I boot up TB!, I get a message that
A says Tasks are active; do you want to exit the program when
A they're finished?

That's weird, messages like that are supposed to pop up when you close
TB while you're checking mail or sending messages and not when you're
starting the program.

Do you use any commandline parameters to start TB.
Are you using a program that automatically feeds keystrokes to other
programs?
What OS are you on?
What firewall and virus scanner do you use?
When's the last time you checked your harddisk with scandisk?
What connection do you use?
Any proxy servers on your system?

A Last night, I got this additional system message (The one with the
A famous red/white X): Access violation at address 006DEF6F in

Don't be bothered by this, unless it's occurring frequently

A This is proving extremely frustrating to me. Can anyone offer
A advice, ideas, or at least a broad surface to whack with a rubber
A hammer?

I can imagine. ;-) I hope this wall is broad enough to whack with any
hammer you like.

BTW You started your question as an answer to another thread. That's
not the best thing to do for the following reason.

The Bat is able to thread messages properly, in order to see what I
mean, just select the folder where you're storing the messages from
this list. Go to the menu: view - view threads by - references. Now
you'll see that all messages are lined up after the message to which
they're first, second (or whatever) level replies to.

You started what's essentially a new thread by replying to another
message. That means it shows up as listed in another thread. Since
people sometimes skip messages in threads they don't consider
interesting (for lack of time). They might skip your message too,
since they're not aware of the newly started thread. So next time
you'd do yourself a favor by sending a new message in stead of a
reply, because you're reaching a larger audience and one of those
might have the answer you've been waiting for.

This is not not meant to criticize you, but only to help you
appreciate the options TB offers and to be able to get more effect out
of your efforts.

This is the second time I've seen Roel make this comment and I have to
endorse it.

This is actually a list rule as outlined in the list charter.

Thanks.

I must object against my name being abbreviated in this way. And I do
so for two reasons.
First: it's kind of sensitive, because my mother entered me as Roel on
a new school (after we moved) without consulting me before. She liked
it, I hated it and my dad didn't care. That was a horrible thing to do
to 14 year old. Two years and a school later things were corrected. As
for now only my classmates from 26 years ago are excused for calling
me Roel.
Second: another listmember calls himself Roel, so it's best not to mix
us up by mutilating my name. g

AM make this comment
It was a rather short comment. I only typed 'thread' followed by
Ctrl+space ;-)
